- Sorry for saying so many "Uh"s but I am in more pain than I try to let show, so it comes out in my speaking...
As far as the spacer needed and where to put it, is dependent upon what is causing the issue you are trying to correct... you can space the caliper pab, or you can space the backing plate assembly, not rocket science, but common sense is needed...
overall importance is safety and for me, I trust my bro and the certified mechanics who helped me verify the information I researched and found... you have to do your own research and make sure this is something you want to tackle and search for those who have already done the setup and ask how it holds up...
i trust it can stop all the speed i can get out of a 1000 hp motor... now whether or not that silly ass posi unit and stock axles can, thats a whole other story....
thanks for watching...
Wish I had someone to show me the game when I was young # good job!!!!
Lots of usefull info, so glad you are posting this stuff. Most people just put before and after. For someone like me with more time than money this is a big help. I love doing the work on my car myself, makes me proud. So after i do this to my 86 elco my factory 14 inch wheels won't fit anymore, will they? Oh, thanks for answering all my questions. So many people on here don't wanna help you, they just wanna show off what they have done. so thanks for your vids, keep them coming.
I appreciate you and your son taking the time to shoot this-- I had no idea what goes on in the rear --- nice to see it all apart and go back together
very nice tutorial series you made Gerald, i will for sure be coming back to these whenever i do this upgrade to my el camino
Guys like you make RUclips the BOMB! I love all 3 video parts to this upgrade. I watched every minute of the videos and can appreciate the real-time opportunity you've given us. I love watching garage mechanics makin' stuff work and not complaining about the little sh*t.
Give my thanks to your son for being an attentive helper. I grew up helping my dad in the garage and I loved it. My son, however, would rather pick up dog crap than to help me in the garage. So, even though I have a large German Shepherd, my back yard is very clean, lol! He'll come around someday as the idea of driving starts to sink in but he's only 11 y/o as of now.
I look forward to watching any new videos you make. Your calm cadence and straight talking way of instruction is perfect for RUclips! Keep up the good work and stay safe.

cool video homie you got skilz
Great video brother I watched every second of them all, I would really like to see a real time video of u upgrading this same g body rear end to make it a limited slip or posi parts used etc etc and from where to get them on a budget Also, another video of doing the front end big brake upgrade.... thanks a lot and keep em coming...
thanks. I actually have a ton of private videos and may have something like that already... ill look thru them and see... if not, i will do one soon as i can, to this same rear end... gonna be a while though... gotta finish some projects up
Cool, no problem and much appreciated for the quick reply. I'm gearing up to do this brake upgrade as shown and would like to also do the posi since I'll have it apart already... collecting parts right now, my rear end is out already just cleaning it and taking it apart...
Thank you for the video on the brake upgrade for the g body rear end it is really helpful and makes everything really simple.. Keep Em coming
First off great video and thanx for making it for the financially disabled like my self my only question is will it change the back spacing at all? Cuz my rims sit close to the frame and I don't wanna use spacers thanks again and keep up the good work
I love these videos as it gives me some hope of a DIY for my 81 G-Body rear disc conversion. I just wanted to know if my 14x7 mags will fit on this conversion? They already work on the front with the stock disc brake setup. Do you know if I'll have any issue? Thanks,
some (very limited) 15" wheels will work, most if not all 16" and up, the stock ls1s are 16"...
Great video! Just saved all 4 parts so I can continue going over them when I do mine. Thank you for going over all the details!
Good info
Wow it actually works, and here I thought you were makin this shit up the whole time. lol. Thanks Gerald, I'm sure i'll end up doing this swap on something sometime!
sounds good, very easy to do and save alot of money when you do it yourself...
thanks for ur time and effort bro,its helped alot of us.
Good looking out on that swap,i went pick the part up 2day for my 79 malibu!
really appreciate the video, did the swap this weekend on my GN thanks to your videos ..............do you have any video on making the e brake work?
great video thanks
Did conversion but what is the wheel stud are short, what size do I need??
How big of a wheel will i need so i clear the new set up?
Hey do you sell those brackets for the shock relocation
Ok i Have Question what Rotor's are you using are they off the camaro also ????
My question is how much would you charge to do that I have a 74 Chevy C10 pick..
How much did it cost you to buy the parts like the caliper and backing plate from junkyard
lol, even though Ive done this before, I heard someone talking about how hard it is to do, so I had to do it again... and show just how "hard"... especially if you dont care about having an ebrake, you pretty much throw the rear in, hook up the brake lines, change out the prop valve or add a rear adj valve, bleed the brakes and make sure the valve is adj right and enjoy... lol! sometime you have to do "something" if you want to save something... lol
Hey bro. Thanks for the information you give here. Did you do a video for the LS1 front brake upgrade?
Thanks
cool! good one man!
gracias amigo
Is it safe to say the 13.9" rotor is good with the 98-02 Camaro Calipers? Great videos!!! 🙏🏾🙏🏾🙏🏾
not yet, but search out "ElCo Warren" he is a friend and has videos showing a nice looking bracket, etc he made for his swap... easy to do, inexpensive to make and looks awesome
Ima do the same conversion on my 85 Elco
@MrBaylamp601 yes, you can use the factory camaro rotors 98-02, i used these for the vid, because i had them laying around for mock up
thanks for watchin, as far as the posi, dont really know, cause this rear end is not staying in the car... have a shortened ford9 for it, just did this series of vids for those who wanted to see how it can be done... doing posi unit and all that, kinda just because i can and it will be put to use in something, or someone can buy it and put it to use...
