The problem with Love & Thunder was not (just) the comedy. It was the utter lack of the understanding of story mechanics. How the story ended had no relation to how it started. You can't just spout _"... a story about self-discovery..."_ without explaining what about self needed to be discovered. It started with the drive for "family" via The Guardians. It became about his love for Jane. And it ended with the *concept* of family, but no real correlation to what happened along the way. Bad.
And the "humor" wasn't even funny.

As a fan of Norse Mythology, i am highly hella excited about this. I really want a serious Thor film this time around.
There's a lot of directions they can go with the Thor character right now. So they have no excuse for coming up with compelling story!

they went from thor 2 dark world, taking things too seriously, to thor 3, less seriously & more successful, then thought "oh, you want more of that?" then went overboard in thor 4.

I'm proud of Chris Hemsworth taking accountability for the backlash instead of attacking the fans, but I hope he and Marvel Studios aren't getting the wrong impression. Thor can have humor. He's been around people like Jane and Tony Stark. It makes sense that he's developed a sense of humor.
The problem was that they overly relied on humor to the point that it never felt like the stakes were high or even real. It was hard for me to connect with Thor4 or stay invested in the threat of Gorr because it didn't feel like there was any threat since Thor was making jokes all the time. Even when Gorr stole Stormbreaker, the one thing he needed for his god eradication plan, Thor was on earth fighting a vending machine and arguing with Jane. Not at all tense or even concerned.
That said, I don't think it would tonally consistent if they suddenly made Thor too serious. It would feel try hard. There can be a balance.
Tbh, the biggest crimes were minimizing Jane Foster's battle with cancer, killing her off before she could get her own trilogy and become an Avenger, and wasting Christian Bale.
I dunno if Natalie Portman wanted to stick to just one more film and be done, but I think it was wasted potential killing her off so soon. We could have had an emotionally griping story of Jane's battle with cancer for a Mighty Thor trilogy, ending with a heroic death in one of the Avengers films.
But nah, we just got Jane trying catch phrases all the time.
Hopefully the next films are much better.

This is what a lot of actors don’t do I agree love and thunder was good but if I had to choose I’d say that even in this day in time the first Thor movie was way better and had so much feel to it it wasn’t as codmeic as love and thunder basically so much laughter but not enough action so I hope Thor 5 has that extra energy that I didn’t get to see in love and thunder AGAIN it was a good movie it just wasn’t the greatest

Taika Waititi was a good indie guy who started believing his own hype. Don't give him any more large budget movies

Waititi directed _Thor: Ragnarok,_ which absolutely kicked ass, and was universally praised as a "smash success"... which is why he was given _Thor: Love and Thunder_ to direct. But hey, if you want to rewrite history to fit your personal feelings for the guy, by all means, go right ahead. 🙄

Same, I think it would be a storyline serious enough to redeem the almost "party Thor" like theme of 4. And be a great arch to bring the character into his strongest form.

Taika turned Thor into a comedy. That is not what Thor is. He characteristics are of a god. Serious,dramatic with and Shakespeare tone.

It's kinda funny to hear Chris Hemsworth actually say this because I once saw a "Behind the Scenes" montage from _Thor: Love and Thunder_ that showed Hemsworth on set, SO excited, acting like a kid in a candy store, saying to Taika Waititi... "Ooooh, let's try this! It'll be awesome!" and "Hey, why don't we...?" with his eyes wide open like all of his ideas were the best ideas EVER, and Taika is standing there, watching him, with an awkward smile, slowly nodding his head, while he's actually thinking "Shit... I've created a monster." And you just _know_ that Hemsworth got all those ideas put into the movie, because by this time, Waititi had basically lost all directorial control.
And here, Hemsworth basically admits to it all!
Thor 1 has always been one of the most underrated Marvel movies imo. That tone was great. It had some humor but also had the grand, epic vibe befitting a god

I recently rewatched it and, damn, it WAS a great Marvel movie! Just the right balance of drama and humor. The problem it, Marvel Studios got hooked on trying to replicate James Gunn's tone in GOTG and that just doesn't work for all characters. If you try to force them into that mold, they DO become parodies or worse, laughing stocks.
A line Don Cheadle said in Ocean’s 13:
“You don’t run the same gag twice. You do the next gag.”
Something Taika Waititi should have taken note of for Love and Thunder. I blame him. He became so full of himself haha especially with all his directing gigs with Disney. Such as Mandalorian

I love Taika but, I didn't like his take on Thor, I enjoyed Ragnarok much more than love and thunder, TL&T was way too goofy, and they ruined a really cool villain

