Great video! These are great tips for the beginner player to gain an edge against other beginners, or catch up considerably when playing with experienced players. Thanks!
"Recover the magister's orb" is an Arcana quest that everyone should do it as it's the best quest. It allows you, once per turn, to place an agent on a space occupied by an opponent. Having this spaces removes a big restriction and allows you a lot of freedom, it's often the game breaking quest. I simply remove it. In contrast, the "Recruit a lieutenant" Warfare quest is great because while it is certainly powerful it does cost a lot to achieve and gives you no points making it a good balanced card.
With the "Recruit a lieutenant" Warfare quest it is expensive. But you need to get it as early as you can. I went for easy quests and delayed getting the Lieutenant by more then a round.
As someone who's played this game several times, great guide. Everything is spot on. Sometimes getting those buildings is difficult though if you aren't first player. You need the gold and your turn to be before anyone else who's wanting to build. Sometimes I wonder if getting start player, getting gold, and then building (3 actions) is worth it. Especially if it's already round 3-4.
You're certainly right - the later it gets in the game, the less worth it is to spend actions on turn order, gold, and the building spot. Thanks for the comment!! -Brian
What about a strategy being to take away quests that might be big points for your opponents? Whether just claiming the quest for yourself or resetting the quests and getting one from the new deal?
I really enjoy your videos. But I was thinking... posting spreadsheet for a game. That should be on boardgamegeek. It will get more people looking. If you are looking for traffic for your blog.... then package the file so that your URL is included.
Yeah, I should probably be putting more of my spreadsheets and such on BGG. The quest one wasn't as telling as I hoped it would be other than showing how over-powered Thin the City Watch is compared to the other quests, so I'm not sure how excited BGG-ers would be about it. I'll throw it up there and see what people think though. Thanks!
