Mandy, I consider myself a good home cook, well-versed in many methods. I have *never* seen the separation of dough into gluten and starch before. I was completely mesmerized, and I really really appreciate that you took the time to show us this process, and explain it so well. Your channel is my favorite for Chinese cooking; you completely demystify the process. 😉
i love her accent, ive never made a recipe but i love listening to her talk, the slight 'uh' sound at the end of her sentences is cute (she did it alot more in her older videos)
Hey, I'd just want to say a Thank You to you for all the efforts you put in your videos. I appreciate it a lot and thank to you, I can cook a lot of Chinese dishes for my friends and family no matter how complicated (to novice cook like me) due to your help. Hope you stay safe during the pandemic and please never stop posting.
Wow Mandy this is a very thorough explanation. The spices, the meat, the gluten and the special ingredients. You have really solidified your process and every video is an educational delight! Thank you I am very grateful for your efforts and teachings!
I doubt I'll be making this soup as I'm a single person but I absolutely love your methodical way of explaining this (very) elaborate recipe ; it's just great ; 🖒🖒🖒
I'm fascinated by how much work, effort and how many ingredients went into this dish! So many of us in the world have got used to "convenience" that we have forgotten that the intricate flavours we enjoy usually require this level of love to taste the best. They can never be truly replicated in a factory. I do wonder, though, how often this dish can be made by hard-working people for breakfast every day!? Thank you, as ever, for your wonderful videos.
It proves the value of a good cooking video if it makes you watch it even if you have no intension to make it. I'm sure you'll be more likely to order it at a restaurant when you see it on a menu or pick up the ingredients when you see them. Perhaps just try to make the spice blend?
It doesn't seem too difficult. I don't think I'll be able to get all of the spices, but I think the pepper is really what makes the dish. Too bad its the middle of summer. This looks like it would go great on a bed of rice, or even fresh noodles.
I love your calmness when you explain the recipe step by step. Thank you very much for giving us the download version and the whole description. I cannot wait to try it out. I hope you continue to stay healthy and happy! ❤ 😊 🍜
Your recipes are always so good! I just hope my wife lets me make this. She and the kids don’t like super spicy food, but I sure do. And I can’t wait to try washing the gluten. That looks fun!
I'm starting to hope for a flour master class at some point. Learn something new every episode. Love your passion for how much protein is in each type/brand of flour.
1k like, this is a must do for me since I love peppery condimented foods, time consuming recipe but this lovely lady has taught me that the reward of doing this things the traditional way is so much rewarding and delicious at the end, thank you very much.
This is a new technique for me. I’ve made laphing by turning the starch into noodles and then stuffing the noodles with the steamed wheat gluten. It’s delicious but way too much work to make often. This is a great way to enjoy similar flavors and textures, but with a little less effort. This is definitely going to be weekend meals for my family. I’m sure it will be fabulous, as I’ve only had success whenever I use your recipes. I can’t wait until your cookbook is available!
This looks so good. I learn so much from your channel. I do often make my own seitan but haven’t saved the starch. I think I need to keep it and use it. Thanks.
I love watching your Channel because I discover Chinese dishes that I've never heard of before even though I grew up in Vancouver where there is a lot of authentic Chinese food. 😋
You made seitan! I love this! When I was in high school, like the 1990's, used to make this a lot. I would fortify it with flavors that imitated chicken.
I really love your recipes! It's so refreshing to see such authentic Chinese cooking from so many regions. Unsurprisingly, I had never heard of this soup but it's absolutely fascinating and I can almost picture the flavours. I already have a huge spice cupboard but it's going to be groaning under the weight of all the new spices, sauces, and other ingredients your recipes are encouraging me to purchase. It's a great problem to have!
Looks so yummy!! I'll be the only one in my house that will eat something that spicy (I love spice!!) But would be worth making just for myself hehe. Also, really like your lipstick shade!! 😍
Are you filming in China? Your English is very clear, so easy to understand. I don't eat much starch based food, but I still enjoy seeing how other people prepare food. Somehow, it's satisfying.
That looks delicious, and complicated, and challenging. 👍🏻 I'll try to work up the nerve to try it. 😳 I appreciate that you share this relatively complex recipe. There are some good techniques in here, even if it's a bit much for most people.
I have been looking for a recipe for this ever since I had it for breakfast in Xi'an. Every time I searched on the internet it always tries to show me Hot and Sour soup. Look forward to trying this.
Thanks so much for sharing this recipe!! This was my favorite food growing up and I've been hoping you'd make this and now it's come true! You're the best!!
I absolutely love your channel, I have made several of you recipes and they have always been a huge hit with my family. Thank you! Keep up the great work.
I learned "La" from Produce Panda's song "La La La" means hot hot hot. I would love to try and make this. Thanks for sharing your recipes... always authentic and traditional.
I really feel like an amazing video like these could use a lifestyle side to it like what time of day to you start to prepare each portion of ingredients, how do you store it, reheating especially if it is a breakfest food or maybe you only make it start to finish it on a day off?
Well presented, well produced = calming, entertainment informative video. I don’t even eat meat but this video took me from a frustrated mood to chill. Thanks 👌🏼🙂
I really love your channel. I've seen this process on many Chinese channels but never as well explained. Could you make a video about douchi? And how to naturally ferment it? Best wishes.
Thank you for showing the packages of the spices! It will make shopping much easier! If you make a big batch of soup and store leftovers in the refrigerator, will the noodles absorb the liquid and become soggy?
That is a incredibly complex soup and I am certain it is totally worth the time to construct. Thank you for taking the time to make this video. As a lover of 'Hot and Sour' soup, I always knew there were layers and layers of mysterious flavor elements and unidentified bits in the dish. I now know more and will certainly be closer to identifying those items. BTW my 'Mandy Wok' arrived yesterday. Please show me some wonderful things to do to tofu with it. -=Doug
Wow, incredible recipe! Extremely well explained and informative. I think I would like to try it, with what I am able to find here. Thank you for the video!
Thank you so much Souped up Recipes for all your recipes, Ive subscribed and joined the mailing list. Also made a few of your dishes so far and they always go down well. If possible could we have more dumpling recipes please, like gyozas and steamed. Prawn and chive. Chicken flavours. Maybe even vegetarian ones.
This looks good! I must tell you that I love my wok! I watch a lot of Chinese cooking videos and and am experimenting with the cooking style. My "Souped Up Recipes" wok works very well! Keep the videos coming!
Fascinating tutorial on dough and gluten. I've never seen that process before. Thanks.

