Thank you for reacting to Hua Chenyu. He reminds me, and others a lot of Bowie, but more because of his versitility rather than his voice , i guess. You never know what you get but you know it will be awesome. Nunchucks is a rearrangement of a straight forward rapsong by Jay Chou. Totally different. The philosophy behind martial art is huge in China so i dont find the lyrics random. On the contrary… rather deep. As you pointed out.. the mix of both hard and soft. Absolutely everything in this performance is about the concept of hard and soft. But i also find the lyrics funny coz im not that much into martial arts.

You are right, there's a lot of Daoism philosophy in the lyrics which are hard to translate. That might be the reason why it reads funny.

@@peggy_tan Makes a difference on just your own definitions as well, I for one have never thought good and kindness being equal to weakness. Or that benevolence had anything to do with control.

Hua Chenyu is a performer, and yes, I get the Bowie similarity, another visual artist.
Hua Chenyu is an emotional singer who puts a lot into his songs, he's a clever arranger of music, bringing out different aspects of the songs, but his original compositions are something special, he touches subjects that are generally taboo, especially in China. Truly unique.

Absolutely a mixture of Freddie Mercury and David Bowie, but probably more Bowie because he's a chameleon in genres, vocal techniques and appearance. He grew up listening to Muse, Radiohead and Linkin Park. I don't even have this "Nunchucks" performance in my personal Top 50 Hua Chenyu Performances. If you let us know what genre you like "Hua Hua" will have done a song in that genre. So we could give more focused suggestions to your taste. (He is also a multi Multi instrumentalist, prolific Composer and music arranger. And has dabbled with acting. He's also on a Game/Entertainment Show, as a member of the Host Team. He just keeps expanding his abilities. But dancing is not really one he embraces. 😂 Recommend his Broadway style duet with Su Shiding of "Perhaps Love". And their duet of "Nanping Evening Bell". She has an exceptional voice. 👍
