WOLFWALKERS is the animation movie by Tomm Moore.
PLOT: A young apprentice hunter and her father journey to Ireland to help wipe out the last wolf pack. But everything changes when she befriends a free-spirited girl from a mysterious tribe rumored to transform into wolves by night.

Cartoon Saloon was robbed at the Oscars by Soul. Wolfwalkers had smarter writing, better music and gorgeous original animation but lost to another rather ordinary Pixar movie (which was good, but not great). It’s sad that it had to compete against the Disney/Pixar juggernaut and all their money which a small studio like Cartoon Saloon can never hope to match.
Disney-Pixar has become a brand name shoe in a sense.
It's just the name that counts anymore rather than the actual product.
Wolfwalkers deserved the nomination in my honest opinion. I was more hyped over Wolfwalkers than Soul, trailer-wise. But I feel Wolfwalkers had been robbed of their spot by Disney/Pixar and Soul was only nominated just because it's Disney-Pixar. Don't get me wrong, I love Disney/Pixar works...but Soul deserved an honorable mention. It definitely wasn't Pixar's best.
I'd also LOVE to see a charming 2D cartoon win a spot again. 2D animation isn't dead!!

I don't think Wolfwalker is better than Soul, although Wolfwalker animation is something truly unique and fascinating, I prefer Soul for its history and morals
Soul was deep and true it was well soulful I don’t care what you say but soul didn’t rob anything it was truly a good movie
The Oscars have no value, but they make something popular so I just wanted this beautiful film to win so it would have been respected as a masterpiece

As I recall, the Oscars don't even like giving awards to animated movies
as they don't consider them "real cinema."

they refused animated movies to be nominated on those grounds.

Sadly true. Here's hoping the Internet/social media can give underrated gems (like many Cartoon Saloon movies) the attention and love better than the Oscars ever could.
I don't know if many award shows make things popular as they used to, considering that the Internet/social media has been able to help bring better attention to the animation medium.
The bigger issue for more people to see Wolfwalkers is more likely going to be the Apple TV+ paywall. For most people that can't afford streaming, pirating would be the only option (which unfortunately doesn't help support a studio as small as Cartoon Saloon).

i love movies that are so far from being a realism style, or anime style. that just push animation to its fullist and turns out beautiful like this one. true art pleasure. at frist the sketching of the head with Mebhs bothered me but they did it well enough by the end of the movie it just was apart of the style and was amazing
I read a comment that the art styles represent the two different communities. The village people along with Robin at the start have clean lineart to represent order. Mebh and the wolves have messy lineart to represent freedom?
Notice how Padraig becomes an exact parallel of Cromwell in this scene. He hates Cromwell (and not without reason), but by letting that hatred define him, he becomes what he hates.
He could be main villain at “Wolfwalkers 2”, he hate wolves and Robyn, I think this bully worst then Cromwell, if Cromwell do bad things, he do it for villagers and want to protect them because he believe in god and think wolves is demons, Padraig do bad things because he like violence and like morally crush other children at Kilkenny! I think then he becomes adult he can to become next “Main wolf killer” in Kilkenny after Cromwell! Why not? Padraig and other street children are so mean...🤮
Robyn also became a parallel of her father. He would always tell her: "This is for your own good", *caging* her inside his care and protection that she didn't really need. And here, Robyn tells Mebh the exact same words while *putting her in a cage.*

@@mistynix2118 If you take into account some details, then everything is not so clearly bad with those children there. With Padraig, by the way, too. The children simply mirrored what the adults felt, namely, hatred of wolves and dislike of the English. Few noticed, but those children gradually befriended Seán Óg, the one who was healed by Moll and Mebh at the beginning of the film. In the cartoon, he has a good nature, loves children (this is clearly visible from the way he communicated with Robin), and could probably tell children many interesting stories (including about wolfwalkers). If you look at the scene where Padraig jumped back in horror to the place where Seán Óg was serving his sentence at the moment when Moll rushed at him in the form of a wolf, on whose back Robin sat, then you can see that the children surrounded that Seán Óg from all sides. Moreover, Seán Óg himself definitely could not help but see Mebh, at this moment 2:28, he also heard how Robin begged Cromwell to release the wolfwalker to solve the problem with wolves and maybe then realized that she herself had become a wolfwalker. That is, he told the children exactly about Meb and Maul and about Robin. Further, in that scene when the townspeople went outside the city and were struck by an unusual supernatural phenomenon, all those children were also with Seán Óg and Padraig as well.
And it's also interesting how Padraig reacted when Robin, Meb and their parents appeared in the city together with that wagon drawn by Cromwell's horse. And it definitely was, although it did not make it into the script, judging by the things that were filled inside the van. I also wonder if he found out that the person who put his father in prison was killed by Robin's father, whom he despised before.

The way the animation plays to everything from the people, the places, to their emotions is legendary and every movie can learn from it.
This is one of the saddest and most intense moments in Wolfwalkers.

I kinda like how the animation gets slightly more rough at times it's a nice touch
The change in stroke styles here clearly shows Robin's level of inner freedom, and some interesting effects show the state of emotional outbursts and the sense of hopelessness. Regarding emotional outbursts, I want to single out the horror of Mebh's mother when they tried to put a collar on her daughter (then the background of the frame seemed to be splashed with blood), as well as the horror of Robin when her arrow accidentally wounded Merlin. This is a brilliant cartoon in which absolutely everything is thought out even at this level and there is almost nothing accidental.

-Robyn cages Mebh to keep her safe, but hurts knowing Moll will die, Mebh ends up alone, and she/Bill live a "caged" life.
-Mebh charges in to save Moll, a move that could end up killing them both, all while feeling her closest friend lied to her.
-Moll chooses to keep everyone safe at the cost of her own life, despite knowing how hard life will be for them.
-Bill, COMPLETELY unaware of the true story happening, chooses to execute Moll in order to provide a "stable" life for him/Robyn.
What an absolute gut-punch of a scene.

To think this is where what Luca did to Alberto is based on. While Robyn did it to protect Mebh as her mother would have wanted, Luca did it for self-preservation. Out of them, his motive is the selfish one.

The movie isn't dubbed, these are the original voice actors for the movie.
I just wanted to I could care less about what the Oscar thinks great media is. The only thing I ask of them is that they treat animation with the same kind of respect as they would any other kind of media made in a different meeting. And also watch the nominated media before you cast judgments on what do you think it's good otherwise you'll just come off as lazy.
