A lot of people do not eat yellow jacks. I have. After cleaning the loins up by removing fatty tissue, season it up cajun or a jerky style and slow smoke it. It might surprise you.
That is why I fish with a penn 10500 with 500 yards of 80lb braid. Just never know what your going to hook. But I do not use lures much. And I know you need that lighter set up for long casting.
Very nice! Catching jacks off the jetty is an insane rush. You guys should try and hit up Packery Channel soon for tarpon, snook, and kings. The fishing will only get better at the jetties...
SERIOUS QUESTION: How is it that you never get stuck on the rocks or the lines underneath, we lost like 30 lures in there until we stopped fishing the jetties all together :D
That break off made my stomach drop. I was like this is a monster has to be, has to be! and as soon as the pole jerked I said NOOOOOOOO! I haven’t had the luxury to fish near as much as I’d like this year(plus this winter that won’t go away), I’m vicariously living through your fishing adventures.
How do you keep the line from not twisting on the spinning reels? Should I go braid or what 🤦🏻♂️ I just got a Abu Premier 3000 and I keep getting line twist like really bad.. Had a issue on Saturday at Texas city where I had just casted a live shrimp and was trying to untangle the 17lb mono when I got hit by a 21 1/2 inch spec trout 😂 wish I had recorded it.. My buddy was like screw the line reel that bitch in 😆
It would have been awesome if the jack was caught on the 3000 Stradic, it looks like a bass set up. The reel looks like it could handle the salt but the rod looked a little light, all very nice to me. I was excited with the big hook up.
I am a fresh water angler trying to transition to salt (not entirely) and learn. I have been to these jetties a few times but only at the beginning. By the broken pier. Would love to learn anything that you are willing to share. I work retail so I get the jetties during the week.
steel leaders won't help anymore than a thick mono leader. Unless you plan on trying to cast a 10 foot leader. The fish was barreling deep close to the rocks so a small 4 foot leader isn't long enough to provide the abrasion resistance needed. My line snapped at the braid not the mono. But to each their own. The end of the video clearly shows me landing a fish using the same method.
Awesome fishing man I plan to get back out to those jetties soon. Btw what kind of boots are you using for being on the rocks? I've been looking at getting Korkers with the spikes.
Awsome man!! That solves my mystery to what always gets me there.. i have goten spooled on 4 rods on the same day.. 80lb brade and still get broken off
Awesome again Mark, great content. The words out that Freeport jetty is on fire. I went not 4/2 afternoon, so many people crowding the deep end. Lost a spoon and no hook ups, fun none the less. I definitely need a jetty rod n reel now, my inshore one weren't cutting it.
Hey man big fan of you now just started watching your videos and didn’t recognize you in the store but I was the guy that helped you out behind the counter lol
if you wanna try the funnest fishing method you should try light shore jigging.. look for videos the Japanese are masters of it and its the most common method to fish inshore in japan... buy some light jigs i would love to see you experience this skill and post a video! look for jig brands like duo, jackal, jigpara etc...
Glad to see you had another successful trip out man! Went out yesterday, weather was gorgeous but no luck on the jacks or any other fighting fish. Only sheephead, I never switched up just kept throwing the same 2oz spoon next time I deff will! I love fishing and really appreciate all the knowledge you share with us anglers to help us with our own days out on the water!
Your freaking awesome Mark. You are the man buddy. Thank you for your great videos. 👍
Excellent fish/fight. That little reel got a work out. Great job.
Thanks 👍
You left it on the field buddy!
Awesome great Jack and great fight man you looked spent!

Caught my first bull red this last sunday at the end of that jetty!!

Also, what's your favorite thing to use at the jettys?
Silver Spoons in 1/8, 1/4, 1/2, 3/4, 1 and 2 oz's
MDLR Fishing yessss!!
Very nice reel and amazing fight on that Jack! Those are always so much fun to catch. Tight lines buddy!
Thanks brother, when we gonna fish again?
MDLR Fishing man I hope we can meet up again soon. Let’s plan it, go chase some monsters!
Hit me up on Instagram with a DM.

Would love to do it. Nick and I have tried 3 times and the weather has always ruined our stay.
@@MDLRFishing yeah spring fishing is good, but the weather can be unpredictable. Ill be going down there in a couple of weeks to scout
It's videos like this that get me pumped before the weekend of fishing starts.

Love the vids by the way! Just started kayak fishing around NC and found your content very helpful man!

Oh I used to always get stuck too.
@@MDLRFishing how did you get over it? what's the magic move? :D
Is this the Surfside part or the Quintana side ?

Great catch Mark who to meet up with you and we can catch some fish.

Very nice footage thank you for sharing bro!

