Can I ask why you put the tape on the wood before you cut and what is the wood you are using?

The laser burns through the wood and leaves scorching along the cuts if you don't tape it. The wood is Columbia Forrest products from Home Depot. 1/4 inch 2 sided plywood in various wood types.
