As an old school Chinese fan, seeing WE in semi-finals makes me happier than seeing RNG winning, despite the latter being the better team. Team WE gave us so much in season 2 and 3, only to fall and become irrelevant for so many years. It is truly heartening to see team WE in semi-finals, even if they are going to be eliminated by SSG. Kog is eminently beatable, they smashed Mystic on Kog in one of the earlier games. It's the Janna ult and shield that won it for WE more than anything, watch the 22 minute engage, Mystic was nearly vaporized, but because C9 was just a little slow and forward out of position on the micro, Janna gets the shield, Kog lives, and WE snowballs after that. ( 32:35 ).
Kog is beatable, but only if you can put him behind in the early game. If by the time KogMaws support completes their Ardent Censer kogmaw isnt far behind the otherr adc, then you're most likely guaranteed a loss, because his damage with Rageblade and his range with W are simply ridiculous.
TBH right now trsit kog cait twitch xya are all good late game carry. But only kog doesn't have a escape tool, if he get caught he automatically dies. In order to save the kog, look at how many aegis WE got lol.
yeah i get that, cait is missing the main thing that IMO makes a hyper carry a late game machine, and thats the attack speed steroid, trist q, xayah w etc, C9 lost with cait early in the series, and WE clearly had kog as almost a #1 priority, as a champ for their main focus player, makes no sense to not ban it IMO
Ye, usually as a cait you only beat those champions if you get a lead early, or if you teamfight better than the opponent. At pro play the second point is largely overshadowed by the first one (of course team composition also plays a huge role)
Totally Agree, Cait is supposed to take the bot Turret in 10 mins like they did at G1. But after Naer taking the first Turret, this game is already over, 22:00 mark, Kog take all the damage C9 could offer and survived. Actually I would say the game ends at draft pick when WE take Galio. Because the best lineup of WE which they have played thousand times in LPL is Janna+Kog+Galio. They are insurmountable and Galio could also protect the bot lane.
I gotta say this years MSF vs SKT quarterfinals is what truly got me to start loving pro play. I'm now a MSF fan, and I'm confident they will just get better and better!
Misfits and C9 exceeded expectations, but sad that neither could get that vital game 5 win. Longzhu for sure disappointed. I didn't know what to expect out of Fnatic but most of the games were super close.
That Shen was forced to buy damage items to match the Gnar and still couldn't. As a result he wasn't tanky enough in teamfights. The Gnar pick was the unsung hero of WE.

Because there is already a whole stadium and big team of Chinese comentators being biased towards the chinese team. C9 being the underdog, we would have liked to see them make it through too.
In part, it's because they're more familiar with NA and EU, since they regularly broadcast for those regions, on the other hand, they don't realise this English broadcast is watched world wide and they, for the most part, keep doing it for an NA and EU audience in mind. The previous year, 2018, they improved that approach.
@@flscemoi From what I can see, 957 already beat Impact in lane, in the split-push and he took down 2 turrets at top lane, when Impact barely had built Titanic and Ninja Tabi boots, in mid game, Xiye's Galio was the biggest threat, he even protected the top turret in a 1v2, while Mystic's Kog'maw was still scaling, from this point WE only sieged turrets as a team, starting with the bot lane, so, there wasn't more Gnar Vs Shen fights, Impact was pushing the minion waves and then avoiding any fight, then, he started to build Adaptive Helm. C9 WE could've picked early game kills, but, WE were still farming well, they didn't lost objectives, they took objectives and 957 top lane push also helped greatly to keep the gold equal. WE like to scale, even this year, they still do that in the LPL, a team could be able to do something against them in the early game, but, will they be able to stop them before they can reach the late game? That's the thing, if they don't, they just proceed to destroy the other team just like they did against C9 in this set 5.

They said it because of the format used in LPL/LCK rift rivals. Korean teams may drop a game or two but it is incredibly hard to take a BO5 off of them. Their BO5 record speaks for itself.
Rift Rivals 2017 was the early sign of what it was coming and although, no LPL team managed to win this World Championship, All Star 2017 continued to show the LPL was only improving and then, we saw what happened at MSI 2018, Asian Games, Rift Rivals 2018 and WC 2018. Sadly, the previous year All Star was changed to just be a show event.

Caitlyn is fine. They did fine in lane and went up 5-0 in kills. The big problem was the Gnar on the other side of the map. Everything C9 did to win bot lane was countered by towers falling top and mid. Despite the kills, they never got a gold lead because they left towers undefended in order to pursue those kills, and towers are worth more gold than kills. So WE got the snowball rolling, but C9 couldn't.
Reaperd: lets not ban Kog. Its mystics go to champ and he's the best player on their team. We are also not going to pick it away from him and we are going to pick the worst ADC in the game. Any questions?

