What Happened to Sammy/Sabatiello's from Kitchen Nightmares?

- In this video I take a look at what happened to Sabatiello's and it's owner Sammy after they were featured on kitchen nightmares. Sammy was extremely confident in the quality of his restaurants food, despite the fact that it wasn't fresh. After Gordon helps revamp the restaurant Sammy seems to be on track to get his restaurant out of debt and improve it's reputation. But as you'll see in the video, Sammy ran into quite a few challenges after the filming of the show.

"I kept my composure. I wanted to kill her, but I didn't."
10/10 best man of the year.
There’s one cardinal sin that you should never commit in a kitchen is that you never ever keep cooked meat and raw meat close. You could make people sick.
This might be a stupid question but genuinely I don't know, why is it bad that raw and cooked meat are close to each other?
@@Cheerfuljochan raw meat can carry bacteria, parasites, and pathogens that can transfer to cooked meat. These would then typically be served with minimal reheating, or thrown in soups, shredded into other uses, etc, and that process could potentially contaminate other parts of the kitchen. The food that comes from the contaminated meat is unsanitary & risks poisoning guests too (and potentially killing them depending on the state of their health!)

@@californikaitlin Thanks for taking the time to explain it! Appreciate it seriously :D
Make people sick, or dead
Sammy is a perfect example of why restaurants and businesses fail. He thinks that customers come to his restaurant for him. It's about the food first. NOBODY spends money at a restaurant because they like the owner. Most owners that spend time talking to customers are usually interrupting and a nuisance to patrons.
Reminds me of a "variety" gaming streamer I've been hearing about.. thinks people come to his stream to chill with him but is begging them for money the whole time and calls it a business

My local bar is the only place I go to die to the owner. Slight issue, the owner is my sister-in-law, and im an electrician.
I feel like the reason Sammy didn't get new equipment (despite Gordon openly pointing out the kitchen's shit tools during one of the pre-relaunch services) is because the producers got a feeling Sammy was hoping to use the appearance as a way to get free kitchen equipment out of it.
Yeah he's a scam artist with his hand out .
lowkey feel like the people behind the show recognize those types and choose not to spend money when they're obviously begging for it. exceptions for this exist of course and it's my subjective observation, but most of the time, i feel like the 'for influence' and 'scammers' are treated slightly differently in the show
I doubt that. I'm sure they have a budget for each episode, with some wiggle room of spending more money here, and less money there. It's probably a combination of budget restraints, and the simple idea that his kitchen equipment might be in working order. No one complained about equipment not working in the episode.
@trekkiejunk6322 the equipment was working fine at Blackberry's but they still got them a new stove so it would be _easier_ to cook the dishes the way they're supposed to be cooked. I'm sure Production/Ramsay can suss out who it's useless to give shiny new equipment to.
@@PointsofDataeven though that restaurant reverted back to what it was before
Sammy really went from “Gordon look at my beautiful restaurant let me personally guide you around” to “I can’t believe he didn’t remodel the entire building total scam”
"Why would it be called Soup of The Day if it's 2 days old?"
My question is WHY WOULD YOU SERVE 2 DAY OLD SOUP IN THE FIRST PLACE
Properly refrigerated soup will last a couple of days, couple of months if you keep it in the freezer. Obviously you wouldn't do that with "soup of the day" at a restaurant, that's just bad planning, but overall there's nothing wrong with it.
Srysly, if its frozen immediately after cooking it, then yea, I ate soup months old after defrosting it, I really doubt it he did that, especially with meatballs
Soup is better second day
Depends on the soup I guess. I'm no chef, but love pea & ham (aka thick pea) soup. Add fresh bread and yum. But I think that's something that benefits from slow cooking and allowing time to let the flavour develop. Same with things like marianades, or even chili.. they both taste better with time. But otherwise, I think it's deceptive given most people would assume soup of the day is fresh, even if it's made from yesterday's leftovers. Not quite as bad as all the 'fresh frozen' stuff poor Gordon keeps finding.
I mean soup is good for quite a while if stored correctly. I eat 2 day old soup all the time when my partner makes her soup because she makes like 500000 million gallons of it (obvious exaggeration) but it lasts me, her, and her 3 kids for days without going bad.
I love how he thinks Gordon is out if control when he himself thought of murdering a customer, in national television.

If you think about how many of them don’t think anything is wrong with the business it should be obvious lol.

