a skiff is a type of dinghy, but skiff hulls are more hydro dynamic and the skiff’s design prioritizes speed over stability
What’s the difference between a skiff and a dinghy?
hello, skiffs are faster, less stable and is so important during the race maintain a good speed and also the helmsman has the hike, in the dinghy just the bowman has the trapeze and is more important the tactics because you can do more tacks, if you do a lot of tacks in a skiff, you lose a lot
I think it’s to do with the shape of the hull, a skiff is a bit funkier
Skiffs are generally flatter on the bottom, meaning they are faster, rider higher in the water, steer differently, require more action to stay stable, and can plane (Meaning the bow comes up out of the water) for extra speed.
Shocking TV coverage of the sailing events here in the UK, what’s it like in other countries?
0 in the US
@@kastaway2US disappointing sailing coverage!
I agree. I am having to really fish for anything. You would think being an island the UK would be interested in sailing! 😮
A skiff is a boat. A dinghy is my blonde wife. Who i love dearly. This is what we do. Lol
Is it me or is the women's skiff gimped just so the men can go faster? Seems like they could run a "small" and "big" skiff event without gender limitations and just see who wins
Depends on weight. They're counter balancing the sail with their body weight, so if it really is a bigger mast and sail it's going to pull harder and without enough mass to counter balance they might flip. Less about pure strength and finesse.
Where are the trans and non binary athletes? Maybe next olympics?
The problem with a small and big skiff competition is that men would win both.
Per the video, it has to do with weight of the sailors. I use a smaller sail than men do windsurfing cause I’m lighter. Same technique.
@@lisadaugustine-np8bq some of yer trans genders would likely pack a few extra kilos for future womens events, thus evening things up with the mens. Add a woman's inherent savvy and multi tasking superiority, i reckon yiz would be reaping them gold medals. ty
Its a crazy dinghy, nothing else...
