Great job with the video! It blew my mind seeing that alt build in the background of the box art, haha. I never had an actual Exo-Force set (it's one of the many themes I just stared at in my catalogues!), but I did have some of those green hair pieces- I think for some reason kid me thought it'd be a great idea to get some from Lego's pick-a-brick
What a legendary review. So many attention to details! My favourite part is the use of ZNAP parts to make a Mech Hangar bay! I'll definitely steal that idea
The titan tracker is very interesting in how it has concepts used from the original concept of the Valkarie from "SDF Macross". Most notable the legs bent backwards in the gerwalk mode. The bridge walker seems to be inspired by the Battle Pod or the Glaug from macros, with its bipedal, bent backwards legs design. The Striking venom reminds me of some of the multi legged mechs from "Fang of The Sun Dougram". This would make sense seeing that both Macross, and Dougram, were part of Revell's Robotech model kit line in the early 80s. Also the Photos this video were great making us feel like were watching the maintenance unfold!
What's even more interesting is that the Bridge Walker seems to be an amalgamation of 4770 Blizzard Blaster and most of it's alternate builds, with the White Lightning originating from a Sentai Fortress prototype (most likely before they decided to give you a fully upgraded Battle Machine there) The Bridge Walker discovery is by Mohcirshii, although it's not the only Alpha Team Mission Deep Freeze similarity, suggesting that one of its designers must've also worked on Exo-Force.
7:49 I wanna see this as an anime By the way, where can I find Christian Faber's Exo-Force sketches in glorious high quality? Also, about the set itself: This was my first Exo-Force set and I love it a lot. But the Technic pins that make the shoulder joints quickly wore out and couldn't hold up the arms anymore, so I always longed for more Galidor joints. And Takeshi is the best-looking pilot. His figure is so well-played-with that all his parts have become loose.
Here it is, the very first lego set I ever owned, aside from the ubiquitous "bucket of bricks" I feel every Lego fan, new or old, begins with. I'm pretty sure this was a birthday present back in the day. I loved this set a lot, and I wish I still had it put together. Heck, I don't even know where all the pieces are... I've actually been considering buying a sealed copy and building it. Sacrilege, I know, but the joy in Exo-Force for me is the building process. Also, the Grand Titan is the coolest of the mech designs, sorry Stealth Hunter fans, it's just a fact. I'm definitely not biased in this at all.
This set has such a remarkable design, I am honored that I've seen the Master Builder life-size model in person to admire it even further, then own the set afterward. Easily my favorite Battle Machine of all 3 years of Exo-Force, even with the Power Brick-centered construction.
Huh interesting. I never thought this Mech had that much lore behind it in, and out side the universe. As for recognisability, yea, I can see why this thing it's seen as Exoforce version of Tahu (even if to me Stealth Hunter fitted that role better, but them again, that's just my opinion on the subject) 12:10 WARNING! WARNING! JESSY USED WRETCH ATTACK! DUCK FOR COVER!! XD
The Grand Titan is a great set. I do prefer it slightly over the Stealth Hunter, although I wish it could've also had ratchet jointed arms. Wonder if the reason why it doesn't use those is due to possibly having been designed first, as you can easily adjust the build to use ratchets instead. (Also ironic, considering you mentioned how the Light Brick feels designed around it) Since we're back to Human mechs, we also get a nice little Kanji breakdown here. Immediately felt joy once I saw the first Kanji and it was enjoyable to learn more here. Also nice discovery with the logo! It's nice to see Vito finally make an appearance, a quite substantial one on that, and using the term ratchet joints. For whatever reason, this term seems widespread in the action figure community, yet nobody in the LEGO community seems to know about it. Part of why I'd call them ratchet joints, but a certain Slug seems to insist on calling them Galidor joints. The Slizer/Bionicle ones are also just called balljoints. I prefer ratchets as balljoints can wear out over time, even though they do have some advantages. Titan Tracker I do think that it has a few issues (the one barrel that sticks out or the hollowness on the sides) but it's still an interesting build, and the only two legged mech with arms in the alt builds. Personally it reminds me more of a Rabbit with those "ears" on it's back. To me the alt builds were a different kind of Exo-Force, almost like an alternate universe. 11:08 I used to think it's the only one, but the Thunder Fury's alt build also shows up on the Sonic Phantom box art/instructions. Note how the boxes seem to depict an earlier version of Exo-Force, with the Stealth Hunter also showing a gate similar to the prototype of the Sentai Fortress. 