APC External Battery Backup Pack BR24BPG (for UPS Model BR1500G) Review

  • The BR24BPG battery pack extended the runtime of my computer, cable modem, router, etc. from 60 minutes to 265 minutes. It’s totally worth the cost.
    The BR1500 model of the APC battery backup units is the best. BX and BM don’t have the extender. They’re good but they don’t accept the extension pack like the BR1500G does. Get the BR unit from APC directly. The replacement batteries aren’t too expensive for what they give you, too.
    This video also shows you how to open the BR24BPG case so you can replace its batteries.

    This is good for people who are in areas where power goes down for more than one hour. I highly recommend this UPS model + battery pack add-on extension for that kind of living.
    I am blessed with only 1-2 minutes of power downtime a few times per year. Where I live. Back-UPS Pro 1000 S model 600W with 10 minutes run-time with everything plugged in for me.

    Great video! The instructions given to me with my Battery Pack were pretty slim. Didn't even know if like the original 1500 purchased to attach to if the batteries had to be flipped or turned on in any way shape or form. I'll be able to attach / install with confidence. Thanks.

Do you have the link to the website with the instructions you referenced in the comment below by chance please?

    Good video! FYI according to Schneider Electic. There are no replacement batteries. All you do is order another backup battery pack. Then throw out the old one. I'm sure there are compatible APCRBC batteries if you what to go that route.

    Excellent review ...and loved opening up the add-on battery pack. I wonder if you could just create your own extender ...provided you can find that connector APC is using...or possibly change that out too. Changing those batteries are a pain as I see it ...and it does not look like there is anything other than the batteries in it. Just basically adding more storage in parallel apparently and it is 24 volts DC I am guessing. Also do you know if the BR1500G can run off just the extender pack if y=the main batteries are dead?

      I am also interested to know if the BR1500G can run off just the extender pack if y=the main batteries are dead? Do you get any more details on this?

    • @ALinsdau
      @ALinsdau  3 года назад

      I've not tried running the main batteries down, then adding in the external pack. It appears they discharge in parallel to give you more net run time.

      @@ALinsdau Actually my main battery is still not completely dead yet and works 2-3 minutes if the computer ON so I can only get the time to shut down my PC but the power cut here stays like 10-15 minutes so should I replace the main battery or buy an external battery pack? By the way, I only connect my computer to my APC BR1500G which has RTX 3080, Ryzen 7 5800X with 850W PSU 80+ Gold rated, and all other things like my monitor, router, etc. are connected to my Home UPS Inverter supply so they always ON after power cut...What do you suggest I need to do?

  • @Kingkoopa00
    @Kingkoopa00 4 года назад

    How are the batteries wired to the main UPS? Is it just 2 wires going from the positive/negative block inside the external battery pack or are there extra control wires?

    • @ALinsdau
      @ALinsdau  4 года назад

      There's an external cable with connector that comes out of the secondary pack specifically designed for the main UPS. I don't think it has a "universal" design...it's specific.

    Any suggestions on opening mine. I tried to lift for those tabs and can't get it to budge. I think one of the old batteries are swollen and making it hard to move. Even used flat blade screwdriver to wedge those tabs and rubber mallet to tap it in the directions it slides to open and no go.

    IInside are four 12volt 9Ah battery use on serial+paralel system to made output 24volt with 18Ah ?Is inside any electronic mainboard? Just have that connecting cable and make a powerbank with only 2
    batteries such as inside the UPS or connect an outdoor 24 volt 7-20Ah battery
    That output cable must be compatible with some 3-connector battery pack manufactured and used by APC !

    I thought I would add an important comment, when you are buying an APC unit, be sure to make sure it has an expansion slot before ordering. Mine did not, and luckily, and I mean Very Luckily, I am OK with the 17 minute battery run-time as I have an auto shutdown configured on my home PC with the free Powerchute software from APC, as my small database server consumes very little power and needs to stay on while my PC can safely shut down.
    Lucky me, no extension port. So be sure to check model, and even call APC during their open hours to confirm that your model does, if this is something that you think you may be needing.

    Nice, but it would have been MUCH more useful if you had a true run test. Like, unplug the rig from the wall to simulate a power outage and *see* if you really get your 260 minutes. In my case my new CyberPower 1350 unit displays about 45 minutes but will shut down in about half that time when tested. UPS's are great but the battery life ratings are like the old "peak" power ratings on audio amplifiers... Smoke and mirrors at best!!

    So there really is NO trick to the front -- just pop it because the catches are opposing. It's worth pointing out that the side the three screws go THROUGH (in the front) is the one that slides up! The side the screws go into holds the batteries.