Kalista is the strongest ADC, she's permabanned for a reason. Tristana is more consistent in my opinion (when accounting for SOLOQ as well) but Kalista has these pros shook

I agree with you that Tristana is the second best adc you could get.(Kalista is the best) But if u watch a lot Chinese LPL matches, you will find out that the best matchup of WE is Kog+Galio+Janna. One reason that C9 lost the series is that Sneaky cant handle Kog, otherwise, you first pick Kog leaving Mystic with only Caitlyn.
C9 threw so hard lmao. Terrible pick/ ban phase aside, their teamfighting was greedy and uncoordinated. They repeatedly blew everything on a caught out tank only to keep trying to fight anyway & lose. Instead of collapsing on janna or kog, they play defensive to WEs front line & get torn apart by mystic. They had to be aggressive but only played into WEs engages. If they can't learn from their mistakes, there's no way they deserve to win.
Honestly why the F would u pick Cait when you got so wrecked G1 vs that kog? Mystic is too strong with that kog.. why not ban it? So many things I don't understand here!
Firstly, they picked Cait because she punishes kogmaw early game by hard shoving the turret and grabbing an early gold lead. Cait also should bully kogmaw in laning phase by abusing her ridiculous range. The pick ban wasn't that bad tbh, WE just protected their bot lane better
I agree with Josh Geng: Cait is for the early game. theoretical, Cait should be able to take the first turret in 8-12 mins (C9 did it at the first game), and take the other turrets in 20-25 mins building a 5-7k gold leading. and actually, if C9 didn't make that mistake at 20 mins before Baron born, they would take that game. But WE's reaction of picking Galio is gorgeous. Instead of picking another late-game champ like Corki or Cho'Gath . they choose Galio to protect the bottom lane and Naer to counter shen and keeping him in the lane. When C9 pick these champs, I already know they would lose the game. Because there is no way that C9 could fight against WE at the late game. Even though they choose Orianna(They pick Sol at the first game, but they realise that Sol is not as competitive as Galio with respect to supporting and they need to guarantee their late-game competition), but it is still not enough. At 22 mins, Kog takes all the damage that C9 could offer including ORIANNA'S shockwave and survived!!!!!!! that's unbelievable. And dont blame C9 for this kind of pick/ban, just like you said, they already know that it is to difficult to win a 5v5-40mins fighting against WE, so you can only make it through early game strategy. C9 has tried their best and pushed WE to edge of cliff, they lose the game and earn respect, FAR MORE BETTER THAN TSM. BTW, the second round when TSM vs WE, WE also selected this Cait-early-game lineup, and TSM selected all late-game champ, lost the game at the end.
But leaving kogmaw open means C9 is OBLIGATED to presure bot and put that KogMaw behind, yet they leave botlane open to ganks and end up being the ones pressured for most of it. thats simply stupid. First of all, instead of Orianna they had to pick another roaming midlaner, why not Aurelion Sol or Taliyah again? even a Fizz like SKT would have been much better. Second, they should have picked a toplaner capable of staying alive on his own so that their jungler could have put all their effort into warding the red side of WE and pressuring bot. Instead they pick in a position where whenever they put pressure bot, top just pushes unstopably, that while their ganks bot dont even work. One thing is losing a game because the other team played better, but losing a game from champ select is simply frustrating. not to them, but to us fans watching.
Honestly this game should have been over game 4. Why ban the Caitlyn over Kog when you just showed you can totally shut WE down early. C9 had everything in their favor but threw game 4 and 5 away with their draft. When you knowingly give the opposing team their best champions you're playing one step behind before the game even starts. No one cares that C9 took WE to game 5. They just care that another NA team didn't make it out of the quarters for yet another year.
C9 lost this in draft, Kog, Janna and Galio. And they banned a non champ in Rumble. And then decided that they can win with a single marksman against Galio , Jensen could have gone Lucian but nope did not think of that as well. Misfits did well against skt (even though skt played the worst they have in forever) and c9 did well against WE (even with their horrid pick/ban phase in game 5). NA won rift rivals easily and EU had an extra team in worlds quarterfinals. Calm down.

No doubt the South Korean team is very strong, maybe you all think WE will be lost to the next SSG, but the charm of the game is not you can imagine, like MSF and SKT this game, you have thought that MSF will 2-3 regret Lost to SKT? Have you ever thought that MSF will play so well? In fact, you will not feel that MSF0-3 lose to SKT if everything is like you imagine that the trophy directly to the SKT just fine, but also playing what game? Regardless of winning or losing, we should give the applause to our support team, not to blame them to lose the game, they need more support, it is so simple.
C9 lost this game when Gallio got picked. Gallio is 10/14 in worlds, 2 of the loses coming from 1907 fenerbahçe against SSG and Gigabyte Marines against longzhu. Gallio is so absurdly strong, it fits perfectly with kog Jana, and counters the Caitlyn strategy of pushing bot down fast. I don't care how strong 957 is on rumble, you have to ban Gallio if you want to play this style of game.
So based off the comments if you can't handle kog banning would be absurd cause there better adc, but if you can't handle singed he's worth the ban.....
Kog can be beaten if you play to your win condition, which is win early, don't allow it to reach late game where he will catch up and surpass your damage. This is not easy to do though as C9 found out. They did it right in the first game. They got a 10k gold lead, but had a bad teamfight which let WE back in, and then Kog reached his item spikes and took over the game. C9 went with another game 1 strategy but it didn't work this time. They couldn't establish an early lead because the Gnar was too much to handle.
I don't understand idiots who blame Reapered for the draft here. Leaving Kog'Maw open was not the problem, leaving Galio open was. Picking Caitlyn was questionable as well, but these Gold 3 analysts blaming it all on Kog'Maw is nonsense.
Just a reminder that he had the upper hand in about 3 of the 5 drafts in this series. There was obviously a disconnect during the last draft phase, but blaming it all on Reapered and asking for his head is stupid.

