This is the best example to show your cities. Im sending this to san diegos people. I love the bigger sized homes. Love the cleanliness and chores. Love the kitchen and showers. Inspections are always needed. $600k is not that much for helping homeless in transition.
A small business started this village and that business is Rogue Retreat and im so proud because after this they made a shelter for homeless in the winter in a church but what makes me most proud, my mom thought of both.😀 luv you mom❤❤
Fortunately these successful models are showing other communities what can be done. Approval decisions are made at the local, so each of us should do what we can to spread the word to our local public officials and stakeholders.

I agree and appreciate what these people are doing. Homelessness isn't the problem it's the symptom. The problem is the cost of living as risen so fast since the 70's and wages haven't. After WWII there were many housing developments that were built to support the war effort, workers coming in from the farms to work in factories, homes for GI families and these facilities were made available to low income people after the war. I know I lived in one as a kid in the sixties. The the housing market made the properties that were low income more valuable than the homes. Where I lived is now condos. Where did the homeless go? Out on the street "get a job!" people used to say. That's just not enough anymore. As a society it is our place to fix this problem.
This is what Portland needs. It works well if you have security on the ground 24 hours that helps cut down on drug problems violence against each other etc. I think your model of tiny homes should be the same model everywhere. It's good they are learning things like gardening and hopefully they can eventually learn how to get them working in their communities. Earning a living instead of handouts from the government. Keep up the good work. Teach these people how to function in society. That's what these people need.
I’m so glad they came up with a solutions because I watched a lot of similar situations where the city councils were involved and major cities didn’t like the tiny homes idea for the homeless. It was horrible, tragic, and sad but I hope this idea spreads!!

Ironically enough we (the producers of this video) live in a town where the very well-developed idea that exists for a tiny house village for the homeless just keeps hitting road block after road block, and now is languishing. I wish there is a builder that would develop for people who would want small house , instead of building gigantic homes! And make it affordable like this this tiny homes.
Transition to where. Those people don't look like they are going to be able to pay normal rent prices anytime soon if ever. I don't understand why they can't be a tiny home community where people pay below average rent depending on their income and stay as long as they like. Educated people with great careers who are having a hard time paying their rent are living in tiny homes why can't these people stay where they are.
Many of these people lived on the streets on the margins of society - ignored. Here they have a chance to stop in a safe place and feel valued. You are Assuming that the homeless are uneducated and that’s totally untrue. Circumstances can cause someone to lose their job, home and family. Hope is essential and having an address gives access to a wealth of grants. Great job.
I've been watching the development of these communities...but this one? It's great to see this..however, I have never seen such a lifeless, un-community project. Where are the people who live there? Why aren't they coming together in a Community House, where they can make connections with each other. Sad to see this...so 'lifeless'....

You want to hear something super disgusting? There are 555,000 homeless people in the US. There are 1,800,000 vacant homes!!! I’m sure many of those are trashed but could fairly quickly be repaired. Here’s an idea for the government: Choose the 555,000 vacant homes that are in the best shape and purchase those homes from the banks, hire unemployed construction workers to fix up the homes (so it helps with unemployment), bring in all the homeless people (each family to their own home), give them ONE YEAR of rent/utilities free (utilize solar panel technology to help with utility cost) so they can be helped to get on their feet and get jobs and save up money, then after a year, start charging them rent that is specific to that person and the job they found so that they can actually afford their rent, and have them rent-to-own. Once they’ve paid off what the government put into the house then they will no longer have rent. And they won’t be stuck with a mortgage that has interest. It’s a win win win win. It wouldn’t work for EVERY homeless person but it would work for most!

I've heard that there's no power or heat inside the tiny homes is that true? I've also heard that the residents don't have a key to lock their own door. Is that true also?
What's worse the banks won't even loan money on houses that are only worth 50 or 60,000. They only make those loans to people who are going to flip the houses. Pretty soon no one will buy those either nor will the bank give those loans because they're not Mega houses. This is a complicated problem and it's been coming for over 20 years. I am female I had $40,000 in cash and wanted to buy a $50,000 home and I could not get a loan on the difference. You figure that out. I am not disabled but I was unemployed at the time. However I am a college graduate and I am capable of making $18 an hour. Also every new building projects should be required do you have 10% of its housing available for low income
Seems a bit extravagant to have individual houses & duplexes. Why not build some dormitories. Money goes much further that way. More units. Also - I'd love to see collaborations & mergers between community groups, to reduce redundancy & free up money ... in order to assist max number of desperate people in the community. I've been there. these villages might not be zoned for multi-apartment buildings/dorms. The lots they are on might not be the legal size, etc. The tiny homes in this video are not extravagant, they're pretty much garden sheds.

We need more tiny homes not less. Not everyone has substance problems or mental lllness. Many are victims of gentrification and high rents.

Next is to build affordable housing for those that are transitioning out. Rents in southern Oregon are insane and minimal wage is not enough.

What is that your doing? Offering a room in your home with rules and that's it..isn't the answer.

People with mental illness and chronic illness need privacy. Some are paranoid. The ability to lock their own door is central to healing.
