The great Don Rickles is guest on 'The Tonight Show with Jay Leno' during this rare October,1996 interview (It may be out there on the internet, but I've never seen it). Don discusses his recent trip to Italy with his wife and his usual humorous-ferocity toward Jay and everything else. Leno gets too much criticism, I like him and his wit & dry sense of humor, and if not for his Tonight Show and his great guests we wouldn't have such precious Don Rickles moments.
"This is the way you got to remember your audience: dull and fed-up." -Rickles
Don Rickles (1926 - 2017) was an American stand-up comedian, actor, and author, known especially for his insult comedy. A headline performer at Las Vegas hotel-casinos and peripheral member of the Rat Pack via friendship with Frank Sinatra, Rickles received widespread exposure as a frequent guest on talk and variety shows, including The Dean Martin Show, The Tonight Show Starring Johnny Carson/Leno and Late Show with David Letterman.
The Tonight Show with Jay Leno is an American late-night talk show hosted by Jay Leno that first aired from May 25, 1992, to May 29, 2009, and resumed production on March 1, 2010 until its ending on February 6, 2014. The fourth incarnation of the Tonight Show franchise debuted on May 25, 1992, three days after Johnny Carson's retirement as host of the program. The program originated from NBC Studios in Burbank, California, and was broadcast Monday through Friday at 11:35 p.m. in the Eastern and Pacific time zones. Unlike Carson or his predecessor Jack Paar, Leno only once used a guest host, preferring to host the series in person.