This woman has the most comforting voice ever I love it.
She is soooo cute, when she says "oil".
i love her accent, ive never made a recipe but i love listening to her talk, the slight 'uh' sound at the end of her sentences is cute (she did it alot more in her older videos)

I think this is the most complicated recipe from you I've seen so far, but I really want to try it.
LOL! I have more complicated ones
Dan dan noodles, Chinese hamburgers, Moon cake, hot and sour soup dumplings, steamed custard buns....
I am trying this recipe today! I love your videos and i have learned so much about Chinese cuisine from your channel. You're a natural teacher!
If I had this for breakfast I'll sleep again 😂 looks yummy
Quite the contrary actually. It's suppose to wake u up.
🤣🤣🤣
Mandy! What an incredible recipe!! You are SUCH a great teacher.
Thank you for showing us how to make this soup. What a great video! ☀️

You can always put it in the freezer or share it with friends 😊❤️
Thats when its best though because you can make it the way you like it.
Freeze the basic stock in portions and just add your mix-ins to serve.
I appreciate how much work you put into these videos and how thorough you are with your explanations.

i probably wont be making this as it is very involved, but it was so interesting to watch the process. thank you!

Hi from 🇸🇬 singapore! I love your recipes. Tried a few already! Wasn't salty, excellent for me😀
Omg yess! I needed a video to watch with breakfast! Love your videos!
That was the most fascinating cooking tutorial I have ever watched! Thank you!
Your recipes are always so good! I just hope my wife lets me make this. She and the kids don’t like super spicy food, but I sure do. And I can’t wait to try washing the gluten. That looks fun!
your channel has a good mix of cooking, filming quality, science behind the food, and joy in cooking.
keep up the good work!!
"I'll be right there, I'm just gonna make some breakfast."
So true. Things like this is why girlfriends get me in trouble
I'm starting to hope for a flour master class at some point. Learn something new every episode.
Love your passion for how much protein is in each type/brand of flour.
I'm going to try your dish. I'll let you know how it turned out. Thank you for the recipe. Have a wonderful day.
I love it. I always eat it in the weekends. It cost me 60 cents the vegan Hulatang and 90 cents the beef Hulatang.
1k like, this is a must do for me since I love peppery condimented foods, time consuming recipe but this lovely lady has taught me that the reward of doing this things the traditional way is so much rewarding and delicious at the end, thank you very much.
