That sets a dangerous precedent for other donors. He gave up his sperm, he is not legally a father to these children so shouldn’t have to pay anything. It creates a new problem for other donors who do NOT want children but want to help other families. I don’t know what contract he signed but it would be better to just send him to jail. As I am watching this I realise he probably didn’t have any contract, but because he willingly gave away his sperm should mean something in the eyes of the law that they did not want the children created by his sperm.

i know a lot of people go to china to adopt ecause of how little the cost is in comparison to other countries. adoption is a lot of money in addition to raising a child. also there's more "supply" since china doesnt really have the space in cities for many children households. ive heard from my chinese friends how little space there is there, and how tthere's small grass only for looking, they just dont have the space where people want to live and raise kids. I personally dont think thats an environment i would want my future children to live in

    • @Carols989
      @Carols989 2 месяца назад +392

the comments made me curious, so I jumped face first into researching this cuz its pretty interesting and there is a whole paper that covers the basis of white americans adopting babies from other countries. And the data is basically:
      - private adoption is hard/they were rejected
      - they [the adopting families] assimilate the foster care system with poverty, unhealthy children, and drug abuse (a lot to unpack here)
      - they honestly think babies from other countries are healthier (excluding Russia)
      - they think chinese babies are cute, and the stereotypes associated with them are easier to deal with, on the other hand many openly said black american children were too "different" culturally and "too much" (LOT TO UNPACK HERE)
      - they want zero contact with the birth family
      - they think they are rescuing those children (especially the chinese girls)
      - they have this weird, shallow connection to what they THINK the other culture is (which will result in the child feeling alienated from their birth nation for sure and its very common)
      - again, they downplay a lot the racism asian people suffer in the USA
      - they say they want to "diversify" their families, but also say a black child wouldn't fit
So yeah, while money is kind of an issue, the race aspect is HUGE. Even when the intentions are good its still White Savior-ism. And if the price of adoption was the only issue this would be a common practice everywhere in the world, but it isn't.

This was my thought as well. If I was trying to have a kid with someone who had blonde hair and blue eyes, then yes, I'd probably look for that in a donor so that it would be as close as possible to what we would've gotten naturally. But if I'm trying with someone who is on the opposite end of the spectrum? Why the hell would I go for blonde-y here? Ew. I'm already pale enough for TWO people Thanks! (Plus I've already got the light colored eyes.....so I'd probably STILL not go for a guy like that because I've already GOT those genes)
Maybe it helps that my Aunt and Uncle adopted my two cousins and they look like their kids. My aunt is Asian, I think she's Korean to be precise, so they adopted my two cousins from Korea so that they'd share her looks. (She has a health condition that can be spread to children because it's genetic so she knew she'd never have kids of her own) and my uncle has dark hair and eyes and looks every bit their father as well.
I guess I just don't get wanting to have a child that looks Nothing like you in Any Way.

The US (if that's where you are) isn’t a majority black country and people usually want their kid to look like themselves, hence black gamete donations being less in demand. those families have to reckon with a lot. not just participating in eugenicist white supremacy, but acknowledging that white privilege is what made it so easy to not even consider that they were taking part in eugenicist white supremacy, that their large family of blonde-haired blue-eyed children of the corn are the result of white supremacy. & privilege now, i'm in no way blaming the kids for that, they had no say in the matter, and sins of the father is very apt here. but i do think that the parents really need to look at their actions in the selection process and face what they did, because they're going to need to have answers for their kids. and the longer they keep the discussion of white supremacy out of it, the more opportunities there are for that white supremacy to spread.

Its not just the men who are doing this though, its the families that are willingly engaging in eugenics.
Eugenics marginalizes groups based on assumptions of genetic superiority that are founded in systemic racism and while doing so ignores all factors that foster human development and traits such as environment.
The lack of biodiversity isn't only appalling, its damaging to the gene pool.

EDIT: Also to add it is infuriating how these parents are so picky in addition to their eugenics like why not just be happy that you can have a child at all, but noooo they have to engineer how their kid looks instead of accepting that they may have to put in effort into being good parents

Right!! This is giving similar Western Europe Eugenics as Denmark's abortion/Down Syndrome correlation. Basically Down Syndrome tests are mass available to pregnant people, and abortions are covered by the government. This has led to a shortage of resources for families/individuals with Down Syndrome because they effectively removed any new births from the population. We read about it in one of my classes around the time that my disability was becoming, well, disabling, and it has plagued my mind ever since. Highly recommend reading the Atlantic article, "The Last Children of Down Syndrome."

Also, my baby sibling was a geriatric pregnancy - and the OB kept pressuring my mom to get an abortion, because the 'risk of cognitive disability was high considering family history' and it would be 'kinder'. Almost every single appointment he brought it up. And this was in America. Its everywhere. And people REFUSE to admit its eu genics - its just 'kinder'.
Can't wait til the markers of other 'cognitive issues' get easier to spot prenatal! Really exciting for occasionally non-verbal ND people like me who are clearly problematic for the general public! Super interesting to know I'll soon be a derelict remnant of humanities weak links! Speaking as a black woman who was looking for donors at one point, what I learned is that black and brown sperm is actually and very high demand because there is a lack of them. And a lot of these companies charge double what they charge for the More “readily available” races.
There’s a lack of black donors for several reasons. First of all culturally is not some thing that we as a people know a lot about; it’s a new phenomenon for us. Secondly, to be a sperm donor, you have to have an accurate medical history of both sides of your family, which is not always available to a lot of donors. And a lot of sites require you to be college educated without a record.

