If the Soviets refused to negotiate a point, they were intransigent and belligerent; if they appeared willing to make concessions, this was but a skillful ploy to put us off our guard. By opposing arms limitations, they would have demonstrated their aggressive intent; but when in fact they supported most armament treaties, it was because they were mendacious and manipulative. If the churches in the USSR were empty, this demonstrated that religion was suppressed; but if the churches were full, this meant the people were rejecting the regime's atheistic ideology. If the workers went on strike (as happened on infrequent occasions), this was evidence of their alienation from the collectivist system; if they didn't go on strike, this was because they were intimidated and lacked freedom. A scarcity of consumer goods demonstrated the failure of the economic system; an improvement in consumer supplies meant only that the leaders were attempting to placate a restive population and so maintain a firmer hold over them. If communists in the United States played an important role struggling for the rights of workers, the poor, African-Americans, women, and others, this was only their guileful way of gathering support among disfranchised groups and gaining power for themselves. How one gained power by fighting for the rights of powerless groups was never explained. I agree, the ideals of the American Revolution can easily meld with Leftist ones, both being born from the enlightenment. It’s like people using British communist symbols for British left wing songs, we’ve had “leftist radicalism” since the days of Wat Tyler, it takes away from the heritage of trying to fight injustice when people associate songs with relatively recent political parties, if that makes sense
@@arandomoctopus2532 Not a bad variant now.
@@salamaabid6923 an flag with Lady liberty would be dope too
I like it because the USA itself has a (very suppressed) history of leftist revolutions. The Civil War could even be considered one but also Battle of Blair Mountain and the coal wars. It has a history of progressive reforms and pro-labor laws wayyy back in the past. None of that history, as far as I know, is taught.

Before this, Stalin said democratic socialists were tools of the ruling class. So were undemocratic ones, for that matter, if they did not support him. Social democrats were called ‘social fascists’. Communists helped the Nazis destroy the democratic parties on this theory. Then, supposedly, the Nazi would collapse to a big workers revolution.
Oops.
This song came from the new tack in the mid 1930’s -unite the left-. This popular front idea lasted until the Nazi-Soviet pact in July 1939, when Stalin went back to undermining democratic countries for Hitlers benefit, shipping oil to Hitler to bomb London, ordering French communists to sabotage the war effort by strikes, etc.
This relic of the Popular front period will interest the historian.

@American Operator That's just retroactively excommunicating him to let your own side look better, so fuck that.

@@Geoffrey6_ It seems to me that the ideas of socialism are good, but the way they were achieved during the 20th century is very scary. If I am a communist, then it immediately means that I support Stalin, Ceausescu and Kim Il Sung?
@@Geoffrey6_ And yet, in Russia, despite the "bloody" socialism, the country has reached those heights that it cannot reach now, for example: in Soviet times we achieved unprecedented achievements in space, our education was one of the best in the world, but still I agree with you that there were big problems, but if we had a king, then alas, it would be worse ...
@@Geoffrey6_ believe imperialist lies, maybe one day the elites will give you a cookie. I will leave this here for you to read (if you can obviously maybe I'm expecting too high for a bootlicker)
“During the cold war, the anticommunist ideological framework could transform any data about existing communist societies into hostile evidence.
What we are dealing with is a nonfalsifiable orthodoxy, so assiduously marketed by the ruling interests that it affected people across the entire political spectrum.”
