I just love the way Jules intuitively knows how to relate to people. I always enjoy episodes with him as host. And this “Escape to the Country” redux series is done right-very close to watching the original series. Well done.
As a senior citizen, as I watch various episodes, I am amazed at people climbing stairs and wondering if they think about "what about 5, 10 years from now, how will I feel about these stairs? They don't appear to care...house with one floor plan is very useful as we age. Love this program....I'm in USA but drool over the beauty of these countries in Europe- seem so very peaceful
House 1 was lovely, 2 didn't like the garden being all in front but the house was OK, mystery house was OK but I agree it's like it's on an estate rather than a country retreat.
Jules is such a lovely presenter! I'm always very glad to see him. I've loved the balcony with the fantastic views and the garden in house #1, so idyllic! The layout in house #2 was great, that would make such a cozy home and the summerhouse was great too! The mystery property was really nice, lovely surroundings, close to the coast, but too overlooked. Interesting part about Sir Humphry and Chillingham Castle and the part about Gerarde creating things from slate was super! Thanks for sharing this episode, it was very entertaining!
Oh yes - I concur 100% Jules is the best on this show. He has such a lovely people’s personality and he does not struggle to do it. It comes so naturally. What’s not to love about dear Jules, even my 14 year old son loves how he presents and his personality 😁
They were both smitten by the charms of house number one and rightly so, but she admitted being swayed by the price of house number two. Such a shame. I re-watched thr tour of house one. Wow!
I loved the 1st property. It was semi-detached but didn't feel like it. I loved the outside space on offer as well, offering privacy compared to the 2nd option. Although i love the turn-key nature of the 2nd house and the price, i would still go for the 1st.
I do admire the way you tactfully handled Chris because with the mystery house she was turning her nose up at everything and being extremely difficult to be quite honest. However, I think that the house with the balcony would have been ideal for her, and she totally missed out on a golden opportunity and beautiful part of the UK... Having been brought up in Northumberland it was like reliving my childhood all over again recognising many of the places. Thanks so much.
Jules love the escapes to new country homes with amazing picturesque views. Always marvel at the beautiful ancient buildings whether cathedrals or listed buildings🐺🙃
For house #1 I would consider moving back to the UK. But I bet it gets bitterly cold in the winter. Loved this episode and loved the two ladies rapport and directness. Hope she is doing well 8 years later and found her dream home
The second house is not as nice as the first, but having a bedroom and bath on the ground floor is not a bad idea for someone getting on in years. When you end up finding it difficult to climb the stairs, you can live all on one level with family or carers having room upstairs.
I, too, found house #1 absolutely charming and adorable and the garden and the view were stunning. However, I didn't like #2 or the mystery house. #2 felt not quirky but just badly laid-out for me and the garden across with everybody being able to see your every move? erh, no. Mystery house... well, I think Chris summed that one up perfectly.
Oops! I've rarely seen such a disastrous reaction to the mystery house which is usually the winner! It's true that the whole holiday park aspect was not working. For viewers of an older generation, I found our lady buyer sounded just like Mrs Merton, and she had some of her dry humour too!
House #1 is sweet. The garden is lovely too. House #2 the sitting room next to the kitchen would keep me from forgetting food on the stove! Odd floor plan though. Don't care for the farm land particularly. Mystery House - blah
Bit of a tough cookie that Chris and Jules I think you put them both on the spot with the mystery house...maybe they don't want to still be neighbours or maybe Chris doesn't want Linda living too close. I didn't see Linda saying anything when you put that too her... Chris liked the 'upside down house' as she called it because it 'was modern' but she didn't like the mystery house 'because it was modern'...ho hum, you can please some of the people some of the time...as they say!! Also I don't know if she considered that she is well into her 60's and buying a 2 storey house and having to climb up all those stairs every day and night as she gets older, might wear pretty thin after a while...and she would only need to have one simple accident and she wouldn't see her upstairs again for quite a while if ever... But I do think the first house was her, they were both lovely. I didn't like the colour scheme in the mystery house it looked cheap 'just like a holiday let'. Think you might have lost your touch on that one Jules :) cheers from Western Australia
I had the same feeling, as if thex had quarrelled between the viewings of house no 1 and the rest. That silence at the mystery house about living together again spoke volumes!
Problem: Scottish system of house buying, which automatically pushes the house price way above the asking price, unless it is sold strictly at a fixed price. No mentioned made of this. Very deceptive.
The first home would be my choice.
I would have stopped the search after the first cottage...it is adorable, cottage of my dreams it is.

I liked house #1 more than the second.
Oh, Id love to know why she didn't take the first one!! It was beautiful, the balcony, view, yard with art building...truly perfection!

Loved house #1.
The first home is gorgeous in every respect. I would go for it
The first house on this episode is my most favorite house ever on this show... I just love it!!!! I love this show too LOL
House #1 was gorgeous with a balcony overlooking incredible views
What happened?? She loved the first house and it seemed absolutely perfect! I don't get it.🤦♀️
House 1 was lovely, 2 didn't like the garden being all in front but the house was OK, mystery house was OK but I agree it's like it's on an estate rather than a country retreat.
Both house 1 and 2 were lovely. Not often they're able to find 2 houses that fit the brief so well and on budget on this show, so well done!
Very surprised she didn't buy the first house -- it seemed perfect and she appeared to be over the moon about it.
Jules is such a lovely presenter! I'm always very glad to see him.

The upside down house fits her personality....
The first house was lovely! 😍

Bitterly cold? 😂 Where do you live now?

The 1st house was pretty.❤

Me too, exactly my thoughts on the 2nd house. Didn't seem as private as the 1st

I often wonder about parents who move to be near their kids. What if the kids get a better job somewhere else?

Mystery House - blah
House 1
Chris is deathly afraid of cows 🐄 but not the wild, massive, dangerous, prehistoric ones.

I'd love to know what House #1 might cost in today's (2024) dollars/pounds/whatever! thoughts?
It didn’t seem to me that those two ladies were that great friends. They didn’t seem all that comfortable with each other.
I had the same feeling, as if thex had quarrelled between the viewings of house no 1 and the rest. That silence at the mystery house about living together again spoke volumes!
"glorified caravan site" 😂😂

What is the Scottish system of house buying?
ONE boring one for a change. sadly yes she IS stuckup. Jules the star could not even shine here... I would rejoice if she moves away!
