- The 1998 Long Beach Grand Prix had a little bit of everything. It set a new record for cautions in the first half of the race, but had an exciting finish that went down to the last lap. This is one of IndyCar's best races of all time.

Hearing rookie Helio… makes you feel old 😂
Lmao it really does. It's fun to look back at races like this and see what a driver's career has become.
@@Demise90Racing I wonder if he ever did anything noteworthy after this…
Modern day Indycar dreams of a race like this. These cars were so fast and the sounds they made were awesome. Thanks for this video.
I absolutely miss this era of Indycar! Multiple chassis and engine manufacturers, 900hp, fearless drivers, and more than just 4 teams that could win every week!
I used to leave the indy 500 as a kid with my ears ringing back in the day I miss that.
Those are the best sounding indycars of all time!!! 900HP TURBO CHARGED MONSTERS!!!! This was my very first motorsports race ever and I was there.
I was at this race. Sitting on main straight just after hairpin. It visibly clear that Zanardi was lapping at pace that was above everyone else. I remember being in awe at how quickly he was lapping. The entire crowd was on their feet and losing their minds with this victory. It was absolutely insane! The good days of CART racing.
I woo was at this race. IT was my very first ever CART/indycar race!!! I was caught up in the war between CART and the IRL. I hated the IRL and still do. I absolutely loved this era of CART and definitely this was the best era of indycars ever. I miss these cars but I'm so happy to have lived it.
I am a simple guy: I see Alex Zanardi fighting for the win, I like!
Zanardi is a legend. I appreciated what he did on the track as a kid, and now that I'm an adult I appreciate it even more.
i sometimes forget how long Helio has been in indycar!
Really love your recaps and all the old footage. Great reference material for someone like me.
Ah '98, what a time 😎
Apparently that *was* the year for insane races.... (Spa, anyone?)
98 is one of the most epic years for motorsport, almost every series I know of had crazy good seasons...IndyCar, F1, WRC, Sportscars, everything. What a year.
The Tecate car was always a favorite. But Micheal is my favorite diver ever
Awesome work covering this race ! My birth year too ! I love how fast these beautiful machines were back then and the sounds that come with them
Gualter Salles was up there on merit this race. That and 98 was IMO and underrated season too
These cars are still more exciting than current day indycars..
Another kickass video, my friend! Thanks!
Best open wheeler era ever
Wish they’d work the old hill section back into this race.
YES. This one is one of my all time favorite races. Thank you man
this channel is so underrated!
Yeah I'm happy that they have the current layout compared to this one but damn what a mad race
That was amazing. I'll need to watch the entire race!!
Thank you for making thouse. Sometimes the thing that makes my whole day
Wow Jason thank you. This comment made my whole day!
@@Demise90Racing your welcome. Love to see videos like that, the kind of race review is perfect. Only you and black flags matter do this on such a level. hope we see another one soon :), great work buddy🔥
Those cars were so freaking fast
A very crucial part of the race was Zanardi's last pit stop, exiting the pits on cold tires and a full tank just ahead of de Ferran and co, but managing to fend them off for two laps. After that all that was laft to do was to pass everyone on the lead lap by the finish, Easy!
Another banger video bro! Love it!!
Thank you for the work you do.....
You’re welcome. Glad you enjoy the videos 👍
Happy holidays and greetings from Indonesia
Same to you!!!
I was playing cart world series on playstation last night, and i rammed into salles' car at the hairpin exit, except he was sitting there upside down for some unexplicable reason 😂 what are the chances lol
I miss this version of Long Beach; it was punchy and frantic. Okay it kind of sucked on Lap 1 as the field tended to snarl up in the chicane, but it was probably no worse than the Fountain section.
Strong agree. I still like Long Beach, but the left turn off of shoreline drive isn't as fun.
Alex superstar, best race ever! 🤩
These were the coolest Indy cars
I loved this race. Donuts yeah
All that just for a Ganassi win 🤷🏻♀️ lol jk. Great drive for the master Zanardi. He had some amazing abilities. ❤
He really did. I understood how good he was as a kid, but as an adult I really appreciate what he was able to do behind the wheel.
@@Demise90Racinga crazy race indeed. Also thanks Bob varsha for giving a shout-out to my hometown Memphis, TN during the broadcast.
13:08 😳
Max Papis almost got run over on pit exit!!
I was at the race sitting at the hairpin.
How in the world did Gualter Salles put a Payton-Coyne car 4th on the grid? lol
Lmao It was raining in qualifying. When the race started he held up pretty well for the first couple of laps. It seemed as soon as tire wear started to kick in he fell like a rock.
Addicted… if you could see my man cave you would understand… my era
These cars ❤❤❤
When Indycar was wonderful
This race was way too exciting for you not to cover!
I agree. It was over due.
Is it an illusion or is the hairpin here way wider than the modern one?
Can anyone please explain why race cars are so hard to get into reverse. Seems to be true across race series?