Mark, thanks for keeping it clean!! Your videos keep me close to the coast even when three days of the week I am in Dallas or Stephenville for work.
How far down the jetty do you go?
It just depends on where I see the bait swimming for their life. When you see it you’ll know they’re there.
Awesome, what side do you usually go on the one by Quintana or the one on the other side?
Excellent video!
ha ha
8:40
yeah they saw the beast and were jumping for their life 😂
@@MDLRFishing lol, you need steel leaders because those rocks snap your line in a heartbeat as witnessed 8:40

Damn is he bigger than your 57 min kayak Jack
I’m not sure, I have to measure my rod to see. I’ll let you know when I do.
Another awesome video 🔥🔥🔥
Hopefully they still there this weekend taking the boat out
Awesome fishing man I plan to get back out to those jetties soon. Btw what kind of boots are you using for being on the rocks? I've been looking at getting Korkers with the spikes.
Simms Flyweight boot with carbide cleats.
The C3000 is a 2500 body with a slightly larger spool.
The C stands for compact.
Beat me to it man. Cant beat a stradic ive got like 20 now.
I'm going there tomorrow and I was going to ask if it would be a good idea to take my 4000fd shimano nexave I have it on a 9ft gx2
MTZ Fishing I think a 4000 is more than enough.
@@MDLRFishing live shrimp was the key today for the Spanish on a popping cork
Awesome
Keep up the good work brotha
Gr8 job Mark
Nice, I've caught some jacks like that on my trout rod with 15lb mono. Hell of a fight!
Thank you Mark! I'm going to try those spoons.
Mark sometime reds will hit the spoon at the jetty and my guess you lost a bull. Since it didn’t look like a jack fight
That’s a very interesting thought. I would’ve loved to have landed it.
Great vid mark
We call those Papios in Hawaii. Nice catch & vid braddah! 😀🎣🤙
Thanks!
great catch bud.. keep after them
Do you still like your Old Town topwater PDL?
Awsome man!! That solves my mystery to what always gets me there.. i have goten spooled on 4 rods on the same day.. 80lb brade and still get broken off
Use a long shock leader at least 6 feet of 100 pound mono and tie a fg knot

where's the "TBD" ?
TBD means To Be Determined, at a later date.
Great catch. Semper Fish!
It weighs 8.1oz not 6oz.
I know, that’s why I made the correction in text.

I’ll look it up.
Do the meet up at pierce marsh please!! Also we need more marsh action
Awesome video and jack @mdlrfishing. Quick question. When you say 50lb leader do you mean fluoro or steel?
Very nice. I need to get out to Quintana asap!
Freaking AWESOME catch bro!!! You nailed that Jack!! Those boots look like they're doing a great job on those wet rock.
Wish I had a reel like that
SO AWESOME MAN!

Mark I really enjoyed seeing that video. Thank you. Tight Lines and Full Limits to Ya.!
What date was this and nice video by the way
The stradic 3000 is a 2500 frame with a slightly larger spool.
That was epic bro! That new stardom looks amazing!
The jacks are so much fun. Your stradic 300 is fine. I have caught tons and big bulls on my 2500
Careful on those algae rocks broo!
great video the jack is my resolution finish for this year keep the videos coming
Been killin' it with them Jacks & Smaks lately! Awesome job, Mark!
my Stardic CI4 4000 handles bulls reds like a champ and super light. Love that reel!!
Can you drive a car on that side of the jetty
I ve seen cars there before
Cool thanks
Cool thanks
Man you really like to push it with the light set up😂
You could have gotten that reel cheaper by $30 at Academy webster instead of paying too much at Cabelas or Bass Pro
I really enjoy your videos by the way. Not trying to be rude or anything. Just trying to help ot a fellow angler on a budget.
No offense taken at all. It was a spur of the moment purchase. I didn’t have time to shop around.
Nice fish👍Hope you iced that arm down later, lol.
The most tackle bustin’, drag pullin’ fish in the gulf! Nice one man👍🏻
Heading out to the jetties soon, hopefully. Still waiting to fight a jack. Awesome videos brotha. ✌🏾
Ur close where I live omg
Awesome man! You’ve definitely inspired me to go out there 👍🏼
With your son on your side priceless LOL
r u giving away a stradic
Yes at the end of the month I'll do a giveaway on Patreon.
I thought his rod was going to break before the line with all the high sticking he was doing on both the jacks 😂
Damn the jetties have been on fire. Hopefully it stays like that for the rest of the month
WooHoo! I'm famous!!!
Don Faulk great seeing you out there!
How do you like that reel? I’m about to try mine in saltwater this weekend for the first time. Targeting reds and hopefully trout
I love the reel! You can sling that thing for some distance without backlash.

Marcus, wrong video brother. Make sure to put this comment on the Patreon video.
@@MDLRFishing lol sorry I was reading comments and saw others posting that, I was like, what did I miss
Man am I missing out haven't had time to make out there :(
Hope it stays on fire!!! I’ll be there soon!
I had that same reel in 1000 series, fell off my kayak at bayou vista, and I decided not to follow it.
Sorry brother.
