- The most important part of taking care of your Bonsai trees is watering. How often a tree needs to be watered depends on several factors such as; species of the tree, size of the tree, size of the pot, time of year, soil-mixture, and climate.

I have my bonsai gardenia indoors. I use distilled water and I water everyday. When the water runs into the drip tray I pour it back into my watering can and I water the tree again. I leave a little water in the drip tray at all times. I then mist the leaves with a spray bottle filled with distilled water. I have been doing this everyday for 3 months and my bonsai is very happy. I don't water almost because it never dries out even some leaves fell down...Even under grow lights of 16 hours it's a very long process to dry out..If I dig a bit with a finger I feel my soil is moist and I pruned my olive bonsai once...Seems better but still remains wet

I have just startet growing my first bonsai from seeds. Does this rule, to keep the soil moist apply here as well, or is there anything special to keep in mind? They are currently only a few months old :)
Yes it does, but it also depends on the soil you use. Seedlings can be kept in organic soil, and then need less watering than inorganic soils would - moist is good though! Not wet, not dry :)

I have bought some Bonsai Soil from a hardware store. I always try to keep is moist, but definitely have to be patient and wait for them to grow :)

My carsoma Bonsai is not doing too well.
The initial advice given by Abana on watering was not explicit, like the advice on this U tube.
Can you use for Carsoma Bonsai, fertilser of peels of fruits and veggies?
I'd use a liquid plant fertilizer.
I was gifted a juniper bonsai and it was doing well until I set it outside for too long. Also I started watering in the kitchen sink. However the bonsai began growing mold on the pot and around the tree. I assumed it was due to an unclean sink while watering.
Junipers need to be kept outdoors, always, year-round. If you keep them indoors they will die, and if you keep them indoors and suddenly put them outside in winter they will die even quicker :) Perhaps read up about Juniper care here: www.bonsaiempire.com/tree-species/juniper

In short; if water can drain out well from your pot (which is important!) you just water a lot and the excess water will drain out. Tap water is fine, or rain water is even better.
If you buy a bonsai from a bonsai from a local nursery and they tell you the bonsai doesn’t need to be transplanted but you want to still do it because the soil they used is not optimal. Can you do it?

What is the limiting factor in keeping a juniper indoor? If I have a grow light can I keep it inside
Seasons, changes in temperatures, light intensity, etc etc. Trust us when we say it won't work indoors.

What humidity tray is that? Does it have a porous material in the base?
Usually its just a plastic tray with some pebbles in it, to elevate the pot from the moisture.

Great video! But a question about my Bonsai: I now waterd it until the water came out of the holes on the bottom. Yet the soil still feels dry right after I waterd it. Like it sucks it up immediately or something. Also I can't really press my finger in it to feel if its wet cause it's pretty hard. The soil In it are some kind of black clay grains. How do I know if I waterd it correctly and when to water it again? I heard the clay grains could change color if they get dry. Miine are now pure black and feel really dry.
So do I need to water it more or is it good enough to water till the water comes out underneath? I hope the question is clear, I just don't want to under water it and I don't know how to see if u gave it enough and when it'll need more.
You can consider watering a second time a few minutes later, making sure the substrate can soak up the water. Inorganic soils however do not store much water - which is a good thing to prevent overwatering.
@@bonsaiempire another question. I was watering the bonsai and saw some little spiders on it and think I saw some litlle snails and really tiny worms. Also my bottom part is really pretty dead wood. But it got soft parts in it like it looks like ground so I was wondering if that could be rotting??? Im kinda in panic haha.... Also another note I was taking out those what seemed to be rotting pieces and found that there are some soft parts in the wood that if pushed get some water out. Is this a sign of to much water? Please help I can't find annything on the matter!

Better to over water than to under water.
With modern bonsai substrate its virtually impossible to overwater
I agree with that - modern substrates (the mix we recommend is Akadama, Pumice and Lava rock in equal parts) drain easily. We have a video on substrate as well.
No resolution is possible anymore...accept it or not the same result will occur.

@@bonsaiempire id like to know where you get the information that most bonsai die due to watering. Also if bonsai are dying in this way its because people are ignorant and probably not even using the right substrate
@@bonsaiempire very true….it’s not easy…I needed to find what worked for mine…watering and misting everyday seems to make mine happy. When I did not do that I would find at least 5 - 10 dead leaves everyday. Now I hardly ever see dead leaves.
