      Low Expectations would be good too. I have "planned" for decades successfully, but not this bujo stuff. First attempt was 2020 and I found it annoying that the pages were not pre-dated and I had to waste tons of time drawing my own calendars. Some pages were pre-filled at the beginning, about 6 months worth. But I had to just journal on blank pages because I needed to write more stuff there. Then I was able to make the 2nd half work a little better. Finally figured out I could do my own art instead of the crappy looking flowers they had. Spent lot of time with the doodles, trying to think of stuff to draw. And had to draw forest fires, dams breaking, hurricanes, murder hornets, prisoners getting out of jail free, all kinds of high strangeness. I wanted to record reality, not some pretty little lies. I'm thinking of using a mob with torches and pitchforks for the "protests" but I saved a spot for that in June, and I was remembering my father and it's a happy page right now, I hate to ruin it with ugliness. Maybe I'll cover it with a post it.

    You should do a "1 month in my bullet journal" series! That way you can show exactly how you use you bullet jpurnal and your notebook together.

    • @ioanahayman
      @ioanahayman  7 лет назад +13

      Hmm, that would be cool! How does that work, is it filming every day what I do? I'm worried that'll be too long and people won't be interested (even this video was super long and rambly I think - maybe I'm just overly critical) 😜

    • @purpledoneright
      @purpledoneright 7 лет назад +6

      Mistral Spirit you should look up boho berry in youtube she just finished a 1 month in her bullet journal series, just to give you an idea. But if it was me I would plan in the morning, review at night, film anything significant during the day, and edit it all together. But I really like the idea of you showing how you use your 2 books together, and some note taking..... I think you could do a 10 to 20 minute video everyday (depending on the day) and it wouldn't be too long and very interesting. The nice thing about doing a video everyday is you don't have to explain everything at once.

    I really admire all the energy, thoughtfulness, mindfulness, and intention with which you approach life. You are really inspiring me to take some concrete steps in envisioning->planning->creating a life that is more of what I want, through mindfulness and focusing on consistency and small steps. This is a great way to keep many big intentions in mind and keep putting some kind of energy into bringing each idea closer to fruition, even when they seem far away and may take a lot of time to be fully birthed! Thank you for sharing this!!!

    Do you mind if I suggest some additions to your "ApocaList" (love that!)? * You tried curling and learned to high-jump. What about competing in the Olympics with one of those? Look in to it. Both are COMPLETELY doable!! * Write a play (radio or stage) or an opera? * Create a recipe? Enter a baking contest? * You want to own a business. You might start with the goal of running a table for one season at a holiday craft sale or summer flea market or farmer's market. * Speak at a meeting of the school board or parks commission or town zoning board about an issue of concern to teenagers or artists or the visually impaired (more in s second comment)? * Work on a political campaign? * Serve on the board of a corporation or agency or social enterprise. * I loved your list! Thank you.

    You really inspired me to start a bullet journal. BUT, I'll start it in 2018. Firstly, I hate starting in the middle of something, or starting a new journal before I finished the old one. Secondly I don't know if I'll really do it. Right now I'm super excited about it but I can imagine that in a few weeks I won't be that into it anymore ;D So I made a plan! If I'm still into it a month or two from now, I'll buy one, prepare 2018 and then I'll give it a try. If not, then I didn't waste the money. I actually started something like a bullet journal last year and I managed to keep it till February, which always makes me feel bad. So this time I need a concept so I won't be overwhelmed :)

    How do you keep up with taking notes in class and changing pens and using highlighters?

    • @ioanahayman
      @ioanahayman  6 лет назад +13

      I've never had trouble keeping up because I always only write with pens at first, and then at home or at some later time I go in with highlighters. So the focus during lectures is to simply get the material down via pen!
      Of course, if the teacher goes super fast it's harder - but typically if they go fast it's a material-heavy class with less charts, so I'll be taking typed notes for those types of classes.

