Komatsu PC8000-6 build at KCGM

Northern Star recently welcomed a new PC8000-6 into the Open Pit at KCGM. The shovel was purchased to support growth and extend KCGM’s Life of Mine to 2034.
Too big to transport fully assembled, the shovel was built on-site at KCGM over two months with great collaboration between our team and Komatsu. We filmed the entire assembly process so you can watch it being built from the ground up.
Next time you are at the Super Pit Lookout, see if you can spot this impressive machine at work. Weighing 750 tonnes and reaching over 13 metres long, this mammoth shovel is hard to miss.

Similar horsepower to a locomotive. Imagine doing the first start up to get it running, testing, then tear down to ship it. Pretty amazing.