The issue with Love and Thunder was this... they tried to stuff way too much into one movie. You have the Jane Thor story arc coupled with the Gorr story arc. If they were just going to go the Jane Thor route, that would have been fine. However... to try and couple that with telling Gorr's story was way too much and the movie suffered severely for it imo. Gorr's story alone could easily be two movies. There was sooo much that took place in the comics during that arc that it was insane. I mean in the comics there were three different Thor's (past, present, and future), future Thor's granddaughters, and Galactus. That was an epic read. The Jane Thor arc... not so much, but it was ok nonetheless (comic version). The Jane Thor arc should have been one movie, and the Gorr arc two movies (minimum). They could have kept the humor for both movies but just have a way darker tone during Gorr's arc. Them trying to stuff both arcs into one was a huge disservice to both.
1:53 Ragnarok arguably the best MCU movie. At least top 3. Part of the reason Thor 4 was so disappointing was how great 3 was.

Thir already saw his brother change for the better they fought together before he died, and he saw loki sacrifice himself, this version doesn't really have a connection to the main timeliness thor, well not after avengers 1

What if they have Loki and Thor roam the universe on their own adventures? That would be kind of cool to for both characters to find comfort with each other on their journey even if one is not from the same universe.
I was watching the silver surfer animated series and in s1 silver helps beta ray escape dream weaver because Thanos was coming and I just thought how ahead of its time the silver surfer series was and how awesome it would be having them 2 on the big screen

Lets not forget sylvie from the loki show is also based on the second version of the enchantress it would be cool to see Sylvie interact with amora in the movie as well.
I recently re-watched the first THOR helmed by Kenneth Branagh and I actually fell in love with the character all over again. To this day, it still has one of THE most faithful film recreations of a Kirby design----The Destroyer. I enjoyed the more serious, almost Shakespearean tone of the film; it had just enough humor to be enjoyable with becoming a parody or a screwball comedy or---whatever THOR LOVE AND THUNDER turned into. I'd would've love to have seen Walt Simonson's Surtur Saga interpreted more seriously, but that ship sailed with RAGNAROK. I'd like to see Thor bring back a proper Asgard like he did in his own book back in the day and I'd LOVE to see a big screen showdown with The Mangog.

I do want to see a Loki Thor reunion now that Loki is a responsible timeline god now. Seeing that dynamic work could be fascinating, especially if Hercules makes an appearance and an attempt on Thor's life. In the comics Thor and Hercules at least respected each other mostly even if they arent the best of buds.
I'm really glad they see where they went wrong with Thor 4 and bring it back to more if Thor 3 to finish it on a good note
Loki needs to come back one of the best marvel characters there is.
I think this is gonna be a very good leadoff story. I’m just hoping that Chris Hemsworth wants to come back in future installments specially when they have the mutant saga and actually almost look like older Odin version.
We'll see, they have several directions they can take the character based on everything they're doing in-universe right now.

Well I don't think I'll keep Thor in the reboot. We've had a gud run with our Asgardians.
If anything, I'd wanna see an elseworlds movie.
This is an _out there_ suggestion for Thor 5 but introduce Sylene as the daughter of Loki who took over Jotunheim after the events of the first Thor film and was slowly building Jotunheim up into a major power (and began slowly taking over the realms after Ragnarok)
While Marvel would certainly not go there, it would be interesting to see what kind of plot they come up with using such a premise.
Hell, make Sif Sylene’s mother. That would give Sif enough depth to make up for her _role_ in Love and Thunder.

If Marvel wants a really unexpected cameo in Secret Wars, they should not only feature the Seth Green version of Howard the Duck but also the version from the 1986 Howard the Duck movie. That version of Howard was played by Ed Gale and voiced by Chip Zien, both of whom are still alive, according to IMDB. I doubt they'd put Gale in a duck costume again as it would probably be easier to do the character with motion capture. But I hope that if they include the first Howard they give Zein a line or two. With the exception of the 1944 Captain America serial, Howard the Duck was the first Theatrical Marvel movie, so including a cameo of that version would be extremely fitting.

I honestly blame it more on the producers than I do on Hemsworth. The producers have the power to run the man at any time and failed to do so if they thought the movie was going in the wrong direction.

