    How often do you add fertilizer to your containers? Is the brand shown in this video still your recommended brand, does it work for all plants. Thanks.

    Excellent video. I have a heated garage in the Midwest and the temperature will go down to 60 degrees F in the winter. Is this too cool to grow an anubias farm?? It will be low 70's in the summer

    • @AquariumPlantLab
      @AquariumPlantLab  2 года назад +1

      Thanks! The beauty of a setup like this is you can add a heater if necessary. I would recommend trying to keep temps in your setup up near 80F If possible while lights are on. Try not to go below 70F. You can go lower but the growth rate will slow down pretty significantly. Sounds like a heater would solve your winter temp issue 👍

    How often do you change the water and fert solution?

    • @AquariumPlantLab
      @AquariumPlantLab  2 года назад +2

      Typically about once a month. I monitor the water and shoot to maintain about 50ppm nitrate. If it drops much below that then I do a water change.

    Could I use this method for other aquatic plants such as the other types you are growing? (Java Fern and stem plants).

    • @AquariumPlantLab
      @AquariumPlantLab  2 года назад +1

      Yup, it would work for all of them. I might suggest going with a different method for stems though such as soil based.

    Does your tank have holes to let air out? If you use an oxygen pump, it will create pressure as you close the tank. Thank you

    • @AquariumPlantLab
      @AquariumPlantLab  2 года назад

      I don’t have enough buce to make a dedicated video yet. However, based on my experimentation so far I would say that this setup would be excellent. The only thing I would do different is add some foliar spraying to the equation. Buce seems to really appreciate a foliar spray 👍

      I am using almost exclusively clear plastic bins. Lids definitely help as you want to keep the humidity levels pretty high.

    • @AquariumPlantLab
      @AquariumPlantLab  2 года назад

      A lid will be a requirement unless you live in a very humid environment. A plastic bin can be used instead of an aquarium :)

    Is it necessary that at least part of the anubias (i.e. roots and/or rhizome) is in the water or do those balls wick water up above the water level so that the anubias stays wet?

    • @AquariumPlantLab
      @AquariumPlantLab  2 года назад +2

      I believe that the roots at a minimum should be in the water. The hydroton does wick water but I doubt it would wick a sufficient supply of nutrients for healthy growth. Best to get those roots down into the water where they have bountiful nutrients available. 👍

    Great!
    Do you suggest to let the airpump working all day long, or does in it work with a timer?

    • @AquariumPlantLab
      @AquariumPlantLab  2 года назад +2

      Definitely! Keep it running all the time. Helps to keep the roots healthy and to ensure you have fresh atmospheric gases circulating in the air for photosynthesis and respiration (night time physiological processes).

    what other medium that can be used as a substitute for hydroton would you recommend? lava rock? gravel?

    • @AquariumPlantLab
      @AquariumPlantLab  2 года назад +1

      Both lava rock or gravel should work. I would shoot for a medium grain size and lightweight material so that the roots can easily penetrate the substrate. That’s the main thing, you want to make sure the roots can grow through and reach the nutrient rich water beneath. 👍

    • @TamNguyen811

      thank you. Also what size of the hydroton do you use for you set up? under 16mm or bigger?

      Do not use hydroponic fertilizer in your aquarium.
      However, growing plants this way and then using said plants in your aquarium should not be an issue. Most aquarium plants are grown hydroponically. If you’re concerned about it give the plants a rinse and soak in fresh water before adding to your tank. 👍
