That was on September 23rd, 1917, one of the greatest dogfights of the war on the Western Front. Before being shot down, Voss had managed to put bullets into each of his opponents, skillfully flying his Fokker Triplane against the S.E.5A fighters of No. 56 Squadron, Royal Flying Corps (RFC).

Another fun fact. Germany had bombers pre ww2 with that "dustbin" gun mount. More refined, still terrifying.