This documentary really shows the level of depts people's selfishness and bias when they're given the option of having more control over the outcome of their children. It really makes you question the whole concept of unconditional love.
As someone who never wants to get pregnant and only wants to adopt, I’ve been told several times by many people, especially my own mom, that it’s a bad idea. Whenever I asked them why, I’d get one of two answers. The first is “Because having your own baby with your husband is more special.” Isn’t the choice to be a parent, in general, supposed to be special? Why should it matter whether or not a child is related to you by blood? If a kid calls me mom, then I’m their mother. It doesn’t matter whether the kid looks like me, I WILL take care of them and love them as such. The second, and most popular, answer is “You don’t know what you’re gonna get if you adopt.” Do you think Christian parents who have an atheist child got what they wanted? Do you think straight parents who have a gay child got what they wanted? Do you think able-bodied neurotypical parents who have a disabled/neurodivergent child got what they wanted? Do you think doctor/lawyer/CEO parents who have a free-lance artist/RUclipsr/streamer child got what they wanted? You NEVER know how your kid is gonna turn out. No matter how much influence and control you think you have over your child, they’ll grow up into what THEY want to be, not what YOU want. Folks who get genially disappointed when their headcannons for their kids end up not being canon are the ones who are quick to disown their kids and replace them with another kid. Which really tells you what their true intentions for having kids were.
Even folks who don’t go through all of this fertilization stuff still do weird fuck shit to get that perfect child that they want. An example of child abuse that no one talks about is parents who have several kids just to get the gender that they want. My own mom is a victim of this. She’s the oldest of 5 siblings, 4 girls and 1 boy. Take a wild guess which child ended up being the favorite? All her father (my grandpa) ever talked about was how proud he was of his son (my uncle). He’d always spoil him by buying him new clothes, bought him a car, and paid for his entire college fund. My mom’s family was very poor btw. So imagine how all the girls felt wearing raggedy hand-me-downs and getting into debt paying for their own cars and colleges while their little brother got to coast through life just because he’s the only boy. Of course, that ruined their relationship, and my grandpa is still genuinely ignorant as to why none of his kids get a long. This happens with so many families, yet nothing is ever done about it since there are no laws saying playing favorites with our kids or having more kids than you wanted just to get that one special kid while ignoring the others is illegal.
Side note: The reason Asian sperm is the 2nd most popular is because a lot of people still believe in ther stereotype that Asians are the most intelligent race. Specifically, East Asians like Japanese, Chinese, and Korean people. Also, east Asians are heavily fetishized and romanticized by white people.

So I just finished watching The Man with 1000 Kids and as usual Kennie's recommendation was spot on. I feel bad for the children when they get older they will essentially have to awkwardly tell everyone and basically DNA test everyone they come across to make sure they aren't sleeping with their relatives. My issue is with those who were aware of his views putting his "good looks" and " European features" over what is morally correct. This man is 100% in the wrong ,but he's also a weirdo, doesn't believe in science, and is giving very much 3K's. Like he seemed like a good candidate to yall???

I think unfortunately they just didn’t want to challenge or alienate the people they were interviewing and risk them backing out. Like when they didn’t mention Drake Bell’s infractions in Quiet on Set bc he was their big draw and they didn’t want to risk alienating him.

I think this opens a wider discussion about sperm/egg donation, the fertility industry, and eugenics in general. Or it should. These serial donors are 100% participating and promoting eugenics, and perhaps the recipient parents don’t think they are if they just want a donor that looks like them, but they still sort of are participating. They’re dismissing traits that they don’t desire, whether that’s race, ethnicity, nose size, whatever.
Even before photos were attached, you still selected your donor based on a written profile and personality traits. So there’s always been an element of selecting things you like, which is problematic. My uncle donated sperm for cash back in the 80s when you were anonymous (UK) and we found out a few years ago that actually he had a whole extra kid and grandkids. She didn’t know she was the result of a donation until she did ancestry. Hugely problematic. She doesn’t look anything like her family and always wondered why, but she looks like all of us!

It’s a good thing that so many of the moms found out so many of their kids were related to each other, not just because of how it allowed the lawsuit to happen, but also so their kids can know some of their siblings and have a community with each other. That being said, this whole situation just reveals how little regulation there is in the fertility industry and how this needs to be rectified with legislation in countries, and with correct oversight this wouldn’t have happened.

Fertility clinics have aways been the wild west of paternity. Back in the 70s and 80s clinics often "sweetened" a patients own sample with donor sperm to up their numbers. Often the patients had no idea. I only discovered who my real father was on 23andMe. My parents always thought my dad's sample was used, turns out it was some random unconnected donor. My mom had no idea. Imagine finding out 43 years later you were carrying a strangers baby... it's like discovering retroactive rape. And this much later, there's no recourse. I'm happy I'm alive and all but it was really destabilizing to learn. My dad died a few years before I discovered this. Finding out he wasn't my actual genetic father was like losing him all over again. I'm still working out how to feel about it.

Its the same with egg donation. I tried to donate my eggs. I needed money for college and never plan to have kids of my own. I did my research and was fully prepared. I filled out the application and realized that despite being healthy, young, and in college, I was going make hardly any money. There were questions about whether my parents had graduated college and what my race was. The highest offer was for white women and higher still for those with jewish heritage. Being brown made me a dime a dozen I suppose. It made me feel gross and I decided not to donate after that.

thats sad, do indian women look for eggs? i ask since i feel it would be weird to use and raise a persons child who didnt look like them (or their partner) for the child, more questions at a young age. but to explain why for jewish its more, as a jew, we have less than a percent in the word population and people care about continuing the line and to care where you came from, there's also a lot who beleive that is not good for intermarriage between faiths, let alone progeny. its not racism because anyone can convert and be 100% jewish without the genes, i have many frineds of different colors and creeds who did convert or their ancestors did.

Statistically college education can predict how well your kids do. Kids whose parents are college educated tend to do better in life in all areas, it's unfortunate but a real correlation.
