Actually, most fans were sick of Stelena and the "epic" love story by season two. We had Stefan/Elena for four very long and drawn out seasons (years). The writers constantly shoved Stelena in our faces.

Did she forget she ever loved him, yet kept saying how much she cares about him and loves him etc? and then became a drug addict when damon died (the drugs weren't the issue that bothered me, but just her obsessive behaviour and the way she acted). Lets not even get started that she was so indifferent with Bonnies death. Writers really messed up the whole show trying to please the fans and Nina leaving put the final touch on the trainwreck😂 I mean the writers were always publicly team stelena, no wonder delena never worked out the way it could've. It just got so boring and obsessive. Even Damon and Bonnie had more chemistry by the end of season 6
@@frikadell I honestly agree so much. Even though I felt even Delena's friendship was toxic as well, but Elena at least had some self worth and an identity. She became more and more broken as she became "consumed" by Damon. I mean even though Damon was all about physically saving Elena, his methods destroyed Elena emotionally and psychologically. He damaged her to the point she ACCEPTED his behaviour, role as just 'being Damon.' She stopped trying to lay down some boundaries with him because he was useful in the beginning NOT understanding that Damon was getting more out of this then she was. He was literally getting his jollies off just being around her, because of her resemblance to Katherine. Beyond that, everything IMPORTANT to Elena was white noise to him.
I think though, because of who she was, Elena would never be in a functional relationship with Damon. Her understanding of Damon came from understanding Stefan. Stefan used love as well as his guilt etc. To push his own limits. Love for humanity, humans, Elena, Damon etc. He evolved because he understand love in it's purest form. He tried and used it to be more than a vampire. Damon never had that problem? He actually loves being a vampire. Two, even when he loves he's awful LOL Three Damon is emotionally unstable and has low tolerance. He cannot carry the burden of emotions long enough to motivate him most of the time LOL I mean his..outbursts? Yikes. Elena to her detriment romanticized or I'd say generalised Damon's personality. She believed that "love" could motivate him to be a better person - "that's not me, Elena. That's Stefan." She thought loving another can motivate you to move mountains and discard toxicity and dysfunction. Elena could ignore this, or choose not to see the parts of Damon that didn't fit her world theory.
This came crashing down when she became his girlfriend. The very fact, Damon could CONTROL her views on everything INCLUDING on herself fostered a new mutant delusions she had about Damon and her own influence. Nothing made sense except Damon..to her..and even SHE could see he didn't actually make sense. She was imprisoned by Damon's desire and relied on the idea he loved her to do right by her...such a toxic cycle.

But Elena cheated on Stefan when she kissed Damon in Season 2. That’s why I can’t ship Stelena. If she really loved Stefan she wouldn’t have done that x

Delena was amazing in the first 3 seasons, when it was "forbidden" and scandalous for them to be together, ya know? Also, the fact that Ian & Nina broke up in real life as their characters are getting together on screen didn't help I feel. Also also, Stelena just felt like a healthier, more complete couple and I also enjoyed heartbroken (season 1) Damon more. Reading the books rn and they're amazing so far. Definitely recommend

It doesn’t help that the way they wrote Damon was basically romanticizing his abusive behaviour. He compelled Andie and Caroline into a relationship, making any consent null and void. He also frequently threatened Bonnie and Jeremy and even killed Jeremy at one point, which is something Stefan thankfully brought up in season 4 when Elena was bitching about the fact that Stefan was seeing Rebekah, someone who tried to kill her and successfully did once. Damon got so many passes for being an awful person, most especially by Elena and even she became more and more selfish and annoying the longer she was with Damon.
I was definitely a fan of the "forbidden" because who would actually sleep with brothers? (I'm lookin at you Katherine). History shows when the forbidden characters actually do get together, that tension we all live for goes away and the show tanks. So when Delena actually got together, I was like, "girl what is you doing!?"🤣 And then Elena got so annoying, I was like, "you fellas don't need this drama in your life." And the same with Bamon. I wanted some really hot, angry, forbidden sex but then for Bonnie to kick him to the curb because she definitely didn't need that drama in her life. So glad there are fan fictions to let me live out my fantasies.

