Id 💯 agree, recently got a brand new 24 250 and the lack of power at the bottom is actually dangerous if you get caught on tight bends with deep mud to contend with, the bike will actually bog and stall half way round the corner. AJ - Based on the review, I would say the set up this bike has caused issues. Suspension for certain is an adjustment issue. Also as for the power, the new air box has taken some bottom end snap out of the bike, but for a stock engine bike, you need to test one with a stock header, otherwise you will need to try a bike that has a full exhaust with a matching ECU. The new changes for engine durability have made this new 24 more sensitive to these changes. Also stock gearing is a bit tall.
Today, 3/2/2024 i rode my yamaha yz250f 2024 brand new with 2 hotes total runtime (after break in and oil change) It felt amazing, chasis, corners are super wow! Bottom power is insane, thrid gear and fourth gear are very similar, i could enter a conrer with fourth gear or third gear almost same feeling of power amazing!
Tomorrow im going to buy new yz250f 2022, but i have heard that yamaha has some transmission issue, like it just blow up in 50 hrs for some riders, even C class. Can someone confirm this?
You might be hearing of the early 2000's YZ250 2 strokes. I knew several riders who had transmission issues with their bikes. I know several riders currently on 2022 YZ250fs and none have had issues with the transmissions.
I have the 2024 yz250f and I feel the same way about the suspension. But it has a really aggressive bottom end to mid. A tad flat on top. That’s as is out of the crate
I am currently messing with suspension settings and mapping to see how good it can be stock. But better suspension is on the way and pipe with mapping.
Did Jet Lawrence wake us up to proper posture technique or have others' before him ridden with the same techniques? I just came back from the Detroit SX and saw a bunch of guys riding with his style and the same techniques taught by Moto Academy.

I have a motocross shop and because of that I ride a lot of different bikes . Few weeks ago I had an new RMZ 250 . Great bike , great chassis. Engine pulls so good from the bottom, you could ride every corner in thirt gear from standing still almost . Really good bike . Only suspension not good . But awesome bike . Now I have a new yz 250f 2024 and I find it little disappointing, and I’m a die hard Yamaha fanatic . I think the RMZ is better then the new yzf . Rmz have a real clean mapping , where the yz250f is indeed sluggish of the bottom. Grts from the Netherlands ( tomotomx)
I agree with your assessment 100%. I have been riding the Yamaha 250f since 2017. I went to a recent ride day and rode the 2024 and was very disappointed. It ran dirty off the bottom and didn't really feel any faster in the mid or top to me. The suspension felt stiff and non compliant. I also rode 2024 250fx and 2023 250f back to back the same day and both were much better all around.
Disappointing. One of my bikes is a 2018 250f and it's perfect for a Yamaha. I have a 2020 450 and it rides the same as my 2018. Have to be careful with upgrades sometimes but not usually in a Yamaha.
Bought a 01 when they first came out. Hated it because of starting problems. Put in storage and bought an 03 which was a great bike. Now I own a 23 year old almost new YZ 250F.🤣
Probably 93 octane pump and it’s most likely a few months old knowing most of the guys I see at the track lol. I don’t ever ride without fresh fuel. I can feel the bikes power go flat without it.
Something definitely has to be wrong with the bike. I've never heard anyone talk bad about the new YZ 4 Stokes they are amazing. Atleast better than Kawa honda Suzuki and KTM I'd say 🔥 but thats my opinion
That's exactly how you should review. A new bike is basically straight out of the store or straight out of the box. You don't want somebody making any adjustments to it. Because then it doesn't give you an honest opinion ... The average Ryder isn't gonna be making any changes to the bike most likely. Besides maybe a new pipe
My daughter rode the 23 and 24. She had the exact same conclusions. In fact she was hoping to get the 24 yam but was so disappointed in it , as you said, she landed up on the 24 kaw 250f.
Just got a 24 for my son. He was on a 21 yz250f before, and I have a 22 FX. The 24 is a pig at low rpm, and I'm pretty disappointed. Now we have to spend another 2 grand for an airbox and ecu to fix the ussue! 😡

