The story loosely goes that Vlad the Impailer (Alucard) was given to the Ottomans (Turks) by his father to not invade Wallacia. During this peirod he was constantly raped and extremely mistreated. This is the "10 years of rape" Alucard refers too when talking to God. Also if you remember in a past episode Alucard tells Walter his three favorite things to kill were Nazis, Turks and number one was his father, now you can see why.
Another great reaction, hope you're both staying safe in these crazy times. One love!

Should also be noted that, though he was a christian, he was prosecuted by the church and ultimately killed as a heretic so they could get his territory. Most of the most gory stories about Vlad the Impaler (Vlad Tepes III) like him drinking blood or making others eat the remains of his father were written by his enemies but in reality he brought certain stability to the region (although, even after taking the throne from his father, he had to fight his relatives who were constantly trying to take power away from him through his life, in fact, I think one of his relatives with ambitions to become pope was what led to his death if I remember right).
Yes he did impale people, that is true, but he was waging psychological warfare. This is not justifying it but explaining his reasoning. He ruled a tiny region which 2 world powers wanted because it granted them land access to each other making them able to mobilize armies without boats, he couldn't just attack nor use regular defense tactics against those odds. He didn't impale his countrymen left and right, he impaled soldiers from invading armies(mainly the Ottomans) so future invaders would lose the will to fight, or at least some morale, before actually having to engage them. Anyway, if you go to Romania he is held as a hero.
Just wanted to add to your comment, the guy had a crazy life and it's kinda sad how villanized he's become.

The Way Restriction Level Zero Works is that it, as stated, purges Alucard of everyone and thing he has ever eaten to act as an undead army, which is why the Dandy Man and Rip Van Winkle were there, as he ate them both, it also removes all limits on his power. On the Downside, using it removes his near immortality due to not having any souls left inside him to die in his place, though he is FAR more durable because of it.

Note: this all I'll say is from the perspective of THE SHOW, and not actual history; though the story is pretty much the same, some details are changed.
Vlad the Impaler was sold as a political prisoner to the Ottoman Turks when he was a child; basically his father gave him to the Turks to keep as proof that he wouldn't rebel against them so they would allow him to keep his lands.
During captivity he was treated horribly because he didn't want to betray his God and didn't want to convert to Islam; he was beaten, starved, tortured and raped; eventually he was freed when suspicions no longer existed about his father's loyalty.
His next step was pretty obvious: murdered his father, took the position of leader of Walachia and started an all out war against the Turks, paying back what he had suffered _manifold_ , destroying cities and executing them by the thousands. Eventually his Holy War got so bloody that his own faith, the Christians, betrayed him and executed him, denouncing him as an agent of the devil.
This was so horribly unfair in his eyes that he accepted to sell his soul to the Devil in his last moments, becoming a vampire and turning into the monster we know and love. That's why he is so angry at God in here.
Also, I suppose the Abridged implies that Alucard acts like a psychopath because he has lived so long and has so many literal voices inside of his head of all the people he has eaten. When he pushes everything out and reverts back to the soul of the original Vlad, instead, he becomes a well spoke, calm and respectable noble man.

A side note. The reference of Alucard saying it felt like years was a reference to this episode taking so long to come out. Up until then, Takahata101 had been releasing episodes on or around Halloween on his own channel, then TFS took over and wrapped it up quick. Walter's motives gets revealed in the next episode, but yes, he's the next foe up to bat. And it's a ride and a half too. And as for Alucard's beef with God, is back when he was Vlad Teppesch, he was abandoned after years of abuse and fighting in his name, only to have Satan heed his call for aid. So from his viewpoint, the almighty left him out to fry, while the bad guy showed up to lend a helping hand. That's basically it. Alucard is Dracula, he's just a "modernized" version to better relate to the current world. But the drastic seperation of the 2 is a TFS creation. In the original, I don't think it was anywhere near this drastic between the 2.

The fight between Anderson's and Alucard at the end is much more complex then they could explain in an abridged version but what happens near the end is really cool so I thought I'd explain to the best of my ability. Dracula knows he is monster. He considers himself to be scum and worthless for he was to weak to accept his humanity; to him this means he must be killed by human being. When Anderson takes out the nail he is committing the same sin by forsaking his humanity in order to gain the strength to defeat Alucard which is why Alucard is angry when Anderson stabs the nail into his heart. In the original there is no conversation between him and God. He actually begins to lose the fight and Seras steps in and trys to help him which reminds him of his own will to live or something I'm unsure on that part.
Also fun tid bit. He kills most vampires by ripping their heart out in the original it's not a new thing to him.

