It's a way to prevent people from interfering with each others content, while allowing everyone to enjoy themselves. It also prevents negative content streamers who would rush shit on the server just to show the content first and ruin it for everyone else. So basically the abyss stuff he was doing like probably end of week 1, they'd probably planned for everyone to start on it week 2 or 3 or something. Basically, no spoilers before a certain date. They spoke about this in one of the videos sleepy made last time during his last excursion on an offline tv minecraft server
This is why servers like hermitcraft are so good, you can literally do whatever you want without having annoying restrictions of “progressing the server too fast”, things like this usually cause the downfall of servers

And once everyone gets it no one's going to play on the server because eventually everything becomes too easy and you have no reason to really be on the server anymore. So I understand that they expected a natural progression, unfortunately sleepy did not believe in natural progression. Lol 😂 It was more for the life of the server and less of they didn't want sleepy to be stronger than everyone

It sucks sleepy got forcibly rolled back but he's doing the smartest thing career wise for this whole ordeal and just bowing the knee rather than getting upset that his work is getting trampled on by some fucking admins that release a pack with seemingly 0 testing, who make it a rule to not look any of the mods up but also continually nerf anything that seems to give an edge. Even though the game isn't PvP centric, nor does having any of these "op" items really affect literally anyone else.
