May seem we don't know you but you guys do share your life each week and so many of us are invested in you both, appreciative your entertaining us and wish so much happiness for you. Love for your marriage plans, heavy hearts for you mom. Hoping life brings you continued closeness with your mom through this. Much love!
"Press the pillow on her face?" moment 🧡❤Making her laugh during such a heavy time is such a special gift and though kids bring us joy, the uniquely sharp-witted humor happiness in her life cuz of you Mike puts unintentional truth behind her funny, "There's my loving children". When you get low, maybe remind yourself the love and laughter she's experienced thanks to a "kid" like you - Hugs, hugs, hugs !!
It was gracious for Mike to do the show. It was nice to hear that moment with the pillow, glad he had that. I remember when my grandma died years ago, my uncle said very similar things that Mike did. I'll bet what he's feeling is more normal than he thinks.
Mike and Greg- your lifelong friendship and ability to have an Irish sensibility of laughter in the face of death is precious to see. Thanks for sharing this part of your lives. Mike, may you be comforted by your mom’s laughter and love while in hospice.
My dad passed away 7 months ago from esophogeal cancer. He fought it valiantly for four years and was sharp and with it up until the very end with his sense of humor intact. He went into hospice right before Thanksgiving. That was a tough Thanksgiving. I miss my dad tremendously. Much love to you and your whole family, Mike. Very hard to relive the hospice details but thanks for sharing Mike.
Still remember when Greg shared his news of his mom. You can't tell but there a lot of us sending you positive thoughts as you hang in there thru this.
Sorry, Mike. My mom battled cancer for two years before it took her. She was very sharp and lucid until the end. It sucks that she knew what was coming, but glad that we had time to reflect together. It was much easier than seeing dementia slowly take humanity from my father. Peace.
Hey Mike, my mom was a Hospice Nurse for 35 years. She told me many wild stories of patients and their families, mostly from trailer parks, but I’m sure y’all will be fine, hang in there Brother ❤ Love the Show
She's a saint in my eyes if she has been doing it that long. A family cannot be more vulnerable at these times and nurses can be a savior of sorts. Bless her. Thanks for writing!
There's not pod like Sunday Papers - sharing viewer logos, jingles, interacting in comments and viewer mail ON TOP OF the funniest brains in the business. Coozy is a small prices. Take care Mike
As a kid, watched my mom on what I didn't realize was the hard daily crossword with cryptically impossible clues and once I tried it, struggling to find an answer I knew, I looked at my mom differently knowing she'd finished them regularly. Many reasons mother's day is the big deal it is -Take care Mike!
I’m very sorry, Mike for what you and your family are going thru. My mother was doing the crossword puzzle up until her last days as well, her doctor was impressed.
Mike , sorry to hear. My mother died in 2015 at 63 and the last 7 years of her life were lived doing dialysis at $36k a month but thankfully she was insured. At the same time I had family in Mexico doing dialysis treatment and they only lived 1-2 years max. I’m eternally grateful at the quality of life this country offers and my mother would always remind me that things could be worse and always appreciate what we have. I always appreciate how Mike and Greg talk about their family especially kids as it somehow recalibrates my gratitude of being a father of three young boys at age 45. The middle kid is a fucking shitshow but I love every second of fatherhood.
Tis a gift to be able to be kind loving and present toward a love one who is passing. My 55 year old baby brother was in the hospital dying from liver failure. He had asked me to be his Durable Power of Attorney. I was sober 10 years and able to make all those hard decisions for him. He passed in my arms as I was singing the Beatles Goodnight song. Embrace the sweetness of your Mother Mike. You are the very proof she was a very good kind loving mother. She made herself a wonderful son.. Thoughts and love you way. gil
Wow Gil. Very sweet of you to write this. I'm sorry for your brother. What a way to care for him. You and he will always have that. Thank you for taking the time to write
Were I religious, I'd say my prayers are with you but can only truly say sad to learn what you're going thru, wishing you much strength and comfort as you persevere to be their for your mom
I'm so sorry Mike. This Show keeps me going on a daily basis in a way you guys will never know. Car crash, spinal injuries, I'll spare you. Thanks for everything. I'm obviously listening from the start again.
