Woman speaks out after spending 4 days in jail alone with Lori Vallow Daybell

- REXBURG - A local woman who spent time with Lori Vallow Daybell in the Madison County Jail is sharing details about the experience for the first time.
The woman has asked EastIdahoNews.com not to use her real name for safety reasons. In this story, we will refer to her as Melissa Cook. Madison County Jail officials confirm Cook was incarcerated on a parole violation at the time Daybell was booked. Cook was later sent to another correctional facility until she was recently released from custody.
Cook visited with EastIdahoNews.com for two hours last week and provided notes she kept while behind bars in Madison County. The notes detail conversations Cook allegedly had with Daybell.
During the time they were both incarcerated, Daybell spoke with her new husband, Chad Daybell, and her son, Colby Ryan. Cook overheard parts of those conversations from her adjacent cell.

Sociopaths are terrifying. I dated one for over 3 years before finding out that she had been lying about who she was since the day I met her. And she was cheating on me, and had me arrested for damaging a door in our apartment that she had literally kicked a hole in herself! I tried to tell the police I didn't do anything, but she wanted me arrested, and apparently they don't need evidence to arrest someone. Worst thing that has ever happened to me in over 30 years... but now?... I just feel lucky I didn't get murdered!!

I escaped his abuse only for him to lie to prosecutors and tell them I kidnapped my kids n that we were all living together before I left which was a Total lie! He ended up getting me arrested for kidnapping while I was in a domestic violence shelter and it took me four attorneys and 70,000 dollars later to prove myself innocent from his nefarious plan. Kids are aged out now of the court system no m want nothing to do with him and I’m writing a book about my story. I wanted to believe in the beginning that that was why Loris kids were missing but it seems like she is the abuser now. She’s right about God has a plan and I hope for her sake she asks for forgiveness for her sins or she will have to pay in the afterlife. God bless those victims!🙏🙏🙏🙏

@@JC-ow8ju I was wondering that also! From what I gather, inmates in certain jails and prisons can have access to tablets or kiosks. Sometimes both. From either the tablet or kiosk they have email and text. Some can even purchase movies. Apparently it's quite expensive so I'm sure it is used in moderation. I know in Tennessee, where I currently reside, there's a kiosk in most county jails. And tablets can be purchased on commissary.

Considering "Melissa" said Lori talked to Colby when Colby said he had *not* talked to his mother, I do not consider anything she said as credible. She comes across to me as someone wanting her 15 minutes of fame. Nothing she would say would ever be used in court. I'm quite certain the only reason Nate reported it was to stress it is a "she said" conversation rather than facts in the case because someone else was going to report it. He is enough of a professional to want it out there that anything from her is strictly "she said" rather than fact.
She also said nothing of any value so why the "don't use my name" thing is a puzzle. Also, jail records are public (if requested) so it would be easy to find out who was there.

As a mom, I'm trying to wrap my head around how a mother could know that she had personally had her own children murdered...but have her major concern be whether anyone would notice her dry skin, and whether her jail commissary makeup made her look attractive enough in court to have her attractiveness be mentioned on TV. And that, on top of all that, how any mother could actually be SO totally self-absorbed that she'd smilingly & excitedly mention it to her lawyer, without ever acknowledging her kids.
I'm trying to wrap my head around it...but I just can't. I can't.
If I even suspected that my kids might be hurt or in trouble, the absolute LAST thing on earth I ever imagine thinking about is, "Oh, I'd better put some makeup on, because I'd hate it if people saw me and didn't think I looked hot!" I'd be running out of the house barefoot and in a danged towel if I wasn't already dressed.
Lori likely was always bad seed, as was her brother, but somewhere along the way, she completely snapped and took him with her. It's heartbreaking for the people that loved her: her children, her former spouses. How terrifying it must have been particularly for Tylee who knew her mother was crazy just as Charles Vallow did. The way Tylee looked the day the police were questioning her mother on the driveway after Charles Vallow's murder? Stone frozen terrified! If the police can't help, where does one turn? Like a trapped prisoner, if she failed her escape or in her attempt to get help, what would happen to her...or the more vulnerable JJ? Those thoughts had to be going through her teenaged head. All she wanted to do was survive by escaping to college. Lori was just never going to let that happen.