C9 threw so hard lmao. Terrible pick/ ban phase aside, their teamfighting was greedy and uncoordinated. They repeatedly blew everything on a caught out tank only to keep trying to fight anyway & lose. Instead of collapsing on janna or kog, they play defensive to WEs front line & get torn apart by mystic. They had to be aggressive but only played into WEs engages.
If they can't learn from their mistakes, there's no way they deserve to win.
Why did it take 5 games though? This series should've been more simple for WE.

Firstly, they picked Cait because she punishes kogmaw early game by hard shoving the turret and grabbing an early gold lead. Cait also should bully kogmaw in laning phase by abusing her ridiculous range. The pick ban wasn't that bad tbh, WE just protected their bot lane better
I agree with Josh Geng: Cait is for the early game.
theoretical, Cait should be able to take the first turret in 8-12 mins (C9 did it at the first game), and take the other turrets in 20-25 mins building a 5-7k gold leading. and actually, if C9 didn't make that mistake at 20 mins before Baron born, they would take that game.
But WE's reaction of picking Galio is gorgeous. Instead of picking another late-game champ like Corki or Cho'Gath . they choose Galio to protect the bottom lane and Naer to counter shen and keeping him in the lane.
When C9 pick these champs, I already know they would lose the game. Because there is no way that C9 could fight against WE at the late game. Even though they choose Orianna(They pick Sol at the first game, but they realise that Sol is not as competitive as Galio with respect to supporting and they need to guarantee their late-game competition), but it is still not enough. At 22 mins, Kog takes all the damage that C9 could offer including ORIANNA'S shockwave and survived!!!!!!! that's unbelievable.
And dont blame C9 for this kind of pick/ban, just like you said, they already know that it is to difficult to win a 5v5-40mins fighting against WE, so you can only make it through early game strategy. C9 has tried their best and pushed WE to edge of cliff, they lose the game and earn respect, FAR MORE BETTER THAN TSM.
BTW, the second round when TSM vs WE, WE also selected this Cait-early-game lineup, and TSM selected all late-game champ, lost the game at the end.

But leaving kogmaw open means C9 is OBLIGATED to presure bot and put that KogMaw behind, yet they leave botlane open to ganks and end up being the ones pressured for most of it. thats simply stupid. First of all, instead of Orianna they had to pick another roaming midlaner, why not Aurelion Sol or Taliyah again? even a Fizz like SKT would have been much better. Second, they should have picked a toplaner capable of staying alive on his own so that their jungler could have put all their effort into warding the red side of WE and pressuring bot. Instead they pick in a position where whenever they put pressure bot, top just pushes unstopably, that while their ganks bot dont even work.
One thing is losing a game because the other team played better, but losing a game from champ select is simply frustrating. not to them, but to us fans watching.
Honestly this game should have been over game 4. Why ban the Caitlyn over Kog when you just showed you can totally shut WE down early. C9 had everything in their favor but threw game 4 and 5 away with their draft. When you knowingly give the opposing team their best champions you're playing one step behind before the game even starts. No one cares that C9 took WE to game 5. They just care that another NA team didn't make it out of the quarters for yet another year.

And then decided that they can win with a single marksman against Galio , Jensen could have gone Lucian but nope did not think of that as well. Everyone flaming eachother when c9 did fine. I love the EU>NA NA>EU LULULULUL. Calm down. Both regions did okay and are about the same skill wise. Misfits did well against skt (even though skt played the worst they have in forever) and c9 did well against WE (even with their horrid pick/ban phase in game 5). NA won rift rivals easily and EU had an extra team in worlds quarterfinals. Calm down.
I don't get all the hate. EU and NA both did well in quarterfinals and really challenged the CN/KR teams for the first time in awhile.

C9 lost this game when Gallio got picked. Gallio is 10/14 in worlds, 2 of the loses coming from 1907 fenerbahçe against SSG and Gigabyte Marines against longzhu. Gallio is so absurdly strong, it fits perfectly with kog Jana, and counters the Caitlyn strategy of pushing bot down fast. I don't care how strong 957 is on rumble, you have to ban Gallio if you want to play this style of game.

So based off the comments if you can't handle kog banning would be absurd cause there better adc, but if you can't handle singed he's worth the ban.....
Kog can be beaten if you play to your win condition, which is win early, don't allow it to reach late game where he will catch up and surpass your damage. This is not easy to do though as C9 found out.
They did it right in the first game. They got a 10k gold lead, but had a bad teamfight which let WE back in, and then Kog reached his item spikes and took over the game.
C9 went with another game 1 strategy but it didn't work this time. They couldn't establish an early lead because the Gnar was too much to handle.
