A few years later there is a perilous multi-terrain race and a team needs a mentor to train the team to ensure the win. His best friend recommends him and despite not wanting to get back into the cockpit of an amazing trophy truck, he's somehow put into a position to race. HAHA I'm just saying. Something like that. A full budget cinema with a great cast and a lot of powerful trucks
They do drive on roads for many parts of the course. They even get pulled over for speeding on the roads. So, yea, they are road legal in the areas that they are running and they do need to follow speed limits on roads.
I recall chasing the race one year and in the morning we came across an asian rider with his bike on the race track and asked us "where is the road". We said, "youre on it guy this is the race course." He said, "no the road to get home" (he wanted the highway). I think he was the guy that night that popped flares and his team never found him.

xcrash34x word. A log jam at a hill climb at mile 55 would set us back almost 3 hours. Broken chase vehicle on the hill climb with no possible bypass. 1132 was the only 11 to make it up with no assistance once a local got that chase off the track.
You have chase crews, once you stop refuel and maintenance they find a good part to stop for you and them and find the shortest way to get there and beat you to the point. My dad ran Baja 1000 for awhile in the class right below real trophy trucks 5 years ago. I used to track him and watch him take off all the time.
I love how Baja teams completely ignore existence of Dakar: "It's the longest desert race" "it's the hardest rally in the world" etc. Baja is cool, Baja is hard. Just not the hardest :)

Baja is not a rally! Baja is a race. Doesn't matter whether point to point or loop. Race has prerunning and uses gps to go as fast as possible. Rally is about following a paper roadbook of symbols as fast as you can without getting lost. A rally is more about navigation!

Baja you get 1 minute stops or you lose. Not bashing either, both different animals.

Just saying when my dad was the manager of the truck for the rod halls that truck would win win win, they alll finished but any truck he was in charge of and built won and was insanely durable because he over built shit.Team hummer was on the GM proving grounds and my dad worked there and built tf out of those trucks for him. He wants to do it again but no college so hes stuck just being the manager fab there at the GM proving grounds. Rod Hall and Chad Hall always fought over him and they always won..... RIP Rod youre a legend.
@@rileyomalley987 I would say the Baja 1000 is tougher in terms of performance, but Dakar is harder overall due to the extreme conditions and longer distance day after day (if you have a problem and arrive late to repair, you may not sleep for the next stage).
That was us (Warrior Built) that made that comment. We are all combat veterans. By combat I mean everyone on the team has combat action ribbons or badges. I get what you are saying but it was us troops that said it.

I don't know about Trophy's but PreRunner's are legal and are the closest thing to a trophy you will see, they are amazing too.

Yeah there's like pit stops in during the race where they can also do maintenance and stuff.

Baja is a 1000 mile nonstop loop whereas Dakar has pavement travel stages and timed repair stages
