the link to paypal is broken I think you posted the link after you logged in because its telling me its expired edit: - his paypal is also on his website and that paypal link works in case anyone wants to donate
Oh man!!! His email for PayPal is jon@calyptura.com. I’m sorry that the link keeps expiring, yikes! I will update the description to just have his email address in it. Also, a donate button can be found on his website!! 😎Thanks everyone for helping me get this straight!
Look at you man! What a great way to spend your forced down time. Not only are you educating yourself and hiking very smart, you're helping others hikers. Awesome job sir.
Excellent interview, Corey. You asked all the right questions. Robert (the Heavy Hiker) says hi. I'm praying for your continued health, safety, and enthusiasm. You are inspiring a lot of people! Cheers! - Larry: PCT Trail Angel and Section Hiker from San Diego.
Best video yet SCH! Keep up the great work. We are all pulling for you. Your willingness to stick it out is inspiring. Remember the words of Calvin Coolidge, “Nothing in this world can take the place of persistence. Talent will not: nothing is more common than unsuccessful men with talent. Genius will not; unrewarded genius is almost a proverb. Education will not: the world is full of educated derelicts. Persistence and determination alone are omnipotent. The slogan “Press On” has solved and will always solve the problems of the human race.”
Thank you for posting this update. I know there are a lot of hikers out there that will be coming up to this section in the coming wks & not all of them are aware of the conditions. I’ve been carrying an inreach for yrs as well, especially after starting to backpack solo. I personally saw it used for a rescue last year on the Pct & had a friend that had to use one last yr in the Sierras. It’s well worth the money.
Damn so many comments and it's been 28 minutes well I guess that was better than me being 665. Everybody see the same thing , the weight loss in your face , the jolliness is still their and the skillful artistry of an interviewer and most of all helping other hikers. keep up the great work Corey!!!
Looking good! Can see changes in your face already. You have my utmost respect for striking out on the PCT. Enjoy following you on this journey. Be smart and stay safe out there!
Good Report Second Chance! I hike that area since I live below in the valley. Jon's surveys are a great asset-glad you got him and Nomad Ventures some exposure. You looking good man! I can see the physical difference in you. Keep it up, and all the best. Stay safe buddy.
Thank you so much for the information 2nd chance you are doing awesome and an inspiration to all I have followed you from the beginning And you are like no other hiker God be with you you're the best
Mount San Jacinto - was my backyard before moving to Texas. The town of Idyllwild would be an awesome spot to wait for better weather - continue kicking ass!!!
Great video and interview. I'm glad you are making sure hikers are as informed as thay can be before hiking on the trail ! I have been involved with search and rescue on or near the PCT for many years and it warms my heart when I see people getting out great information to help others stay safe ! Happy Hiking !
Hi Second Chance. With your 200 lbs. weight loss goal while hiking the P.C.T., I hope you are not forced to remain stagnant on the trail. Just my opinion, if you have the resources, get yourself to a safe section of the trail a.s.a.p. and continue sweating your ass off everday. We are rooting for you so much in Detroit and looking forward to hearing from the Luv Dr. :-)
Back in 2005, my thru-hiker class lost Seabreeze as he lost the trail going into Idyllwild, in late April. A bunch of years later some lost folks found his body and backpack. I was in waist deep snow in late May but made it through. It gets real up there.
Hello my outdoors friend. Thank you for communicating with Jon. Many many hikers on the PCT will see your video. This timely information will be very beneficial to those who will soon be doing the NOBO PCT. Be safe out there and watch out for the Chip and Dale chipmunk gang. 🤗
Oh wow! You do look thinner in your face. Looking good my friend! What a great interview. This really helps out your classmate on the PCT. I live in the Reno area and this year we have had sone crazy weather. Be safe☺️🌻
I love that you did this. This video is full of important information. San Jacinto was hard enough last year without all the snow. Getting nervous about this year. Also, Jesus, Bleeder and I made a cameo in your video!! We’re the hiker trash featured with Mayor Max in the Idyllwild newspaper article you highlight in the video. Bleeder and I can’t wait to meet you on trail this year. 😊
So glad you are hiking smart! Thanks for the update. Do you think a flip flop is in your future? Maybe some local lower elevation trails to keep your trail legs in shape. Keep your great videos and infectious smiles coming for us vicarious hikers🏔🏕🏔
Thank you so much for all the info on Mount San Jacinto. My husband and I are planning on hiking it for the 6 pack of Peaks challenge. Now we will be well informed on what to expect because you posted this information.
Been having a few busy/rough days... then I saw your video come up in my feed and I smiled. Keep up the good work! Awesome you put the time into this PSA. :)
You and Jon are a couple of saints! Looking out for everybody. It was great you posted this, you may have saved someone's life! I like those signs in the deep snow, that's what we have in NH in the higher elevations right now. You look great; stay safe and keep up the good work and above all, STAY SAFE!