I have been seeing a lot of issues with the 450F. Not a lot of information on the 250F. I have the 22' 250f, and I absolutely love it, BUT they do have a major issue. Timing chains wear very quickly and spontaneously break without warning. Most guys are doing them @10-15 hours max. Race teams every 3 hours. Hopefully that issue is rectified, but I haven't been able to find any information out about it. The 450's I know multiple pro riders having the piston grenade (most common issue I've seen), one of my buddies is on his 3rd motor! Keeps the bike and puts 45 hours on it and they give him a new one. Another failure was one crank failure on the lower rod bearing. I am a huge YZ fan, but I think I'll wait and see how the Triumph pans out. The new bikes certainly aren't what they used to be.
I hate to say it. Very few people know how to set a bike up. Have someone get you squared away on a bike that’s properly set up. Put the ergos right for you, forks probably leaked onto the front brake caliper. There’s a bunch of things they are just way off in what your saying about that bike. Doesn’t sound like it’s near stock settings. It honestly sounds like it’s in left field. That bike needs good fuel and you can’t fairly compare it to a bike with a high comp piston. Unfair comparison. You need to get one that’s unmolested. Either bone stock. Even clickers. Or have someone that knows how to set a bike up set it up before you ride it.
You might want to look into who this… just an idea. Hint: he knows what he’s doing. Also, he wanted to test it as it came off the factory floor. The only thing touched was the exhaust. If it’s having the issues he’s mentioning, basic setup wouldn’t address any of it, aside from further modifications. Frankly, I think it just needs to break in a little, but I could be wrong.
@@jackjohnson291 hint: know what your talking about before speaking. Just because you can ride the hell out a bike doesn’t mean you can set one up. That’s common knowledge. People click shit on the suspension all the time when they sit there. 🤦♂️🤦♂️🤦♂️. There’s a reason you frame a brand new bike before you ride it. The guy who owns the bike has probably messed with the clickers for himself for that matter. He messed with the tune…. Why wouldn’t he mess with other stuff too?
Kind of a dumb review for the simple fact who tests or buys a bike and gives a review without adjusting the suspension? 🙄. Also if you tested the bike in its stock map it’s the same as the 23. Put that bike in hard hitting and it will rip. Also other pros have done videos that are fast as hell said this bike is amazing. One had a friend that was a loyal Honda guy but he said after riding that yz he’s buying a blue one. Also you should know from racing bikes when they are new they have a break in period. You're talking about 1978 bud. Things have changed a LOT since then. Yes, the Hondas were the dominant bike back then, but not anymore. (They are still very good, I have ridden some CR125s and I like them.) I had one of the 1978 YZ125s myself (It was the bike that got me started in mx. I never raced it, it was used to learn on as I got it real cheap. My first race bike was a 1990 YZ125.) I agree it was pretty bad,, I never trusted it enough to race on. As for the"modern" era, the early 2000 YZ250s had transmission issues, the 1991 YZ125 first production run had a serious engine case stuff up...but other than that, I haven't had too many riders complain about the bike. ( I work, race and announce at tracks so I see a lot of them.)

Agree even the 450 runs best stock header. Slip on only. This bike was clearly in left field with setup.
Today, 3/2/2024 i rode my yamaha yz250f 2024 brand new with 2 hotes total runtime (after break in and oil change)
It felt amazing, chasis, corners are super wow!
Bottom power is insane, thrid gear and fourth gear are very similar, i could enter a conrer with fourth gear or third gear almost same feeling of power amazing!
Interesting! Have you ridden a older generation one?
Awesome thank you for sharing this information with me 🎉❤😊
Our pleasure!
Tomorrow im going to buy new yz250f 2022, but i have heard that yamaha has some transmission issue, like it just blow up in 50 hrs for some riders, even C class. Can someone confirm this?
i think the 2019s and below there timing chains stretch i have a 2023 yz250f never had any problems
You might be hearing of the early 2000's YZ250 2 strokes. I knew several riders who had transmission issues with their bikes. I know several riders currently on 2022 YZ250fs and none have had issues with the transmissions.
@@mxslick50 thanks, but i heard this about modern 22 23 yz250f
timign chains are really bad...
Bullshit , I have a 22 and it’s by far the best bike u will ever ride !
Did you take the wash-cover out of the air filter box? Lol.
I knew we forgot something!
Did Jet Lawrence wake us up to proper posture technique or have others' before him ridden with the same techniques? I just came back from the Detroit SX and saw a bunch of guys riding with his style and the same techniques taught by Moto Academy.
Yes! There has always been exemplary riders. Jett however was made in a lab, and his winning with that form puts it front and centre!
HEART AJ - Keep up the good work, we are all getting better because of it!

