Very cool. I use the 10 year garden journal from Lee Valley that was recommended by Linda Vater years ago. After 3 years of using it, I like it. The best journal is one that you use daily or regularly. Definitely research and pick one that suits your lifestyle.

Thank you so much for your information Amanda! Yes, you do provide help for us.
I’m so devastated right now as I fell on Saturday and broke both ankles. I’m currently still in the hospital at Baylor McKinney. I’m waiting for pre authorization from insurance to get transferred to Baylor Rehabilitation in Frisco. I’m non weight bearing for at least 6 - 8 weeks but it will probably be more like 10 - 12 weeks! Looks like this years garden is now out of the question and I’m devastated by this because it gives me so much joy and peace. 😭😭😭
I will have to enjoy my flowers and veggies through my RUclipsrs I watch this season.

Thanks so much for showing us your Happy Planner. I've been tweaking mine this year. I'm pretty tech savvy so I have been making changes to my pages using Word. I couldn't find pretty garden-inspired monthly dividers, so I made my own and laminated them as well as the front and back cover. I have vowed to be consistent with my journal/planner this year! I laughed about the handwriting comments because I have experienced the same thing. My day job involves typing (a lot) so I'm better at keyboarding than writing by hand. I have to slow down and be very intentional when I write. I like using ink colors but I like to be able to erase. Flexion pens are the perfect solution. They use erasable ink! I love them!
I love your yellow cover. I haven't seen those covers before (how have I missed them? I stop at the Happy Planner section every time I go to Joanne's, Hobby Lobby or Michaels.
I'm going to check out your sister's site. Thanks again for showing us your planner, and thanks for all your garden help! I watch you every day!

Thank you for sending me this info! I think like you do. My hand writing AND spelling are awful. I write in pencil so I can erase often. I am still organizing my thoughts as to what I want in a planner. Right now I am using a regular binder I had in my house but want something special. I like to know exactly what I am planting, how well or not it worked, etc. I have not done a good job keeping everything in my journal. Sometimes the information is on my phone and needs to be added to the journal. I take pictures of the seed packet and sometimes take pictures of the plants and print them up from a handy phone printer from Cannon. The pictures are very small, 3x3 inch and have adhesive backing so I stick them on the looseleaf paper I am using. I love your channel and have only been watching it for a short time. Again thank you for responding to my question about your journal from a more recent video!!!!!

i found this video so enlightening! My daughter gave me a blank journal to use for my gardening but I was stymied as to how exactly would be the best way to do so. I didn't want to make it a diary. This is such a grand idea. this next part has nothing to do with the video but I was wondering with your degree in sculpture, have you ever thought of making a chicken wire form to use for making a design like a rabbit and then training climbing fig over it for a topiary type ornament. /If you base it in a whiskey barrel planter it would be moveable and the fig vine would be easier to keep in bounds

I love it. I started using a regular lined journal but it's just not working for me. It would be good to make reference notes for photos- like correspond plant details to a photo album on your phone. Or helpful videos you find one youtube. I'm always like "where did I see that video on xyz???" Or a wish list for plants for certain areas in the garden. What fun to do a collab with your sis. Love your videos too! Thanksk for alll you do.

Thanks for sharing your journaling ideas! As I started this post I was going to comment that for someone who seemed resistant to organization and planning your penmanship seems obsessive and precise but then you burst delusion. I agree with your reluctance/resistance to adopting someone else's idea for a garden planner and forcing yourself to conform with someone else's misguided ideas of planning. It seems similar to my late mother's complaint about buying a home built to someone's idea of proper layout (particularly in kitchen plans) she would often complain that one plan or another must have been laid out by a man (who doesn't cook). My plan is to use a scientific notebook (with graph paper) and layout each page according to the information I wish to keep and track. This will also allow more flexibility regarding page orientation. I can also use the pages in the middle of the book for information that does not change; the layout and orientation of the garden/yard, location of fruit trees, fruiting bushes and vines, bee hives, chicken/duck/quail run etc. Even a journal used over several years will utilize information that is written only once and referred to over seasons and years. A ruler or architects/engineers triangle is used for a book mark and assists with layout of yard and raised beds. Hope this helps someone.

    • @shesamadgardener

Love the idea of the scientific notebook … I’ve always been fascinated by precise drawings, diagrams, and labels and find them quite attractive.
