Great video, I've never used a painter's pole. I'm now in the market for a couple of portable operating kit. You clearly demonstrate the how of 1 man antenna erection. Not sure I can do the knots and lashing anymore, it was 50 years ago when the Boy Scouts tried to teach me those skills. You should give USCG credit for teaching you knots and lashing. Thanks John. There are plans to make a few videos on some handy knots that should help. Interestingly enough, though I learned a few knots in boot camp, all my knot knowledge comes from self study. There wasn't much need for them at an air station or CGHQ :)
It would be a lot easier if you used guy runners/locks.

+ShooterReady We were referring to the fact that we were not using a tree but yes.
shooterready it kinda pissed me off when he started talking about the guy wires.

Thanks for posting this video. I have a 23' painter's pole that I would like to use with a GP-1 vertical. Would I need one set of guy wires or two? How tall is the painter's pole in the video? The link to Lowes no longer works.

Hi, remember it all depends on the angle of the dangle. Could have done with you when me and my crew were putting up antennas in a howling gale at night. All good stuf. 1st piority though is did you get the camp stove lit and the kettle on for a brew when you had completed the antenna errection ?. 73 and good DX de John - G0WXU