KTM Sell the best bikes on the market
All you have to do is throw a map in it that’s what the tuner app is for. Change some clickers for suspension. Yamaha front brakes are always spongy
Hi love your vids 🤙
This is sad news, The awesome low-end power is what converted me into being a Yamaha fan. Hopefully, they get it right in 2025.
Don't worry it's just mapping. The bike is a 🏆winner
Love your reviews~~~~
Does it have a gray wire?
😂😂😂😂😂😂 yea cut that shit son
AJ are you racing SX this season???
He is not
@@jdub264 figured. thanks.
wondered what was up when he switched to the CRF450. then the baby came along. so i'm not surprised. except for that great speech after last years SX season when he said the plan was to get better at racing over the next 5 years. hmm.
well bummer because seeing where Albert would place each race, was just as fun for me as seeing who was top 3 in each main.
Plan as of now is to take this year off then get to that 5 year plan! 😁😁
Is it me or does it seem shorter (length wise)?
Video Idea - Track reviews... Since you are literally visiting so many tracks.
I wonder also how you would likenthe yz250fx (my bike). The suspension is softer.
Would love to try!
Well when u turn the motor into a 15 hr time bomb to get your 43hp and the word starts getting around u back it down a notch so it’s not leaving parts and oil on the track.
Awesome! Shoot us an email at jackson@themotoacademy.com we would love to have you included in our Dealership program!
See you at desert 100 this year?
What gas is he running in it? My 250f hated pump gas, ran so much better once I switched!
Anyone running anything but ethanol free is just asking for trouble.
Probably 93 octane pump and it’s most likely a few months old knowing most of the guys I see at the track lol. I don’t ever ride without fresh fuel. I can feel the bikes power go flat without it.
I feel like the track might have contributed I mean you are in much deeper sand kind of terrain than your typical track.
It doesn’t seem like it even revs out right in the video. Almost like it’s kinda trying to lock up. I know it’s new and tight but u can hear it
AJ you need to talk to your buddy, Alex Ray, about the ‘24 yz250f
I feel like the rest of the reviews on this bike where good
How about doing a honest review of a 2023 Honda CR500AF. Of a Tomaracing T500.
buy it and supply it!
@@HPRaceDevelopment I have my CR500AF.
My 250x is all good. Love the 2 stroke. Oh yeah.
you look like a good B rider in the end clips on the bike IMO
Something definitely has to be wrong with the bike. I've never heard anyone talk bad about the new YZ 4 Stokes they are amazing. Atleast better than Kawa honda Suzuki and KTM I'd say 🔥 but thats my opinion
I’ve heard horrible things about yz250f in general, not just this one. I’ve never actually rode one though, been a 2 smoker most my life.
Definitely worth trying for yourself. Every bike has their strengths
Yes, you need to change mapping, and ride like 125. Then this bike is fast. Much faster than kx and crf.
AJ Cantcuzhesazero once again proves why he does what he does(those who cant do teach)! The Blue crew is coming for you!!!