Give me one single instance when Stefan hurt someone intentionally with his humanity switch on. He was never himself when he did something wrong. It was either humanity off or his ripper side on, which both situations obviously not under his control.
While Demon being worst in either of his versions. I am big fan of Ian. Damon rocks as anti hero. Loved his character from the beginning. What made his character worst was showing his villainous nature into a heroic one just coz Damon looks so much hotter than Stefan.

Let's be real here, the people who like Delena are in 'Teen Fantasy Land' regarding relationships. It was a truly toxic and unsettling situation, whereas Stefan and Elena have a healthier, beautiful connection. I've been married twenty years, honey. Damon was far better for her than Stefan. Stefan was better suited for Caroline. With Stefan, she took his word as gospel, she was more judgmental of people, and became very hypocritical. Stefan may have loved her, and that love may have helped her get overher parents death. But with Damon, he taught her to be free, to live life, to truly love. He was someone that fully had her back. THAT is a real relationship. Not the fairytale shite of Stelena. Love should be unconditional - which Damon offered. Unfortunately, it takes a while for people to understand that. Love doesn't mean a perfect match. Also love doesn't stay stagnant like it did with Stelena, it grows, it becomes more.

I’m pretty late to the vd game, and I kind of already know what happens because the show has been out for forever. But I absolutely adore Stefan. He’s always there, he’s selfless, gentle, kind, he loves so deeply. Watching stelena is like watching a truly healthy relationship. I know Damon can be suave and the forbidden love trope can be hot, but I’m not looking forward to it :( he’s done so much to hurt her and it’s not realistic that she would keep forgiving him. Especially after he tried to kill jeremy without knowing he was wearing his magical ring. Like that got overlooked and forgiven too quickly imo. He’s a toxic man child who takes things too far when he doesn’t get what he wants. (At least so far, I’m only one s3)

The first time i watched TVD, i was so hooked onto the show. i loved stefan and elena together, and although i didn't like their breakup, it was the fact that there was a twist in the show that made me like damon and elena together. this woman went from being with the younger brother to getting together with the older brother. it made the show interesting.
But having watched a 2nd a 3rd time, in my opinion, i can say that stelena is miles better. we all have our opinions, but i really think the people who root for delena, and stick to it, have only watched the show once.
I honestly think this is why there are so many people who like delena. most people only watch shows once. not everyone has time to watch 150 episodes twice.
For people, it doesn't matter what happened between stefan and elena in s1 and 2 (the 2 best seasons btw).
At the end of season 3, and during s4 5 6, it was mainly damon and elana, and mainly them 2 fighting, breaking up, getting trapped in other worlds, and erasing memories of each other lol.
You cant root for delena based on what happened in the show. You can root for them because you like damons looks, or you like when someone takes a lad's big brother.
But you're lying if you say damon and elena together made the show better.

Honestly after I got a boyfriend that was as sweet, caring and calm as Stephan (at least season 1 the most), I appreciated stelena a lot more and disliked the toxicities of delena and wasn’t feeling their ship like I did as a teen. Elena herself was always a little annoying to me though lol

Honestly, I don't like Stelena, but I hate Delena with a passion. That's why I watched this. I agree with him about hating Delena because every episode is about their stupid toxic relationship.
If I lived in a perfect world, my TVD couples would be:
1. Bamon (Bonnie & Damon) -> They had better chemistry than Delena & to the Delena supporters...I don't care if you think they were meant to be strictly platonic because in the books they are in a full blown relationship and that should've happened in the show.
2. Steroline (Caroline & Stefan)
3. Elejah (Elena & Elijah)
I will say that Klaroline (Klaus & Caroline) can also exist in my world, but only if Steroline had got more than twenty seconds of marriage before they killed off Stefan.
I totally agree with you although I don’t remember most of Elena and Elijah’s moments. I’d just rather she ends up with anyone than the Salvatore brothers.