Thank you Second chance hiker. We met Jon a few weeks ago on the trail to Mt. San Jacinto from the Saddle Junction right after a snow storm. He had backpacked in snow up there the previous two days and was on his way down while we were on our way up. We followed his snowshoe track to find the trail. Without his track, I would be spending much time looking at my Alltrails app to find the trail.
You are wise to wait it out and seek the wisdom of the gurus! Thanks for sharing for those that are just getting their start in Campo -- good for them to have the info they need for the weeks to come!
Thank you for sharing. I never travel into the backcountry without my InReach. Yes, it cost money but I always have a way to communicate. Not only are you hiking your own hike. You are providing life saving, important public service information that can be used by others. Great work and nice interview. Great questions. That snow isn't going away soon. As you move north you will need to take care and watch all and any river crossing as the snow starts to melt. If you are going to hike in the snow have someone show you the proper use of your ice axe and practice a few falls. You take care, be safe, and keep moving north.
That was a fantastic interview. I've been watching through hikers for a while and never seen this before and it is all good info to have for when it is my turn. I hope Jon gets a great response because he sure deserves it.
good info video buddy. what a top bloke jon is! You are looking well mate can see a diffrence in your face already well done. enjoying following you on your journy
Hey SC, that was a really cool video. Jon was very impressive-- maybe not as impressive as you, but close! Glad you are playing it smart and safe. You sure picked a wild winter here in So CA. Absolutely loving your videos. Thank you!
Dude you're killing it! Great interview and info! The best advice was to know how to use your microspikes, crampons and ice ax. Would you try to fly a plane without instructions? Self arresting after falling on your back and sliding head first requires training and PRACTICE. The funny thing is if a warm storm comes through alot can melt. But then if it chills at night, ice becomes a major concern. Go figure. Flipping ahead to Cabazon north, then heading back to flop later is a consideration to continue adding miles and keeping the mojo flowing. Keep it up!
Are you planning to go all the way to Canada? Good that you are being safe. I used to deliver the mail between Banning and Idyllwild in the early 80s. Those were the days.
Yeah! Youve got your beanie!! Great resource, thanks for sharing this Corey!! The Sierras have gotten a ton of snow dumped on them also. Be safe out there.
I could see an experienced hiker like him using his inreach to assist someone else even. If he came across another hiker who needed help quickly, having that resource would be invaluable
How do I say this. Seems to me your becoming a solid backpacker. This was a great interview. You ask smart important questions. Please stay safe and hike your own hike. But most enjoy yourself. The lessons your learning and sharing will no doubt help in reaching the goal. My prayers includes you Cary
Well done Cory! Yes, Jon is the man! He will stay overnight at the peak just to get the weather change conditions to all you hikers. Hopefully, some of you will see him on the trails as you hike through! sanjacjon.com
Sounds like its going to be a tough year... It might be wise to skip ahead and come back and do the higher portions later... Im in WA and we still have snow at 2000'. Safe travels to you!
Nice reporting 😀 Yes, this snow is nothing to do around with unless someone has years of experience in snow, avalanche, and off-trail travel. Thanks for sharing this with other hikers who may not yet understand what they're heading into.
WooHooo look at all that snow! Plz be safe! I’m so glad you’re putting this out there for all the other PCT hikers, I’ve seen a few hikers bail and head back until late March-April. Please stay safe my friend and keep on keeping on but safely (hit the pause button if you have to). Glad to see your update, been wondering how you were.
Second Chance Hiker better safe than sorry brother, I don’t think you should risk going up there atm, I know what this means to you and all of us but plz pause for now! So many tragic stories, I don’t want you to be one. If you can hunker down for bit I think it’s the safer call but ultimately it’s your call, I’d rather see ya take a few zeros (ain’t no shame in that!) 👊 Sending you love and positivity!

Hey second, you’re a really great interviewer! Man I can’t wait to see you on Ellen.
Oh my goodness that will be so fun, I can already picture Ellen losing it laughing hard at something he says.
Wow, your confidence has grown 100% from your first video, you are looking so much healthier and happier. Great interviewing. Stay safe SCH.
Thank you Jon for your commitment to the mountain and hiker safety. And thank you Corey for using your platform to educate and protect hikers.
Much love to you both, Mr. King, you are saving lives! Trail magic at its best. Thank you for spotlighting this fine man!

Hitch around San Jacinto and continue your hike. Be safe

I must chime in with everyone else, you're looking noticably thinner, healthier, and more energetic! Keep up the momentum, but do it safely.
Good Report Second Chance! I hike that area since I live below in the valley. Jon's surveys are a great asset-glad you got him and Nomad Ventures some exposure. You looking good man! I can see the physical difference in you. Keep it up, and all the best. Stay safe buddy.