I highly recommend watching the actual episode for this. It's difficult to write in a simple youtube comment how the episode and manga does at explaining in this episode, how Alucard truly feels about himself, his purpose, and why he does what he does. Essentially, Anderson and Alucard want the exact same thing; They both seek to destroy monsters and protect humans. Yet they are on opposing sides. Alucard respects humans because they are finite and weak yet have the will to live on. In the anime Alucard makes a comment basically saying that he became a monster because he was so weak he could not bare the weight of a human life. When Anderson gave up that humanity to fight him, Alucard took the gloves off. Fun Fact: The ebony gun that Alucard wields in his left hand is called the Jackel. It was the new gun he got during the second episode. Walter gave it to him specifically to deal with Anderson. When Alucard shot Anderson's arm with it, he couldn't regenerate it, hence why he carried it with his teeth. Cheers!

I get the impression that they're trying to imply that Alucard and Dracula are different persona, but not different personalities. Remember how Alucard was a chick in the forties? I'd wager he just changes himself up every couple decades to avoid getting bored.

Told you the last few episodes are gonna be the good part. I especially enjoyed the seamless transition from "Get Ready to Die" to "Party, Party, Party" as Alucard's restraint loss music theme. Andrew W. K. can be proud of how they used his music. Anyway... Onto the important things. Warning. It will be a long rant on details and meanings.
Anderson and Alucard understood each other like no other from the very beginning. Remember all the jokes they did almost the same? Like the "Bayonets/Eyes for days." deal or the "I've never actually caught a leprechaun. Do you think if I stab it with my knife/shoot it with my gun it'll spit out lucky charms?" and "Well, now that that's all over, how about we go back to my place for a bowl of my favorite cereal? Frankenberry/Count Chocula." from the Ireland mission? Even Integra said "So... You disobey your master's orders whenever you feel like it? This is so crazy to see from the outside.". They both had regeneration powers, even when Anderson was an "enhanced human", and not the beast one could call "The Incarnation of the Crown of Thorns of Christ the Savior". They were two peas in a messed up, blood filled, disgusting pod. Uniquely able to understand the other one.
Also, as some others pointed out and I will further explain by giving more detail, Alucard was to be killed by a man. He fought beasts and monsters his entire life and afterlife. The enemy to take him down had to have that one component that he lost. As Alucard himself said to Seras Victoria in the last episode right before she ate Pip(with his permission, if I may add)... She had what he lost hundreds of years ago. The most powerful source of motivation of all time. Something that will make you able to flip cars over with your bare hands. The will to live. It is a power like no other. Through an insane adrenalin boost, you may break your bones and tear your muscles, but the car ends up flipped. Seen done by survivors of car accidents and mothers who saw the car run over their child. Two cases when that boost manifests the strongest. The will to survive and the will to save a loved one. Anderson, having become a beast, lost his soul and his ability to have an afterlife. He became a husk. A powerful one, but an empty husk none the less. He could not win against Alucard in that form. He became what Alie has been training to kill for hundreds of years. A monster.
Another thing is, Dracula became a monster to rid the world of a monster wreaking havoc on humanity. He chose to be a monster to save the world. He swore he would never let another beast like him live. Now... What did Anderson do, if not the same exact thing? Alucard ripping his heart out and stopping him from losing himself to the power and temptation that being a monster provides was actually a merciful act of goodness. Alucard stopped Anderson from losing what remained of his humanity. Because he knew all too well where the path Anderson just got on leads.