Oh man, I'm so sorry about all that. Might our podcast be the bad luck charm? I hope not. Keep listening, but if you get pancreatic cancer, stop immediately. I will completely understand. Hang in there. And thanks for listening/writing
Both parents died in my arms, thirteen years apart. That last breath, man, that last long exhale (my mom's conjoined with a deep sigh), then nothingness for all of eternity. Line of the day from the comics: "Is her ass the tunnel of love?". Love you guys.
my Mother has a rare form of brain cancer and I'm her paralegal, we've been through so many battles together and we're so tight. I'm still helping to run our solo law firm. also had the priest thing happen but looked him up but he was already dead. started crying at the beginning of the episode. may just open an art gallery like Owen after all this turmoil going through.
"They need to put Gavin Newsom in, I'd vote for him" (WHAT???!!!!!!!) "I think he was a big Christian" "Oh, no wonder I didn't like it" I mean...... Someone's been drinking their Idiot juice.
Crazy you two havent seen McCabe and Mrs. Miller- one of the all-time best! All the music done by Leonard Cohen -you both would love it. Sorry to hear about your mom Mike.
Greg's song comments were so generous My playing music on one cell phone while recording lyrics on a second phone (inspired by Gubbons jingle) unfortunately comes thru unlike so many impressive production submissions, but thankfully it's all fun, fun
Hugs Mike. Your uncle's dying molestation revelation to your mom Not only were such things never spoken of (they'd didn't even have to threaten kids into silence when child react with fear of humiliation someone will find out) but into adulthood, you may not care about exposing them but that carries with it destroying sibling fond memories and for what. Mixed mess
My Dad is in a Nursing Home, has all his wits about him. There are many different ethnicities that work there. My Dad is hard of hearing and he yells out to me. “There are a shit load of minorities that work here!! It’s like the fucking United Nation’s”!!! Let’s just say there was a high cringe factor. 😂. Sorry about your Mom Mike. 😢
You guys missed the point of the logo. Look closer - you're not READING papers on the park bench- you're peering thru holes cut from in them at people in the park around you. Paranoid old men in the park, funny!
I'm up to 4 broads on Xhamster calling me Greg after I gave them the ep# to check saying that I had an account to leave comments. After hearing Greg's lie about "not" blowing a guy in the park, (17 times on podcasts) this week I'll switch to dudes. Operation "Down Low Greg" begins on Xhamster Monday! Hope they buy some of the available tickets to upcoming shows.
Mike's shocked reaction when Greg mistakenly said rafting he'd be doing was white water rapids🤣 Guess thats something youd know about someone as a long time friend
Mike, I'm certain your mom knows how lucky she is to have you. There's nothing more special than having a great mom, and nothing more noble and loving than to honor that relationship. Wishing I could give you and your mom a big hug. Love from Nova Scotia. Betting she'd fucking love it here! Say hi to your dad xxx.
I am 1/4 Nova Scotian (is that how you say it?). I went with my grandma to her childhood farm on Cape Breton. It is a great memory of mine. I love Nova Scotia. Thank you for the kind words!
50:43 Greg, a similar thing happened to me in college (1979). Met a nice (hot) Italian girl and asked her on a movie date. Last Tango in Paris. I thought it was an artsy, cool, intellectual flick. Trying to show her how avante garde I was. Pretty sure she thought I was a psycho. I still laugh about it.
May seem we don't know you but you guys do share your life each week and so many of us are invested in you both, appreciative your entertaining us and wish so much happiness for you. Thank you so much! My main reason for loving the podcast is all of Greg's facts. But this may take the cake now.
