I've been watching a lot of these Engineering Announcements videos lately. I'm intrigued by them since here in North America, we never had any regular programs that explained how radio and TV stations work.

Hello Colin - here in Britain we had a much tighter regulated television service compared to how your FCC regulated TV where you are. These programmes were used to fill many vacant hours on the TV schedules, but were part of the course, under the rules of the broadcasting authority. Before 1972, the British government even controlled the amount of broadcasting hours permitted on the then three television stations in the country, that is just how controlling and strict they were. Before 1972, these announcements could be used as filler for the void of programming on air.

For the size of the UK which would fit into a state in the US, we certainly had many TV transmitters and relay stations, i know the US mainly had their high power TV transmitters in built up areas of cities and towns, farther out or in low lying areas, the US didn't use relay stations but people erected tall towers in their back yard to gain extra height to receive weaker signals.

@@christopherhulse8385 in many areas this was true. I think out west we had networks of relays. And even some full power stations that simply re broadcast stations from a nearby tv market. However relays I believe were built and maintained by the broadcaster.

Tbh, to say ITV had a logo pre-1989 is not accurate.