This is honestly my favorite episode out of all ten in the Hellsing ultimate ova .
However while funny, it's around here in the TFS version that most of important plot points , motivations and how certain things are in the show are supplanted or subverted by TFS for comedy's sake, which I don't fault them for but it really is a shame that they don't go more along the same lines as the Hellsing ultimate does , in particular at the beginning in the original Integra tells alucard to kill the Nazi's with one gun and the crusaders with the other, and that she only wants to know her enemies by the stains of red on their chests , and alucard's full chant for level zero is fantastic , as references a famous alchemy text that relates occultism and alchemy and such .
    But the most important thing that gets ignored is this line after releasing level zero;
"Blood is the currency of the soul, the vehicle of life. Blood is the medium by which life can be transfered. To drink blood is take the essence of a soul into oneself." - Sir Integra Hellsing .
Its basically the foundation for the entire show and how alucard's (and vampirism in the Hellsing universe) powers work.
Basically alucard's the most powerful and unstoppable supernatural force in their universe, as long as even one person's soul who he's drank from exist within him, he's unkillable as he's got millions of souls inside, but after he unleashes his army of souls in Lvl . 0 he is vulnerable, essentially it's more appropriate to think of alucard not as a person, but as fortress of sorts given human form , Anderson's and other characters refer to him as such by this episode.
That phrase by the way also has implications for Seras , because being offered blood instead of taking it by force changes the nature of the exchange between the taker of blood and the donor .

Much of the music in this episode, the piano and string pieces, were from another anime, The Big O. The Big O was a giant robot anime, and the titular Mecha was known as a Megadeus, piloted by its Dominus, Roger 'Negotiator' Smith. It was a true Super Robot; big, heavy, and slow as mud in winter, but it packed a wicked right hook, owing to the piston built into the elbow. Throughout the series, it made extensive use of piano pieces and orchestral strings to really give scenes some power and weight. All in all, it's an anime I would happily recommend. It's only two seasons, but for giant robot anime, it's one of the all time greats, having a great dub, fantastic animation, and deep characters, and the occasional goofball baddies, or badass one eyed butler awesomeness. It'll kind of gets weird towards the end, but the ride getting there is worth the time and emotional investment.
Also, did anyone else notice Alucard's tone when he said "Releasing restraint, level... *sigh* Zero"? He sounded kind of reluctant, sad even.

What I love about this ep is that this is a literal war going on in the streets, and then Alucard turns up and - without an order being given - both armies immediately turn every single weapon on him. They all know what he is, and they don't even need to suggest cooperating to try to stop him. It's so obviously their only chance to live, is to unite two armies in desperation. He's such an unrelenting nightmare.

When he starts releasing Level Zero the manga talks about how every person present, Nazis and Crusaders alike, instantly knew that a monster too big and horrible to be described was about to get lose, and they all desperately tried to kill him before it could happen. Love it so much, they probably knew it wouldn't work but it was just the _biggest_ fight or flight response they ever felt in their lives.

I think the personality change is the idea that Dracula is who Alucard was 500 years ago- original person. Alucard now is the cumulation of all his experiances. He picked up an attitude on the way

Alucard became a monster to kill other monsters. He hates monsters, so he will only allow a human he considers worthy to kill him. He was hoping Alexander Anderson would prove to be that human, but then he used the nail and turned himself into a monster.

Alucard's story is the only thing I can think of that is better in the original. I won't talk about how it started, but he will only allow himself to be killed by a human. I think it happened twice before. That's why he was calling Anderson worthy, and he tried to stop him from using the nail. There wasn't a conversation with God originally, it was him getting angry and refusing to die to a monster. Alucard and Dracula are like separate personalities, he became Alucard to keep up with changing times. He had been doing that for hundreds of years. This might be my favorite episode in this series. Imagine having to wait a year after that ending.

Alucard was once Dracula during the time when Integras ancestor was alive Abraham Van Helsing who defeated Dracula back in the day. From there it somehow led to Dracula (Alucard) being in servitude to the Helsing family.

The nail Anderson was one of the nails used during Christ's crucifixion, so it's a magical object to the Vatican. When he stabbed himself with the nail, he became a "monster of God", a monster in order to fight against Alucard.
That upset Alucard because he will only accept defeat from a human's hands, not a monsters. So in Alucard's perspective, Anderson gave up any rights to kill him when he became a monster...

watch the full song. it's based on a separate manga, and isn't quite cannon, but it is a character that anderson was obviously based on, and they use it as his origin story(could actually be cannon in the authors mind even)
gives a great view into the start of anderson.

So, some context for the Alucard vs Anderson fight. See, Alucard wants to be killed, but he wants a human to do it, and further he wants a human to beat him in a fair fight (or as close as that's ever going to get). However, Anderson resorted to divine intervention making him not exactly a normal human anymore, robbing Alucard of the fight and death he wants.
Additionally, Alucard mentions while he's speaking with Satan that he won't allow another monster like him to exist. That's why he fights monsters for Hellsing (among other reasons).

