Thanks for sharing how you make the bags! Show these responses to your family;) Of course, my family wouldn't care what I do with soap either. But I'm glad you shared this...it can be used for many other little things to show you care!
Another tip is to cut the edges of the ribbon either diagonally, into a point or into an inverted "V" - all these cuts stop it (and your nerves!) fraying. Thanks for such a brilliant tutorial.
Dorothy, this is a great tutorial. I can't imagine doing this for every bar of soap but for those special events like wedding favors or gift boxes, this is a great touch. Thank you.
Saw these at Nova Studio 10th anniversary and loved them! Great tutorial - I was able to follow along and make the bag the first time through! These will be perfect for craft shows and boutiques! Make up a bunch and store flat, then fill and secure as needed! Thanks!
An origami gift bag for soap...you are brilliant! Help for the ribbon....after you snip it....burn it with a lighter very lightly. Melts the edges together to prevent fraying....also makes it easier to insert into the holes.
Thank you so much Dorothy! I can now use up all my scrapbook paper (I went digital) and fancy paper for gift bags for my soap! The 12 x12 squares are perfect for my high tops. This is brilliant!
Very nice! I came here from the Soaping 101 facebook group. I appreciate the video, as it gives me another way of wrapping soap instead of just the cigar band. I like how you have these as "gift" bags. :) Thank you again!
So glad I found you! This is a perfect quick & easy for debut of my new soap line for Christmas. I have been at it a long time with my regular line but I have some new ones coming out for our Sweet 16th year. Thanks again!
Thank you so much Dorothy!!! You saved my life!!! I will be doing this for my up coming craft show. This looks better than the baggies!!! Thanks again. Carol :))
They are so pretty wrapped the way I learned on your video here. And I've gotten to were I make them in less than 4 minutes each. I recommend this for any soap maker. You can use wax paper, really any heavier paper...
I made a much smaller one for some lotion bars, I think It could work for the candles. Just cut your paper narrow. Try 5 inches wide and the full 11 inches long. Fold the long sides in making the pinch first in the center same as the video. This will give you a piece about 2 1/2 inches across by 11 inches long. Bring the bottom up to the top just like in the video but do not bring up as high as you did for the soap. To allow for a wider candle. Finish like the rest. See if that works.
Yes I did try velum. I had thought it would work really well. In the end I didn't like how the folds and soap with the card, showed through. It ended up looking messy. But try see if you like it.
Very nice! Is that just reg weight paper or is that a bit heavyer or card stock? thanks for this video - It was really great that you are shareing this.
This is wonderful Dorothy!! You are such a dear to share!! You know what would be cute too for those of you who may have a rustic line would be kraft paper and raffia. So many possibities! Valerie :)
What a genius idea! This looks so nice!! Where do you find your paper, or probably a better question is, what kind is it - it looks thick. I needed badly to find a way of "wrapping" my m&p soaps for when I mail them. Been using tissue & ribbon and don't think it's pretty enough. This is really classy. I "favorited" your video!
this is terrific! I have a question for you: what direction's do you give on how to take care of the soap? I'm a newbie soaper and I was interested to hear what you had listed on it. Thank you! Hugz, Tree
These are so beautiful! I have a question though. What size paper are you using and how do you figure out where to print on it to get it on the front like yours?
I am using a regular 81/2 by 11 in paper. Best way to figure out where you want to print is to make up a sample using just plain white paper. Once the bag is folded draw on the bag where you want your info to be placed and what direction. Then unfold the paper bag and measure on the paper where you drew your places. This is the area on the paper where you will print your info and make your label. I use a program called memory mixer but you could do it in word publisher just as easy. A little trial and error printing on plain paper first and you will figure out where you want it to go. Hope this helps.
Dorothy Martin One more Question...you say paper...is it card stock? I have tried it with regular paper and seems too thin but it looks like you are making it with cardstock?
Lissa Holliday IT is a 28lb paper so just a little bit heavier than regular paper but not as heavy as cardstock. I order my paper from www.paper-papers.com/fiber-paper.html it is the fiber paper 28/70lb hope this helps
Thanks for sharing Dorthy (*-*) Do you use a business card to do your "thanx" ? Love this whole idea ! Just curious what instructions you give to people to make sure they dry their soap after use to increase bar life? My customers buy them 5 @ at time. I just thought they Really liked my soap. I'm now guessing they may be going through it too quickly? Thanks again for sharing your talent !
Thank you for watching. Yes I have my business info on the one side and on the other side It says-Thank you for purchasing a Bare Tree Soap. Handmade soap retains more moisture than other soaps. To extend the life or your handcrafted soap, place it in a well draining soap dish. Keep any unused bars in a cool, dry place. Yes some customers go through them much faster than others but it just depends on personal showering styles. Some lather a whole lot more than others which uses the bars faster. Good for us right!!
What type of paper should we use? I know you said there were a lot but I have no idea which one. I was thinking construction paper but I don't think that's right lol. But, this is such a great idea! Thank you for sharing! :)
+lolawinie Thank you for taking the time to watch the video. I use a paper that is just a little heavier than regular copy paper. You can buy a 24lb weight copy paper at Walmart that would work fine. Cardstock would be to heavy unless it is the lighter weight type of cardstock. Heavier paper works its just harder to fold if you are doing a lot, it gets tiresome. Hope that helps
It took me two tries to get it right but once you have it, it's very simple. Thanks so much for sharing this!
Thanks for sharing how you make the bags! Show these responses to your family;)
Of course, my family wouldn't care what I do with soap either. But I'm glad you shared
this...it can be used for many other little things to show you care!
What a beautiful way to wrap handmade soap bars!
Dorothy, you are a most excellent teacher!
Another tip is to cut the edges of the ribbon either diagonally, into a point or into an inverted "V" - all these cuts stop it (and your nerves!) fraying. Thanks for such a brilliant tutorial.
I am going to use my scrapbook Christmas paper and do a bunch of these for the holiday boutique I will be participating in. Awesome!
Dorothy, this is a great tutorial. I can't imagine doing this for every bar of soap but for those special events like wedding favors or gift boxes, this is a great touch. Thank you.
What a great idea...Just saw Ruth Esteves' post & she gave me the link. Thanks so much for sharing.
Great video and good easy to follow demonstration. I knew you would get that ribbon tied! :) Thank you!
I have finally figured it out...lol after a whole lot of crumpled paper...lol Thank you so much really love this.
Thanks for a cool way to make gift bags for soaps.

Thank you so much Dorothy! I can now use up all my scrapbook paper (I went digital) and fancy paper for gift bags for my soap! The 12 x12 squares are perfect for my high tops. This is brilliant!

Great idea thanks for sharing this. :)
wow!!!!! thanks!!!
Really cute and great tutorial. What type of paper stock are you using?
I am using a 28 pound paper in the video but any kind will work. A heavy cardstock is just a little harder to fold but can also be used
Sorry so long to reply, have been away. The paper was a 28lb paper. Just a little bit heavier than a cheap copy paper it that helps.
What kind of paper is it? Cardboard or gift wrap or copy paper?