00:30 Nice pose, although the right shoulder (our left) was slightly disconnected. 02:00 Interesting to know about the Wrench's origin, I figured it came from some of the 4+/Jack Stone sets. 03:32 The Stealth Hunter also did this and so did the Supernova. Out of the regular sized Human mechs in Year 1, only the Silent Strike didn't due to how it's turbines are mounted. 03:52 Only now noticed that the Stickers are adding up, will be interesting to see how that's at the end of the theme :P 06:30 Curious where the "Passion Project of Mech Loving LEGO Designers" came from. Exo-Force was definitely meant to be a mech theme, and you can easily see it with how nearly every set features a piloted mech. (Unfortunately some sources with poor research, such as the one referenced on Wikipedia, claim that LEGO simply wanted to jump on the anime bandwagon, whereas it's clear that it wasn't just meant to be Anime but Mech Anime specifically) What's also interesting is that the Tsunami mechs already seem to have a lever mechanism at the back, although we're not sure what it was used for. The lower legs and thighs were definitely more detailed, although they might have overdone it a bit on the thighs and the feet were rather small in comparison. A mention for bringing up the Grand Titan differences (bracket corners & L plate orientation on the feet, Titan Tracker stickers) would've been nice. (There's also the early box art which is identical to what was shown in the magazine) It's also not the only one to feature earlier stickers in the alt builds. Seems like those were done before the sets were finished, with only the last image (showing the completed build) being redone. 11:26 "But we're a long way from the Bridge Walker" xD When you realize how much work this took and how many sets there are left to cover.
My money is on the older technic ratchet and pin parts being used so that the arms fit under the pauldrons. That's a neat fact about the sonic phantom box art! We'll make sure to mention that in the Thunder Fury video. -Jesse
Such a cool video! I’ve been getting into Exo-Force over the past month or so and it’s been an absolute blast! It’s genuinely so cool to see all the prototypes and unused concepts (how did you guys manage to find those btw??) that led up to what would become the final product. I also had no idea that the Titan Tracker was on the Stealth Hunter box art. Kinda wanna build it now…
There was a public folder that someone uploaded to Google Drive a while ago that has loads of Christian Faber's concept art related to Exo-Force. There were also some prototype models from later years as well. -Jesse
2:37 you seem to have built Matau wrong. His pelvis piece should be one stud lower and his neck should be affixed to the back axle hole to lower his head
I’ve been working on a massive Exo-Force MOC for over a year now and I notice some of your shots throughout the video are from a custom hanger build. Do you plan on showing a full shot of your MOC at any point? I’ve only uncovered like two Sentai Fortress upgrades in my scouring of the internet.
We'll give it more time when we get to the Sentai Fortress episode, but that won't be for a while! Feel free to add me on discord, I can send you more pictures! My username is obsidianstar - Tyler
@@BattlePeak Awesome! I’ll have to make a discord account… I’ll reach out this afternoon. I have some information you may find useful for future videos. Thanks!
I've got plans to expand that build, when I get more time. We'll see how long that takes, but once it's done I'd love to put that in a behind the scenes video. -Jesse
@@BattlePeak I’ll definitely be looking forward to it then. One of the struggles I’ve encountered is the delicate balance of accuracy to the source material, and head cannon. It’s taken me awhile just to get the basic frame built out.
The Grand Titan may very well be a favourite of mine as it simply looks complete compared to some of the other mechs. I think that many of the alt-builds from the Exo-Force line certainly stand on par with the main builds, particularly in the case of this set.
I'm definitely calling low profile mechs "chicken suits" from now on
"I am the Claw, and the Claw wishes to fly too!" *combines with the Stealth Hunter*
you make it sound like the mech just amalgamates others. I am here for that.
Love the way you referenced the Mountain Warrior here!

@@BattlePeak Thank you Jesse!
@@BattlePeak Given that the individual machines are the Dragon Wing & Dragon Claw, would the Mountain Warrior be the full Dragon? :P
Using Takeshi's hair as cabbage was the funniest thing to me. What a choice.

Another fantastic video, guys! I’m okay if I’m going to be an old slug before the series is over if it means it’s going to be *this* good! ❤
Hopefully it won't take that long! We've got so many video ideas, and if we want to get to any of them we'll have to get faster.