Alucard wasn't turning them into ghouls. Those were all the souls he absorbed over his lifetime (i.e. all the people he drained dry). This si why he couldn't be killed, he had literally millions of lives inside him, and every time he's "killed" one of the lives inside him dies instead of him. When he releases Level Zero, he unleashes all the souls he devoured and has them fight for him as his familiars. However, this leaves him with only his own life, so he can be killed in this state.

  • @brucejedilee5290
    @brucejedilee5290 4 года назад

Restraint Level 0 unleashes the souls o every person and creature Alucard has ever eaten. They are his familiars, spirits he can summon to aid him in battle, this includes his demon dog that he used to eat Luke Valentine in episode 2. But while this is a great aid in a large battle like this where he and his allies are outnumbered to the point where even he would have trouble, it also makes it easier to kill him. The reason he's near immortal is because he has so many souls in him (you sorta need to kill him once for every soul or something like that) but without them you can kill him by stabbing him through the heart or cutting off his head. He is still hard to kill though, he can quickly regrow lost limbs and take huge amount of damage and still has most of his other vamperic powers. Also Alucard feels God turned his back on him while he was Vlad the Impailer (the man who turned into Dracula). He had suffered for years at the hands of the Ottomans while still a child, being put through brutal training and even getting raped on a daily basis by his captors. He then spent years fighting the Turks, leading his armies into battle with them and keeping them from advancing further into Europe and doing all of this in the name of God. Only to be defeated, turtured, starved and then killed without God ever stepping in to save him. Only the Devil heard his prayers and offered him to become a vampire to get his revenge on the men who hurt him

To be correct. He is now Vlad Tepis Dracula(Drac-cool-la), King of Walachia, Impaler(not the first to do it) of the cruel Ottoman/Turks, and now... servant of Hellsing. Level Zero, the effect where all the souls he has consume take physical form, while restrained, killing him would only result in one soul being destroyed, but now... he is fully free, main host free to the world.

I haven't watched the original (though I should, it's on my to watch list) but as far as I know in the original Alucard was kinda suicidal, in a way. Like he didn't want to live anymore but also wanted that it would be a worthy human that kills him. That's why he wasn't killed by any of Milleniums goons, because they weren't human. He didn't want them to be the one to end him.
Anderson was the only one he considered worthy of taking his life. That's why, even in the abridged, he gets angry when Anderson is about to stab himself with the nail. Because he knew Anderson wouldn't be human anymore, and thus, not worthy by the standards he had himself made for the one who bests him.

Well, there that could be debated. It's probably like millions of personalities. The lives he has consumed are not just his "minions", he is them. Alucard/Dracula are just holding the others back but they can call upon their memories and appearance on any moment and essentially become them. So, yeah, he doesn't have 2 personalities, he has over 2 million.

To basically sum up Alucard and Anderson, Alucard was once a man of God who lost everything, and on the day of his execution turned his back on God and drank human blood, turning into a Vampire. While he then went on to commit atrocities he ultimately came to regret what he had done and for being so weak as become a monster and blame everything on God, when it was his own actions that lead to his fall. Now he desires to find a worth human to kill him, as he sees that only a human can kill a monster, for then the monster is dead but if a monster kills a monster then all you have is a new monster in its place. So when Anderson pulls out the nail, he begs him to keep his humanity and not turn into a monster like himself. Ultimately Anderson ignores this and turns into "One of Gods Monsters". Alucard is devastated by this, but reaffirms his desire to never allow another monster like himself to exist, fights Anderson, removing the nail and killing him. Both come to understand one another and Alucard says farewell to his fallen rival. Great both in the Abridged version and the Official (which I cannot recommend enough to people its sooooo good!)
Love seeing how much yah love the series and love the reaction!

Since alucard is Dracula backwards, so are their personalities, Dracula is honorable and kind, a close range fighter as well which is why he fights with swords. Alucard on the other hand is the polar opposite, rude, crude and all the like, alucard likes long range combat hence he fights with guns and let others (the souls he consumed) do it for him. However one thing is for sure that both personalities recognize Integra as their master. So they are like both sides of the same coin.