What did you use for donor parts? model/ year? thanks.
cool!
Just watched all of these videos! Amazing detail, thank you so much for taking the time to do this. I was wondering, are the 2wd s10 blazer calipers the same?
They are👍🏽
Particularly 2000-2004 RWD Models only along with the GMC Jimmy and Oldsmobile Bravada of the same years
Have you adapted the 4 piston Camaro rear brakes to this rear yet? Let us know your feedback on this. Thanks.
i need to see how u did the e brake cables my friend
i am not 100% sure, if the widths are any different, without measuring the rear end from disc to disc and then comparing that with the drum to drum measurements, but i will measure the rearend next time im at my storage garage...
will I still be able to use existing wheels.ready to do a 1980 Malibu and this brake upgrade is perfect
George Stewart I also have a 80 Malibu . I want to install these to my car. Is it really necessary to relocate the shock? I am using 15 rims.
Cool. Nice to know. Great vid's
nice work very straight forward. What year make model is your differential?
brokeys3 im not sure ive done a vid on the front just yet, but i have done up to 14" rotors on the front and am running c6 z06 rotors front and back on the el co project. when i get back on that car, i will do a detailed video or two... i use KORE3 stuff for the front... brackets etc.... will have to use vette pabs, with ls1 or vetter calipers... look at some of the vids on the front kits ive sold... will be some info in them
1 & DONE
Is it possible to flip the back plate/caliper mount assembly 180* degrees so the caliper mounts in the front so the shock will not require a lower mounting bracket to relocate it?
BTW great video. I am planning on doing this to an 8.5" rear for my G-body Cutlass. Most likely next week.
yes. i believe in order to install them the way i have in the vid, i actually swapped sides, on the donor cars the brakes are mounted the way you are saying. i think you can rotate them, but i believe the reason I installed them this way was to make the ebrake easier to retrofit (the way/direction the lever/actuator for the ebrake has to be pulled by a cable)... if you look at the ebrake/mount assembly, you will see what im trying to say... other than that, you can mount them toward the front or rear.. IMHO... havent looked at the brakes or installed some in a while
I just bought a set from eBay. Should be here next week. I was just thinking if I swapped sides and mount toward the front I could save a step. I guess something has to be fabricated either way, because of the e-brake. Thanks.
yes have vids on the front also and i have threads at gbodyforum with better info
Yo these are some great videos for the LS brake swap but did you do a video yet for the e brake set up?
yes, camaro rotors
I'm in the process of doing a swap in a 12 bolt posi with 373 gears. I found a 99 Camaro set and was wondering what I need to grab? I don't want to forget anything thanks
Great video! One question, this option work on a Tahoe 1994 differential? Nice work man! Cheers!
Hey I've been trying to find a video on how to hook up the emergency brake cables for the Ls1 rear brake swap. Have you done that video yet?
If you mount the calipers forward like they are on the Camaro, do you have to relocate the shock studs?
no
Can I still use my 15×8 weld wheels , with this rotor upgrade
Hey do you know rear disc break info for 88-98 C1500 chevy trucks
Can u use the factor camaro rotors??
what up bro... no need to apologize, 98-02 (v6 or v8)
Great video bro, I realize I'm late finding this video, but it was excellent....one question, when relocating bottom of shock ,do I move bottom in toward center of car?one picture look like driver side shock was moved out and pass was moved in?..wasn't sure if both should move in?
do you have the emergency brake cable brackets done and can you send some picture?
Great videos! I don’t know if you still monitor this video, do you have any how to for the E brake cables? I just got all 4 brakes from a 2000 Camaro yesterday and can’t wait to put them on my Monte Carlo. I got a pair of gmc jimmy e brake cables as they cross over to the drivers side like my car. The Camaro e brake cables run up the center driveshaft tunnel as it’s e brake is on the transmission hump.
will 15 inch wheels fit
looked like the rotors you used were too big for the studs. do I have to change out the studs to a bigger size? I want to keep my stock wheels.
you need extended studs for the swap... dep on your axles knurl size, will let you know which studs to get... i use arp, because they are inexpensive as a set... in one of my other vids, where i show parts ive sold, in a kit style, you will see the studs and part numbers and i explain the difference... also in the actual thread on gbodyforum, i explain the difference and there are pics and more detailed info on that... sometime soon, i will make a new video and explain that... though i did in this series, but i wont watch the whole thing to find out...lol
What year camaro again sorry
What size hardware did you end up using for the shock relocation brackets?....thats my last task...gonna get some angle iron cut and the holes drilled out
So can I try my 87 442 olds rallies on a 98-02 camaro/firebird/ trans am if they fit, that means they will work after the conversation correct
I have a used 2002 Camaro posi i want to put in a 7.5 my ? Is if I go to the junkyard and get some 7.6 28 spline axle out of a blazer will they fit in my 7.5 rear I know the posi Is 28 spline but will it all fit together?
Have you done a video about the ebrake attachment? Do you have pictures of ebrake set up?
Awsome videos BTW!
dont know what happened to my response to you, but thanks for watching...
@gtsdesigns did you do any brake booster mods
do you have any brake kits for sale
thanks for watchin bro...
Do you pull c5 brakes& brackets
Don't you have to use a brake proportioning valve?? And did you ever do the e-brake video?
Good video bro , join gbody connections on Facebook if you ain't a member already.
what factory rotors can I use?
for the rear (this swap), the camaro rotors 98-02
14" wheels will not fit... your welcome, thanks for watching... i will answer as many questions as I can and if i dont know the answer, will help you research it...