As an Italian American who likes to cook sometimes, I can confidently say that most Italian American recipes are very easy to learn, especially when it comes to pasta. Anyone can make pasta, and when your lasagna is criticized, it doesn't matter what the ethnicity of the critic is; you can tell bad or mediocre pasta a mile away.
True. Anyone learning to cook should focus on classic Italian recipes first. Italian cooking doesn't involve difficult techniques or transforming expensive ingredients into something unrecognizable. Even a semi-successful attempt at banging out a classic Italian recipe will still taste pretty good.
@@johnstuartsmithas someone who has worked for Olive Garden for 6+ years, yes. The success of our franchise compared to the low effort put into the food is undeniable evidence in support of your comment.

I've worked with people like him, they are a problem. They try to intimidate you until you push back hard. Even then they still try. They can't feel good about themselves unless they make someone else feel bad. Luckily for me they weren't the boss so they got fired. I can't imagine having a clueless, threatening piece of shit like that asshole as a boss.
I worked for one who was an owner. Fired me personally because he told me to get off my phone, and then later another employee saw me using my phone again and snitched. He called it insubordination. Fast forward nine years, the restaurant no longer serves food and only operates as a bar. Because the owner got sent to prison for threatening to kill his wife and the police who responded to her 911 call with a shotgun. The fact that it’s even still open is mind boggling to me.
You forgot the best joke of this episode:
"Thats the wedding soup?"
"Yes, to get you in the mood to get married"
"Jesús, I'll rather get fucking divorced"
The soup scene - clean version:
Gordon - That's the wedding soup?
Sammy - That's to get them in the mood to get married.
Gordon - I'd rather get a divorce.
I guess Sammy was upset he wasn't just bailed out of his debt after getting on the show. The stuff he did after just shows he's a huge scumbag.
Italian wedding soup is a nice dish when done well. It does not hold well as a leftover. The meatballs get soggy and the flavors of the fennel and greens die off quick. Sammy proved himself just full of shit. He lied to customers, he lied to Ramsey and he certainly caused his own demise. Even when the truth sucks, you still have to be honest with your clientele...
and they make the broth a little too minty.
3:36 the violence threats genuinely creep me out 😭 on tv too
There's one line from Sammy himself that describes the issues in the episode:
"Everybody's trying to do their own thing, but there's only one star: And that's me."

Sammy must be a Soprano character that the producers asked the writers to drop.
Best series on RUclips, keep up the awesome work.
Good. I needed another one of these I can watch a dozen times
Chef here. I've worked in more than a few places (go figure) and for a menu change most places will give you a week, 2 weeks top's to learn a new menu. Sure there's the odd place where you learn it on the fly as you progress through service, but that's categorically only done on weekdays as there's less business so more time to focus on getting the derails right
For the relaunch menu part, here's my take as a cook
In my hotel/restaurant, whenever there is a revamp of menu, it usually takes more than 3days to implement. But i have been in certain special cases where it's like we didn't get our shipment of ingredients on that day, so we have to cook everything off menu, which is pretty similar to their 3hour before relaunch menu. Since it mostly feels like impromptu. But again, our head chefs will have an expectation of his/her cooks should be able to handle new food on the fly.
Cooking steak is also one of those things that is taken for granted in most _homes._ So, a chief should be able to cook it... yet, they couldn't even cook ribs... so obviously it's a chief error.
He's right. Just because a food is frozen and a week old, doesn't mean it's bad... for a home meal. But that's not acceptable for a restaurant... and even for a home meal, it shouldn't taste as bad as this one apparently did...
Yea It'd be nice if there was an honest restaurant, who might even offer a discount on older but still highly edible food. Food waste is definitely an issue. And hell, I'm not too picky 😂

Him and Sebastian should get together to start a frozen pizza business.
2:20 “Gordon absolutely loved the Lasagna… [Deadpan Delivery] No I’m just kidding!” I LOVED that one. The “I’m Italian so I’m a wiseguy” schtick is so lame.
Sammy only agreed to go on the show because he thought he'd get a lot off free stuff. Turns out he wasn't deserving and got nothing.

