The film opens as the Earth flagship Blue Noah leads the First Emigration Fleet to Amare. Suddenly, thousands of unidentified ships appear and open fire. The warships of Earth's Fleet (EDF) counterattack, but are quickly overwhelmed. Blue Noah is damaged critically. On one of the failing support ships, Captain Yuki Mori Kodai, wife of the protagonist Susumu Kodai, orders her ship to do an emergency warp, but she vanishes mysteriously afterwards.
I really like how these new characters on the Yamato are introduced. It’s really creative.

This is really pretty and I've never seen this series before. I am a sucker for this because I watched Star Blazers after school in 8th grade in the early 1980s.
Everything in that engine room is very impressive. BEYOND POWERFUL!!!!.
I used to love watching Star Blazers.
you can just keep up a constant rate of wave motion gun shots because of the new wave motion engine this is overpowered

Great animation. One notable critique: 8 million feet per second is SLOW in space (the speed he says black hole is traveling towards earth). And then, he said it would destroy Earth in 3 months. At that speed that is only about 3.5 million miles away, which is 1/3 the distance to the sun. At such a small distance, earth would have already been destroyed by any blackhole, even a small one. All the debris getting sucked into the hole would be forming a fiery orbital ring around the event horizon (caused by friction and massively fast orbital speeds of the materials getting sucked into the hole). This area surrounding the black hole would most certainly include earth, even at 3.5 million kilometers from the blackhole.

Interesting, at 1:01, the equations presented seem to be genuine relativistic equations. ds^2 is the usual notation for total spacetime interval and 1-2GM/c^2r is the formula for gravitational time dilation for something a distance r from a mass M. I'm not familiar enough with General Relativity to say that that formula is entirely correct, but obviously someone did some research.