I hope they begin to approach these movies the same way they were before End Game. All post End Game movies seemed to be treated as standalone films with almost no overlapping between characters and that more than anything was what made this last phase so uninteresting. It used to feel like every movie evolved a singular overarching plot in a meaningful way, and you always had this feeling like you didn’t know who was going to show up at any time. The standalone movie approach is just so antithetical to the Marvel formula of an interconnected universe of characters with interconnected stories. It’s when they stray away from this they fail.
You nailed it. Linking the movies creates a greater emotional investment for the viewer because you see the consequences of pivotal events affecting multiple characters. Recent Marvel movies have lacked that emotional buy-in because there haven't been any substantial "Shit just got real" moments like the Infinity Saga constantly had.

The thing that really drove me nuts was they made all of that fuss about Natale Portman doing the full superhero exercise routine and then there is no pay off for it. The sink scene would have been the perfect time to show the effect the power of Thor has on someone especially if you have made your star do the work. That is the really big problem with Love and Thunder it is all set up and no delivery.

I still perceive Love and Thunder as Korg telling/narrating a kids bedtime story. What are most kidd afraid of, monsters coming out of the dark/shadows. A little kids stuffed animal becomes imbued with power, the exact reason kids sleep with stuffed animals and what not, to make them feel safe at bed time.

I have hats, pins, shirts, coins, patches, etc from working on films and shows from first iron man, to loki show... alot of folks working are FANS too. If theyd just gave fans what they wanted instead of injecting stuff, just made it fantastically fun again... theyd succeed. construction to makeup, many feel this way. Actors too.
Folks look to comics, games, japanese animation, etc for relief and enjoyment. They dont need beloved IP reimagined to force sexual prefs, change gender race or etc...and so on. thought I may be out of touch, talked to my brother whom we both worked on both new and old evangelions, we worked on new and old hellsings, he worked on fatal fury and ninja scroll films, my nephew worked on many metal gear games, halo, warcraft, asked if I am out of touch. Everyone agreed with whats the problem with marvel, and hollywood in general.
Hopefully they wake up and start making whats wanted, not trying to force feed stuff.

Also, I think it'd be cool for them to bring Angela in to the next Thor film. For those that don't know, she was originally a crucial Spawn character but she was owned by Frank Miller and he sued Todd Mcfarlane for the rights and won then turned around and sold her to Marvel. So she was retconned to be Thor's long lost sister who had been lost in an alternate dimension (Image Universe) for millennia or something. She's an awesome character though.
The problem was gorrr was supposed to be an actual threat and the lore of the necrosword could’ve been used, the story of gods never helping people, the way gorrr lost his people and daughter in the comics is deeper, and since it’s the multiverse it was supposed to 3 versions of Thor.

They should go Frieren on Thor 5. Explore "post-Avengers" Thor; what he feels, loneliness, longing for the old team, looking back on lessons he learned, applying those in his new team, etc. The problems of an immortal. Then end it with him being a god on par or beside Loki.

I'd really like to see Thor's (main) MCU story end on a high note. Love and Thunder was like a big helping of whipped cream - can be fun, but ultimately unsatisfying. Thor can be hilarious at times, but the funny comes from the fact that the character always had a certain amount of gravitas (before L&T). When you have Peter Quill of all people as the straight man to Thor's buffoon, you've really lost it.
If it were up to me, the next movie would be Thor 5: The Search for Loki.

Yeahhh, Rune King Thor beat a group of Beyonders from TOAAs House of Ideas. He literally no diffed omnipotent beings with infinite power. Loki: Agent of Asgard shows TWSAIS are Beyonders from the House of Ideas. Defenders Beyond, Loki actually states he dealt with Beyonders (Same beings TWSAIS that Thor dealt with), in front of the Ivory Kings, actual Beyonders....Rune King Thor is insanely powerful. Chaos War Hercules gets dogwalked lol. RKT is top 10 most powerful Marvel characters ever.
Eternity already said Thor (before he became Allfather) was a threat to her and Infinity in Blood and Thunder run from the 90s.
MCU Thor though, I'd like for him to tap into his elder god heritage for "power ups" instead of going with the Thorforce. Would be a nice touch.
I just wish we had a series dealing with Thor and the other gods. Like houses in a game of thrones sense.
Other powerful families trying to fill the void left behind after Asgard fell and challenge each other to take the role that was held by Odin.
I feel like any direction Thor 5 takes will both be better than 4 and will be awesome and important for the future of the MCU. Also loved the marvel comics Hercules. Had both mini-series and loved the old herc movies of the 60's.
It's sad to see Taika go. I know a lot of people don't like him - especially after Love and Thunder - but I wouldn't have minded seeing more if him. Assuming that he is the type to listen to criticism and improve of course. But, thank you for Ragnarok at least Taika.
