    Mooney 262/252 family airplanes have only slightly more horsepower than a Cessna 172 or Piper Cherokee. This plane has impressive performance, even at higher altitudes. It can achieve almost 1NM per horsepower.
    We flew this plane to 17,500ft to see the performance. The plane reached altitude sooner than we expected and performed almost to book numbers.
    In this video we also share some valuable tips for flying in non-pressurized planes.

    I have owned a Mooney 231/“262” since 2008 and couldn’t be happier. The only difference is the 252 is a 28V system, and the “262” is a 14V Mooney 231 but with all the 252 hardware. I’ve heard not all the “262”s have all the 252 hardware, but mine does, with the TSIO-360MB engine, dual alternators, backup vac, 252 cowling with variable cowl flaps, speed brakes,gap seals, inner and outer gear doors, and other mods I probably don’t even know about. Why the previous owners went to such trouble I will never know, but it’s all to my benefit. With a 115 cu-ft O2 tank I can go high, and even though I have been to FL210, I prefer to fly between 15k and 17k which is above 99% of the piston GA and below all the turbine. A turbocharged ‘teens’ plane owns the airspace, there is nobody else cruising there! The 252 “262” engine is a superb turbo, cylinder head temps stay between 350 and 380F, and my biggest problem is trying to keep the oil temp above 145. Put on a ST 3-blade prop and got an extra 100-200 gpm climb, and no loss in cruise speed. I fly regularly San Francisco to the Canadian border in 4 hours, 12 gpm, 170 kts, 65% power at 16,000’. I pick up ice every summer at some point flying through some clouds, but almost always exit icing before having to alter altitude.

      Appreciate the welcome back. The automatic wastegate solved the overheating issues of the previous GB model engine.

    You showed my comment to your earlier video, that was a surprise, But I’m curious to know why the seller is replacing the Mooney with a Cirrus, another high performance four place piston single.

      Thank you for your comments. I don't know his personal reasons, but we also own Cirrus SR22 aircraft and two advantages that I see are the parachute and full glass panel avionics including an advanced autopilot. SR22T is a great plane, but costs a few times more than this plane.

      I bet it is just newer with a larger cabin and a parachute, or? fixed gear?

    • @aerolife1646
      @aerolife1646  3 месяца назад

      That's a good point, the SR22 is a fixed gear plane. But it still produces very good speeds with the streamlined design.

      Yes, we sold it a few years ago. He recently upgraded to a Cirrus SR22T so we are listing this for him.

    So what makes a 252 a 262?

    • @aerolife1646
      @aerolife1646  3 месяца назад +1

      The 252, 262 and Encore planes are very similar. They have some differences such as 252 has two gear speeds and 28V system. Also, 252 is a factory set up and 262 is a conversion. Fairly close performance. 252 and 262 are both great planes. Considering the price difference, 262 is a popular airplane.

      You are correct, they are inexpensive. In the video it says “inexpensive”. The word wasn't very clear and may have sounded like “expensive”. If you use captions you can see it. We will pay more attention to the audio in the future.

    And everything with a turbo has a waste gate 😄

    • @aerolife1646
      @aerolife1646  3 месяца назад

      This plane has a fully automatic wastegate which keeps the maximum MP at 36”. That’s why we don’t worry about overboosting the engine. Previous models you need to monitor the manifold pressure, especially on cold day takeoff to make sure you do not to exceed 40” and overboost. You must manually limit the MP in the 231 and it's trickier to fly, particularly to get maximum engine power out of it, than the 252, 262 and Encore.