Yes..best kitchen nightmares channel out there. Some other channels say they have film insight but they suck.
Love the videos but I just gotta say it's spelt lasagne and Scotland. Scottland is a town in Canada where everyone is called Scott. Gordon Ramsay is definitely not from there. He tried to apply for residency for the memes but they don't allow any exceptions, not even for celebrity chefs.
Through all of the stupid shit that Sammy said, I'm pleasantly surprised that he actually knew that Gordon Ramsay is Scottish. A lot of people think he's English.
I live in Stamford. This place is now Tutti Pazzi which is much more successful than this ridiculous place.
This is my favourite series on RUclips
Ok no, if I order food, especially something like rack of lamb, it is absolutely unacceptable to just microwave it, just as much as it isn’t okay to microwave that lasagna.
So I had the pleasure of working for this man for a short while when his brother brought him in not long after this all happened. He was always exactly this much of a disaster. And yeah, him and his ex split up because of this situation lol
How did they even become a couple in the first place? His ex must have been in a really bad place. I don't say this lightly, but this guy doesn't have a single good quality. No empathy, no supportiveness, no competence in anything, no success in anything, nothing.
This episode was satisfying to watch for those of us who love watching bullies put in their place. When the boss is a jerk he deserves everything he gets.
I was expecting more comments to say: it’s actually pronounced “Gren-itch” not “Green Witch.” It’s one of those odd names where the pronunciation is way different from what you’d expect from how it’s spelled.
I used to make that mistake all the time myself until I got corrected.
God that woman with the lamb is my hero. I was praying she would be like that. What a legend.

I am an expert in Italian cooking and I completely agree with Sammy, the cardinal sin of Italian cuisine is always and has always been eight meatballs
Lmao. You are the master of sarcasm. I bow to you.
Sammy doesnt have to actually throw out unused food, according to food safety guidelines it is perfectly acceptable to give employees leftover food, if I recall correctly
"i make the best food in the world" and "you are being over critical" cant both be true.
“Do you work for a microwave company?”

Why did Sammy contact Kitchen Nightmare if his food is so good?
you can say all you want but he saying "it's not a goddamn chinese lasagna" is the best thing on the episode

Great episode, im newly addicted to your channel! (Oh, and P.S. the name/town called "Greenwich", is pronounced "grenn-itch" 😉) Thanks for all your hard work that goes into these videos!
I was looking through the comments to see if anybody mentioned Greenwich before I did 😂
Pretty sure Sammy came from a mafia background (or at least thought he did just cause he's Italian) so he took on the persona. Only reason he'd be acting like that and somehow instantly bounce back from a $1M debt
Love this channel ❤️
Sammy is a legend he just makes up positions to diss someone like what, are you the emperor of walking on the right side of the sidewalk? What a G.
He really thought Gordon took from him in the form of him losing out on a week of income instead of realizing that that's the cost of investing in a business
Rewatched this episode recently. Guy was such a colossal BS artist.
We've literally added new dishes at the place I work every week with barely any notice. It's really not "that" easy to learn something within a couple hours.
Sammy was always my favorite. "He's from Scotland, the fuck does he know about Lasagna?" ... said Sammy from Connecticut with surprising confidence. No, you're not an Italian man, every Italian would tell you so.
There was also that arguably racist comment Sammy made about “Chinese Lasagna” when Gordon mentioned that the ground beef more closely resembled dog food.
It's not even that hard to make pasta, which I imagine is why it's popular even in non-Italian restaurants. You don't need to be Italian to make good pasta, you just need to know basic cooking skills.
Its like Sammy purposefully set himself up to fail doing and cooking the food in all the ways Gordon's going to be able to tell its garbage. Way to make an impression, and the world can witness it. Amazon car hop trays.
When he tells Manny to make the lasagna, he tells him, “Do the right thing, Manny. I told him it’s my signature dish.” Lmfao What a fucking dope. “Do the right thing.” 😂
I seriously don't know how much of these are genuine and not acting to create reality show dramas
It's real but of course it's made for American TV which is always over the top and made to keep numb and bored americans engaged with sound effects and ""drama"" so they don't lose interest.
Criticizing a restaurant in times of stress naturally creates drama so they would never really have to fake it anyways. UK Kitchen nightmares is much better for actually learning stuff and seems like a documentary in comparison
I’m just going to say it can’t be a coincidence I commented on a different video I needed more content today and you delivered!!

"How can it be the soup of the day if it's two days old?!"
"I didn't say which day!"
Not to be critical but in the episode the lady with the lamb said it was too pink. Not too cold. :( she wanted them to cook it more since it was too raw.
The kitchen staff get trained in the kitchen during the remodel phase off camera, sometimes they're trained in a different location if work has to be done in the kitchen
Usually theres a recipe book,(typically for training new staff, but also at places where recipe changes are made a lot) at least at the places I’ve worked so everyone should know what they’re supposed to be doing
One thing, one thing that everyone knows. Lasagna, and gumbo are better the second day. The seasonings have set in.
