See if you can get the bit as close to the tool post as possible. It will reduce the vibration and deflection and give a better surface finish. Also try and wrap the outside of the drum with large rubber bands if possible. It will reduce the harmonics and give a better finish. I've done a lot of truck drums. They're tough on a good machine

perfeitamente 👏👏👏
Way back in the 80's I used to machine brakes, Truck and car units. We used to repair the drums from the Fire Trucks and every week we would get a few sets in due to hard work they had been put through. One of the big problems used to be hard spots developing in the drums. Regardless of how well set up they were these were almost impossible to remove without making the drum diameters go oversize. It was a very expensive part of the truck maintance. However we figured out a way to machine these drums and cut the high spots to give a round smooth drum surface. I would remove the cutting tool and use a large high powered die grinder mounted to the booring bar. It did a decent job. A bit different to what you see here as I would have the full assembly supplied hub up to tires still fitted and to remain fitted when machined.
Yes. Man. You worked with these for longtime. So got full of experience for this job. Thank for experiment
For some of the other comments I've read here. The mounting surface (face) was indicated true, the inner diameter was indicated true using an area that appeared to be beyond the wear area. I see no problem with the chucking and indicating. I am sure that before wasting time doing this job the drum was measured to make sure there was material to allow cleaning up without exceeding maximum size. The scary thing was the length of that grinding wheel arbor, but perhaps it was made for other jobs that need that much extension. Although not shown, I expect that after mounting the grinding attachment the wheel was dressed parallel with the machine axis. For anyone not familiar with grinding, dressing a wheel cleans and trues the wheel, making a straight and round cutting surface. It also exposes new abrasive particles that are clean and sharp to provide free cutting.
Yes. Thank man for sharing this
Well done, you have used all tools and the lathe in the correct way. Would be happy to give you a job AAA+
Thank man
Хороший способ ,шлифовальный круг это сделает лучше чем резец👍
It would be better than. Thank
Bravo KS Mechanical Engineering❤
Yeah
trabalho excelente 👏👏👏
Thank. Man
Отличная приспособа, хороший результат.
Thank man
Parabéns pelo ótimo trabalho de usinagem executado
Thanks
Good job 👍
Thank. Man
Шлифовальное приспособление просто класс но тут Оно просто неуместно С уважением Валерий
Yeah man. This grinding tools is not use for precision parts machine
Is it oversized now ? You need live video of drum dimentions to prove it meets specs cast into drum !!
Yes. Maybe later time we will be live stream
Parabéns, o dispositivo de retífica feito por você, ficou muito bom, ficou muito bem dimensionado por isso não vibra. Vou copiar a ideia. Grande abraço !
Thank. It work very well
well doing this the dot can never give you a worn out brake ticket. will never get anywhere near a 1/4 before caming over.
Yeah. Man
❤️❤️❤️🔥
bu kadar uğraşa gerek yok 10 dakikalık iş
Yeah
how many thousandths was removed ? what grit is that stone wheel ? thank you for posting this video sir.
I use 80 grit stone for this grinding process. Thank man
I don't understand why you cut it first. Seems the post grinder could have been your first/only pass.
We need to cut it first before grinding.
Jeffwood-I assume you've never machined anything?
@@Zzrdemon6633 some parts
@Zzrdemon6633 oooo you're oh so superior. 🙄
The only reason he uses that grinder is because the break lathe does a shit surface finish.
Ont ferait cela à une époque , mais juste avec rectifieuse à tambour
Yeah
All the keyboard experts are out in force flapping their chops I see.
Yeah big time hey, it's discouraging how quick we are to be an asshole when we don't have context
Especially the ones who can’t even spell BRAKE !
You can get 2 sets of shoes to a drum but not a third.... without it coming apart
Yes. Thank
С задними смысла нет так заморачиваться, а передние только в паре со ступицей точат, иначе будут бить
Yeah
True but this India .... he would of checked ID if had tool ...
This way next best method ...
At least boring bar would of exposed ovilation ...
Job well done i say ....😂
Yeah
POORA DRUM SIZE QATM KARDIYA AAPNE TOU BHAI SAHAB POINT SIX SE ONE MM TAK CUT KARNE KA TARIQA HAIN DRUM KO YE AAP ZYADA CUT KARKE JOB FAIL KARDIYA BRAKE NAHI LAGEGA SIZE QATM HOGAYA
That looks oversized already did you check to make sure it’s not oversized 16.62 in US
Which size. Man ?
@@KSMechanicalEngineeringHe can see a tenth in a youtube video
I’m guessing using an old fan belt as a lift sling he’s not concerned with any U.S. standard. Just a guess.
Rooster Said no
😂😂😂😂😂
Right. The first order of business would be to measure the existing ID to see if it's near or beyond limit. Then a final Id check to ensure you're within limits. In days gone by I've taken drums to auto machine shops and their first item is to check ID before they even consider accepting the work.
im mechaning im say brake drum you need welding and resurface.
did you remember to add dirt
Yeah
😂
This is why it is cheaper to buy new one, unless you are in India/Pakistan.
Not that reason
@KSMechanicalEngineering I get it. But still a little humor? Chill out dude. I have been machining since 1986. This cut was elementary setup including indicators for true and square. But it STILL took WAY more time than I ,as a consumer, would be able to put in. Give me TWO NEW ONES at PREMIUM and it STILL doesn't cover my time. Sorry, I have first world problems.,.... But yeah that's how it is.
@ yeah
looks like steak and potatoes :)
Yeah. Man cheers
Drum was NOT mounted symmetrically. It wobbled visibly.
Yeah. Man
@@KSMechanicalEngineering The eccentricity must have resulted in uneven and wobbly braking.
Yes. Thank for sharing
How the hell do you center a worn& warped used brake drum???
We center the drum from origin surface
Мы в России новые покупаем. Они у нас дешёвые.
That’s alright. Thank
Требуется компенсация износа? Не получится конус?
Yeah
It's 2024 (nearly 2025) why the heck do drum brakes even exist any more, except for vintage cars and trucks?
Recycle use and saved money
Cách lấy Tâm đã bị sai
What “Tam” ?
Sure is a lot of negative comments on this 🤷♂️. No idea what country this is,as thought most trucks in the uk and Europe would be on disk breaks now accept the very old ones. Dont shout at me if not 😂😂as not been involved with trucks since the 1980’s
Yes guide. It’ a heavy duty truck drum. Thank
16.5 inch drums are 120 dollar. All that work is a waste of time
Yes. It isn’t expensive for 120 dollar at your region. But at least we save 100 dollars from this repairing. Thank
boss money not same price boss another country differance.
Прошлифуй,перед тем как выкинуть!
Reuse able
All you had to do was bor it and put it back on have you never seen a break lathe
Mucho desgaste al torno
Yeah
Wrong way to indicate.
Maybe some point
@grumpyg9350 can you elaborate a little please im curious
!!!!!!!
Align the drum inside, where is worn? Really? Change job man.
Less worn surface. And remove the rust
Kkkkkkkkk.verdade
Waste of time, diameter will be wrong for shoes and thermal surface cracks are still there. Besides they're cheap.
A little bit grinding surface. Diameter isn’t problem for shoes. And we don’t have any crack on this drum. Thank
I wouldn't buy the cheap china junk🔥
Drums are not worth turning waste of time one set of shoes they are readyto fail DOT inspection
Remain some dot on surface
Where did you get that info. ???
@@ruxoneto6560 from repair shop
@@KSMechanicalEngineering I was replying to the guy that said old drums are not worth turning , I think they have not priced brake drums lately 🤑💰💰🤑