@@GuerraRacing82 😂🤣😅😂🤣
Poor bastard butt hurt your Yamaha got a bad review
Better than any E bike you've been riding
My daughter rode the 23 and 24. She had the exact same conclusions. In fact she was hoping to get the 24 yam but was so disappointed in it , as you said, she landed up on the 24 kaw 250f.
Yeah we have got a lot of messages juist like that!
Just got a 24 for my son. He was on a 21 yz250f before, and I have a 22 FX.
The 24 is a pig at low rpm, and I'm pretty disappointed. Now we have to spend another 2 grand for an airbox and ecu to fix the ussue! 😡
Man, you just need 450-2024. It is really best yamaha of all times
He loves that one!
It says 250 in the title but that's the 450 right😂
Nope, Its a 250!
@@themotoacademyYT Ok thanks
Daangg tbh the bottom end did have less than a usual 4-strokes.. top end was crazy though but uno
has to be a lemon i feel some clickers and sag and the engine didn't change compared to the old ones they have the same engine so should just be map issue that u were in a slow map
This bike got more bottom end then that honda 450 lol you are just use to the low power honda and not prepared for the aggressive non linear power, I get it tho man clickbait views money gotta get that bread if you ain't gunna be dominating the 250 last chance qualifiers this year
I don't think any 250 has more bottom end than any 450...
Maybe its a bit stiff cos it is out of the box
Did someone put old gas in it?
It’s a fact that any pro you want to pick to talk to would agree with. It Also doesn’t mean it came off the showroom floor setup right.
Thats the best ive ever seen you ride! WTF are you talking about?
I applaud the honest opinion. Great stuff. Thanks
Yamaha made the airbox too big in search of more top end and lost the best parts of the YZ250F appeal.
One ride everybody knows the rules 7.5
Kind of a dumb review for the simple fact who tests or buys a bike and gives a review without adjusting the suspension? 🙄. Also if you tested the bike in its stock map it’s the same as the 23. Put that bike in hard hitting and it will rip. Also other pros have done videos that are fast as hell said this bike is amazing. One had a friend that was a loyal Honda guy but he said after riding that yz he’s buying a blue one. Also you should know from racing bikes when they are new they have a break in period. Motor, chassis and suspension. Sounds like you were paid by Honda to steer ppl. Lol you say you run a loose academy and run bikes the way they come? Sure hope you are not teaching ppl this!!
When it comes to personal belongings and equipment, we set it up meticulously and encourage others to do the same. This was taking someone elses riding time as he was kind enough to let us jump on it for a session. Take our review with a grain of salt and feel free to formulate your own opinion. This was our experience with it.
Heard some of the same issues from others…
Cycle World rated the Yamaha as #1. Moto Cross Action magazine rated it # 4. I would believe AJ and MXA. (Back in 1978 Cycle World tested the Honda CR250 and the Yamaha YZ250. They said to buy the Yamaha, I did. Junk ! To this day, the 1978 Honda CR250 is a favorite in retro. races. )
@@mxslick50he's giving you an analogy of how bias the DirtBike industry has been since the 70s... If you think it isn't like this today, simply look at politicians and who donated to them. Money makes people's minds up before the fact. Need to use you big boy brain when it comes to analogies 👍
@@tankeater DO NOT try to drag politics into this discussion! And do not twist my comments to suit YOUR agenda. You are in no position to lecture two gentlemen who have been a part of the mx industry for decades as riders (and in my case, other positions) about the state of the industry. Money and political affiliations have nothing to do with the choices riders make about their bikes. We all have brand favorites (as do the test riders on all of the magazines and media). yep, exhaust sound is really suspicious
Agreed. It’s a setup issue. Someone has this bike in left field and it’s hilarious to watch the ktm crew run through the comments ranting and raving how good their keep taking moneys are stock 😉😂😂.
Every bike stock is going to need adjustments. Period.
Riding something with no time taken to set triangle or sag for you not making clicker adjustments. You just can’t get an accurate feel for if something is good or not. All you can tell is the setup is ass.

Maybe check the map he was on haha

You're welcome.
Mmm... thats someone elses bike so who knows how theyve set it up or what they have done to it.
They had a FMF pipe on it and a Keifer map for a stock set up. There's a good chance those two things dont get along.
It honestly sounds rich to me. It sounds like the throttle response is REALLY poor, and it doesnt want to get into the top end. I would think a different map, maybe a fresh air filter. You’re right AJ, if Im honest it sounds like turd. It even looks slow. Hope its just a lemon!
Bahahahaha ,His Head is Sofar up the Lawrence's a$$ of course he is gunna diss Yamaha over Honda
Hahahaha Great insight. He actually loves the YZ450F to the point it might be his favorite bike right now. Thats why he had such high hopes for the 250.
A what ? 7.5 out of 10 ? Thats not a bad rating
Mapping!
Yamaha please build a us a 350
Honestly you put a tune on this and it feels like a 350.. there is a pro guy and his friends that rode this bike and swear by it. The one guy was straight up Honda guy and now hates his new Honda. The other guy was a KTM guy and he mentioned with one of the tunes he said it felt like a 350..
All u need to do is put map in it
ALL 24’s are slugs off the bottom out of the box. Don’t know why YZ went that direction. You have to put a Map and different airbox on to get all the pep back. As for the “planted” suspension feel I agree, the 23 felt like a magnet to the earth and was plush. They went away from that too. 🤦♂️
One ride everyone knows the rules, 7.5 that’s a high high score, you sure you don’t
Like that bike?
You can basically mod any of the current bikes to be competitive, even the Zook. Why is nobody talking about how damn UGLY the new yammies are?
I’m not particularly big on Yamaha in general, but I think these look pretty good.
Eye of the beholder, I guess. 🤷♂️
Different strokes 🤷
Well at least it’s not an electric bike!
Yamaha’s bad batch of bikes must have bled down from their MotoGP bikes 🧐
Yamaha seems to be going in the wrong direction the last two years, I liked my uncles 2021 yz450 but every Yamaha I’ve rode since has felt off.

Not true! The YZ450 is maybe his favourite bike right now! Thats why he was so excited for the 250.