      When I went to school typing notes or recording lectures wasn't an option. I had to write and being a math major, well, typing doesn't work when you need to write graphs and formulas and weird symbols I cant' find on the keyboard. When I broke my arm I had to learn to write with my non-dominant hand. In 6 weeks my handwriting looked about the same by the time the cast came off. Calculus, Statistics, Linear Algebra and Differential equations, Computer science schematics and Programming languages, Flow charts; I cant' type that kind of thing. My notes were a mess.
      I've heard you remember it better if you write it down in class, then re-write it neater after class to keep. Use that to study from. Her notes and handwriting is SO NEAT!! Like typing, wow. Sometimes I couldn't even read my own stuff. Plus the added stress of trying to get it jotted down before the professor erased it...
      Same problem with Chemistry, physics all those types of subjects. I love writing for myself, but not term papers, and being a math major was my way of avoiding having to write papers. haha
      Studying Music would be the same thing. Even logic and critical thinking required weird formulas and symbols not used in normal math. Astronomy.... I'm an oddball. Had to include doodles and charts and diagrams in my notes.

    I'm not an organized person, I tend to like do something spontaneous and just put my plan on my smartphone. But, it always makes procrastinate my task as I don't really get to details what I want. And here I come to plan a bullet journal for this 2019. I am kind of person have an anxiety to plan anything but tend to forget easily. I think, I might have to make a journal to make my plan better and enjoy with it. And I love your bujo. it give me a kind of tips that I want to start to be more organized than what I am in 2018. I love some of minimalist and not too fancy. Thanks for the tips! I will keep looking for this video to start my own bujo for 2019. If you dont mind, to share a bit, how your first journal on your next video. Thanks 😁

    You are very artistic and I am guessing visual. I am more a minimalist myself, though I do like using some color. I have used a notebook/planner since my late teens (more years than I care to admit). It was a way to overcome procrastination and forgetfulness. I moved to a bujo when I first came across the idea, about ten years ago. Long before they used stickers, drawings, and icons in them. As for your school notes and writing them just once, research shows that writing notes three times helps longtime learning of the material. Just saying.

    This is honestly one of the most useful bullet journal videos I have ever watched. I am using this as inspiration for some spreads to use I LOVE your habit tracker with steps. I always have a hard time with habit trackers because I find I end up half doing a habit and just mark it as done when really I've only partly been "eating healthy" for example.

      hey hun, Nattie, Heidi, and Mary... you got to love your daughters and be proud of them as they are hun, they are perfect as is, don't try to turn them into someone else... they will love u more if you see them for who they are, even if they are messy and unorganized on the outside, they may be more organized internally. if you want to change someone to be more organized then change yourself because that is your only right

      All about This your right, All parents should not force their children from what they just want them to be, Every parent should be proud of them even theyre unorganized or messy because in the future they might be not good at being organize or doing things like this but they have a talent on something just not like this, and if you just support your child in what he/she wants, he or she will be much more comfortable about what he/she wants when they will grow up.

    Thanks for walking me through your bujo. Just a suggestion about your symbol/key page that you have taped in behind your apocolist page. You might consider creating a barn door that flips out beyond the margin (like you've done) but instead of arranging the list from inside the fold to out (like a list you've pasted in from another book) try listingthe symbols down the swing out left margin so that you can leave it folded out to reference while you turn the pages and use the symbols. For your color codes, make a small barn door that flips up beyond the top margin the same way we've done the symbol key barn door.
    I love how you use your monthly spread as a memories diary.
    I like the fact that you have 2 books for different purposes. I have a set of messy 400'page note-taking journals that last about a year, so at the end of each year i can write the year on the bottom edge and add the book to my stack of identical journal books. I need to get a bullet journal, like you've done, to put my organized thoughts into in a way that helps me archive and retrieve the important things that will guide and motivate me to change / improve myself.
    I like that your bujo is future looking and purposeful.
    Your bujo looks beautiful, you are very artistic, but you don't ket your art take over. One thing I've gotten for myself is a pack of full sheet blank sticker paper that i use to make computer-generated elements to stick into the journal. If you have a particular element that you want to use in your journal, but dont want to redraw every instance, print a sticker page full of those elements, and just peel and stick them into your journal. These custom stickers also work great for covering mistakes or reusing areas you dont love. The great thing about full page sticker paper is you don't need to use it just for computer generated elements. You can also use it to draw and color an element by hand to cut and paste into you journal.

Thats actually a nice idea. I am new to bullet journaling and searching for information and I love your Ideas. I like the sticky Notes thing so you can "expand" the pages a little bit and it looks cute too! But your writing is soo small I can write small but I write pretty ugly.
