Mark Cuban is spot on. When you have nothing and no obligations is the perfect time to start a business. I took a chance at 29 years old after a black eye, a bad break up and living with my parents again. I had a marketable skill and turned it into a lifestyle. Get out of the thinking phase and get into the doing phase!

There is no guaranteed formula for creating a successful business.
It depends on the resources available to you, both free and paid.
It depends on the skills and experiences you bring to the table.
It depends on the networking connections you've made during your life.
Starting a business is complex and although there are several good recommendations to get started towards that goal, no one can give a universal formula that will always work.

25 years, near start of my career, I was at an HotSos conference where Mark was the guest speaker. Smaller conference and Mark was not so famous. The story I recall is Mark said he was a bartender and someone offered him a job to sell software. The software took off (early spreadsheet software stuff) and he was the only salesman. Mark made millions on the commissions and put this money into HD Net which was the only high definition TV technology that was available for the new TVs. I dunno, if my memory is accurate, but sure doesn't match what it is portrayed today along with the PR companies the billionaires hire to inflate their image. I don't get the dishonesty/delusion that seems to go along with how those who are "successful" became "successful". Anyone know the real story about Mark to set me straight? The other clue to his gift as a "salesman" was Mark saying a lawyer and career politician knows something about entrepreneurship. Unless perhaps corruption is at the heart of it.

What does the US do the best compared to other nations? We have the best PLATFORM. The constitution with its rule of law and the historic commitment to education and a decent infrastructure (both of which have eroded significantly, unfortunately) create a platform, a foundation upon which you can build your business. It's like the Internet: it's simply a platform. It's like AWS: it's simply a platform. The US has the best platform. If we lose that, gulp.

screw the shark tank guy selling junk. People's attitudes suck. They think they're mistake is not buying real estate soon enough and someone else bought it and they lost money. But that's only because the banks on are chinese crack. I hate that attitude because it's like thinking that because you didn't buy a million dollar you didn't become a virtuoso violinist. It's funny because the first construction job I worked was a project that 4 builders went broke on first, and my Dad bought it on a deal and there were three houses that had slope stability problems on it sliding down a hill. I had to shovel silt every fucking day to keep the job open because it would rain and go overtop the silt fence and fill the street and sidewalk. And my Dad had the our attitude was why did we buy this shit. It's because no one else would do it. We had some other houses that Delonte West's mother looked at that were like that. My Dad bout them drunk for a deal, and the brick layers and everyone was complaining about having to climb up a down the hill. Or in general no one is concerned about their abilities or if they make someone good or do something good. They don't care about value added. Everyone just wants to flip crap or sell chinese crap, or play shark tank. It's not a value added economy where you by lumber and turn it into furniture. People just want to buy lumber and then sell lumber. Everyone wants to be Bezos or Mark Cuban buying basketball video and then selling basketball video.
