Do you feel the website is worth it? I’m starting to build my little business ready for when I step back from my career. Yes, I’ve got five years to go (😂) but using this time to design, create and do craft fairs etc. etc. and also bought a VERY nice laptop and use Fresco to design my cards, and a decent printer whilst I’ve got the decent income still coming in. Also had to get PL insurance for a couple of craft fairs I’m off to as well. Certainly don’t think these will pay in the long term so of course have been pondering on a website, and also considering Etsy. One thing that puts me off with Etsy is, what happens it of went nuts? (Or should I say, I should be so lucky..!) as my career can become all consuming and I worry about keeping up with demand. And yes, I’d like to see how your year pans out in relation to costings etc., I think I’ll find it very useful. Keep up the great videos! 🙂 X

That is amazing that you're able to start building your handmade career now. A creative outlet is such a big help from a busy career too.
I struggle to drive traffic to my website, and as you'll see from the upcoming monthly revenue videos, it usually barely breaks even. They are definitely worth it if you can learn enough google SEO and how to run ads. Many of my colleagues make more on them than Etsy.
As for Etsy you can always put your shop on holiday mode if it all gets too much. During the Christmas period of 2020 I was working 75+ hours a week on Chibi Chi as the orders exploded! I definitely had the option to pause my Etsy, but got such a buzz from all the sales that I powered through 😂
My advice for you now is to try and learn everything you can about the logistics of driving traffic and converting sales. Best of luck to you 💜

I am very new to the whole website thing. I should have started it at least last year, but I only started it this March. The downside is having to drive your own traffic and I'm told it can take a year for it to gain enough traction with Google to be 'found' and it can take just as long to get a sale. I opened my website because I was nervous about Etsy having complete control over my shop. I have no autonomy in it at all and have to obey all the rules. At least I feel less nervous now, but I hope it will be worth it in the long run. I am told that using Pinterest will help drive traffic as it's a 'search engine' not a social media site, so I'm trying that at the moment too, and that showcasing my products on RUclips can help. Of course all of this will take time to have an effect and I wish I'd started it all in 2020 because times are seriously tough right now. :/

Congratulations on the website! I completely agree with you on wishing I'd started earlier. Here's the thing though, I started my website in 2020, and it still has less sales than my amazon handmade or ebay shop (both of which are super slow). I'll let you in on a secret, I have absolutely no idea what I'm doing with it 😂 best of luck with yours.