But, that look you described? Pure terror, combined with feeling trapped and SO confused....that look of loving her mom but simultaneously just desperately counting down the days until she could escape to university: THAT was the exact same look I so often saw on my dear friend's face when she'd call or show up at my house in the middle of the night, begging to be able to stay overnight. (Usually because her mom was rampaging through their apartment screaming at invisible "demons," "exorcising their fridge of calories" or accusing my poor friend of trying to poison her, and so on. It was tragic to witness, and nobody from the state or schools ever seemed to do anything about it!)
On Tylee's face, I saw those same familiar looks of embarrassment, confusion, shame and fear....but mixed with love and admiration: because, sadly, kids that age will love and look up to their mom no matter what!
Even, tragically, if their moms are so far gone mental healthwise that the very last thing on their minds is their children's welfare.
As a parent, I can't seem to get those poor, innocent, loving kids' faces out of my head. Just knowing that their own mother not only had them murdered, but then threw them away like garbage...apparently just so *she* could merrily go along with her own life, unhampered by the responsibility of motherhood. But what she so callously threw away was more precious than literally ANYTHING she'll ever find again in this life. And, TBH, as a mom, I honestly don't even know if I want her to come to her senses- if she does, then I know she'll be tortured for the rest of her days, knowing that she broke the most precious bond on earth. It would likely be more humane for her to be allowed to continue in her delusional belief that she actually was "saving" her children from "zombies." Although, if you're right, and she IS just a bad seed...then that's almost too horrible to imagine; that would mean she knew all along she was murdering her babies for the latest man in her life, and she just didn't care! Either way, it's nightmarish!

And although intervention is greater than it used to be, our communities have become more spread out and less "small town" aware. When people are moving around it's harder to keep track of a problem situation. Nightmarish, indeed, for those vulnerable. With Idaho not allowing a plea of not guilty by reason of insanity? And since Lori can't go to trial until it's determined that she is sane enough to participate in her own defense? Guessing the victims may fall short in receiving full justice. This could drag out forever. Maybe with these two we are seeing the, Folie à Deux? Daybell may end up the fall guy but Lori was not okay long before she met him. She might not have gotten away with detection as long as she did if she were a less attractive stereotype. Her looks were an advantage she used to manipulate not only men but women.

@@breezy3725 well the way I see it is she may be able to fight being charged with murder by saying she wasn't aware of the murders and didn't commit them, but she can't hide the fact that she knew about it. She didn't know where her kids were?she didn't wonder? Or care? When asked on camera where they were she said that's nice. I say she's an accomplice to murder even if we're not able to get a full murder charge. She stood by chad the whole time, not once asking where her kids were, traveling, getting married, but not once could she show her childrens faces to save her own butt from the law, and not once did she seem like she was worried and wondering were her precious children were. That's guilt. She knew where they were that's why she avoided the law instead of using it to find them. I really doubt she'll get out so easily with all the facts surrounding all of it out there on the table.

Aaren FourEver Don’t bother. His books (well the one I heard anyway, the one about his supposed NDEs) are ridiculously childish. It reads like a 5th grader’s homework assignment about his family. There’s only a tiny bit at the beginning about the NDEs and the rest is about his ancestors. And even _they_ are boring. The only interesting part was where his grandfather or great grandfather was shoveling hay in a thunderstorm and lightening struck the pitchfork. I have a hard time understanding how he thought _anyone_ would want to read about his boring ancestors. Also, the grammar is so bad it is literally painful to read. Seriously, don’t give him the money.

I think she had spent all her money from her previous rich husbands on Luxurious things and on Lawyers. Lorri doesn't have her family coming to court to be with her.
