@@ThoseWonderYears Many, that was my family's go to store for pretty much everything. I even worked there for a while in the 1980s. Great store, great quality and great prices. Our location had a restaurant as well as dentist & eyeglass department. I really miss them & Sears too. Excellent job on this & your other videos. Much appreciated & proud to be a subscriber.
Great channel. I remember Montgomery Wards very well. I can understand why they folded since it was one store that was about an hour away and harder to get there in rural America. The other stores popped everywhere and closer to drive to. None the less it was a catalog dream come true. Back to school clothes and housewares were always a bargain at Montgomery Wards.
Thanks for sharing your memories! It's interesting how distance played such a big role, especially in rural areas. But you're right-those catalogs were iconic, and they really did offer great deals on everything from clothes to housewares. Glad the video brought back some good memories!
We even had a Montgomery Ward in Fremont California (now home of Silicon Valley). I was a kid in the 90s and we loved to go to Montgomery Ward for home appliances like Washer and dryer, and also sweaters and school clothes. Amazing place! It got replaced by a Target.
I really enjoy your videos, you talk about things that take me back to my childhood days, and your voice sounds like Sunday evening and apple pie. I didn't live in the 1800s or anything like that but when I use to spend the summer with my grandparents in the 60s,we would order school clothes from wards and sears and it seems like they always come about a week or so before time to head home. Just thinking about it reminds me of how excited we would be to show our parents our new school clothes. Thanks for the memories.
That's such a heartwarming memory! Thank you for sharing it! 😊 Sounds like those summer days with your grandparents were really special. Do you have a favorite piece of school clothing you remember ordering?
The only piece of clothing I remember is a pair of converse, that's because at the time I probably around 11 or 12 and there was an old man that sold water melon and he asked me to work with him a few days. I thought he wanted me to help him sale watermelon but he wanted me to go out to the different fields he had and pick watermelons. That part I'd like to forget but when I got paid I was able to contribute in buying my school gear and paid for the shoes myself. Having a little money gave me a little more say in what I wanted.
It's incredible to think that Montgomery Ward's demise came at the hands of Sears who was looking ahead at the future but then Sears fell to Amazon who was looking ahead at the future.
In the late 60's you could purchase an Italian motorcycle called Riverside from mw. It actually a Benelli. My dad traded a 30/30 rifle for a 260cc Riverside. We took it to the California desert trails and beat everyone with it. 1975 memories 😊
That’s an awesome memory! The Riverside was such a unique bike, and it’s cool to hear how your dad traded a rifle for it. Sounds like you had some great adventures on those desert trails! Thanks for sharing! 😊
You're welcome! It’s awesome to hear how those mini bikes and go-karts left a lasting impression. They really were iconic parts of childhood for many. Thanks for sharing your memories!
The owners of Swiss Colony bought the Montgomery Ward name and copyrights. I received a small Montgomery Ward catalog over a year ago - mostly featuring gadgets, bath and bedroom items. They are pushing the "buy now pay later" concept, and the prices are a little high. But it was really awesome to receive a Montgomery Ward catalog again!
Was Montgomery Wards stuck in the past ? In the 1970's, my mom bought my back to school clothes there : bib overalls and flannel shirts. All the other guys were dressed like that, though, so it was okay.

We had one downtown from 1936-165,. The new location open in the new Belvidre Mall in Waukegan, IL. it later took over the defunct Wieboldt's second floor location at Lakehurst mall. It closed there when the company went bankrupt.
The day I decided to never go back, an employee was so nasty at the checkout that I made that decision. And the old days, in the 1980s, they were so helpful, not resentful that customers were there.
Ah the memories of Western Auto in Santa Fe Springs CA. It was on Orr&day road, near telegraph road and 605 freeway. The bicycles they sold were called Western Flyers! 😊
I think the cover page is disrespectful to women: the picture on the right side of the page, of the woman with the stupid, shocked look on her face. Stop using these stupid, shocked, mouth open pictures of people.
Do you have any special memories of shopping at Montgomery Ward?

The voice, atmosphere, and nostalgia these videos bring are amazing. They're so satisfying to watch. Thanks for sharing them!
Thanks so much for the kind words! I'm really glad you're enjoying the nostalgic vibe. More videos like this are on the way!

All the great performers I have worked with are fuelled by a personal dream.

@@ThoseWonderYears; I remember the cable knit knee-high socks that came in every color. 😥🥲

I didn't know about Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer
Came from Montgomery Wards.
It's incredible to think that Montgomery Ward's demise came at the hands of Sears who was looking ahead at the future but then Sears fell to Amazon who was looking ahead at the future.
As an organizer I start from where the world is, as it is, not as I would like it to be.

The first step to getting the things you want out of life is this: decide what you want.

There is only one way to happiness and that is to cease worrying about things which are beyond the power of our will.

I worked at Wards until they closed! I miss working there!

Adversity has the effect of eliciting talents, which in prosperous circumstances would have lain dormant.
I was wondering if you could do a history video of Western auto supply stores.

All know the way; few actually walk it.
Sears was also the 20th century version of Amazon
Yes, you're right! thanks for sharing
Why was the video cutoff at the end?
Montgomery Ward sent me a bathtub and a cross cut saw.
Montgomery war is still around. It’s online only.
