Before you buy: CRYE AVS ; GSK Pro Tip #3

- BLUF: Unless you are six foot three and over 200 lbs, a small harness will more likely than not be the right size for you.
Despite making it's way to it's 9th year anniversary, the CRYE AVS has been making a comeback for the last few years... Perhaps the most perplexing aspect of the AVS is it's harness sizing. Much like the structural cummerbund of the SPC, the harness also tends to run rather large.

Keep the videos coming. Looking forward to the 20 pull-ups in your plate carrier video. Can’t be afraid to use foam plates though. Semper Fidelis.
Thank you so much for this video, you just helped me out a lot and saved me money.
Great video great energy, keep doing what your doing and love that you are using a GBBR as well!
Awesome video definitely found what was missing from the other videos
I wish to have one of these.
Edit: I love the standard harness, the other harnesses that they offer for the AVS looks uncomfortable, I wouldn't even buy them just to upgrade if I own one.
Just happened across this vid & have to say - Nail On Head sir!! The small harness should be considered size Medium & so forth in most cases.
Wish I watched this before I bought
I juz ordered and thought this exact thought what if that medium runs Big. I should of went with Small
thanks for the video. two questions: 1. is the medium cover suitable for a small belt? 2. what kind of backpack is on the back cover?
so it runs big? just ordered the medium....should probably call monday and have them switch that
lol im 6foot 205 LBS and the Medium harness is still big on me. im not fat tho. idk where crye pulled this sizing from
How much shorter are the shoulder straps on the small harness?
Generally, you gain or lose one column of webbing on each side per size; so about 3 inches or so. Ultimately my Medium had the arms overlapping in front under the plate, and going one size smaller left me with a lot more room to work with.
I have a 45" chest, 34" waist, and I'm 5'5". Being vertically challenged, I want to utilize the benefits of the AVS carrier(optimal weight distribution), but don't want it to be too big in the chest or too long to obstruct draw stroke or interacting with my belt. I called Crye and got some lady advising me to go off the chart. She was friendly but didn't seem to know too much on advice or experience. Debating on getting the medium to be able to use AVS carrier with and without a jacket also. It sucks not being able to see these different sizes side by side...
Yeah the gals at crye kinda suck
Nice shirt
Im about 70' and 235 lbs 38 waist - still go with the small harness and LG plate bags? And side pouches are those? Crye? Are they able to hold 6x6 plates? Great review DD
I'm about the same at 73" 225lbs and a 45" chest which would put me at almost an xl according to their website. But it seems like medium might be it.
@@7SixTwo Roger that - I was looking into getting the MD harness and LG plate bags, worst case ill send it back and wait for the small
I think 38 waist is around where I'd start considering moving from the small harness to the medium one. That's closer to my buddy's body style and he was able to wear the medium harness. As for the plate bags, they will be sized to whatever plates you own.
The GP pouches are from Crye and are not made for side plates; although they do make side plate pouches.
I am 170cm tall and weigh 55kg. How do you think I should wear the AVS harness?
I definitely think the small would be your best bet.
@@TheGoodSirKnight Thank you!
I’m 72” 270lbs with a 38sized waist what size Ava harness would you recommend? I’m definitely more of the big chest, big arm body type guy. I use XL SAPI plates in my XL JPC 1.0 but looking at getting the avs for more load.
I think the medium definitely should still fit with room to spare. I sadly don't have any experience with the harness in a Large, but I'd imagine one would need to be getting over 42 inch waist before needing to consider one of those.
Is it possible to have a medium harness with large plate bags?
Absolutely. The plate bag is sized to the plates, and the harness is sized to the person. Any combination should work.
12:12 A baby I was holding at church did that to me
What is your chest size? I'm 5'9", 194lbs, with 33" waist and 44" chest. I had planned on getting a medium, but now i'm not too sure...
The sizing on their website would say your a large. it's done by chest size.
@@williammcdonald519 Yea, but what @TheGoodSirKnight is saying in this video is that the crye sizing can't be trusted.
Yeah man, I'm just about the same height at a 43" chest and the small is the best fit. A medium would probably still be way too big. I think a small is gonna be the way to go.
@@TheGoodSirKnight cool, thanks
Is the AVS worth the price?
It's certainly saved me enough back pain to give it a solid Yes.
How are the plate bags? Would 10x12 plates mean a large bag?
The plate bags have a little stretch to them, so 10x12 should fit really well in a large plate bag.
How well would 1 inch thick plates fit in it?
They’ll fit they have stretch between the sewing
Does the cobra buckle come with the AVS, or was that an aftermarket attachment?
Aftermarket by A and A tactical.
@@TheGoodSirKnight Thank you!
Im 172cm and 75kg which one i should get m or s harness?
Def a small.
@@TheGoodSirKnightthank you so much! Really nice content u post helps alot!
