This is effectively the experience we all wish we could have with our favorite cobblers! Just wish there was a trade school nearby so I could learn this wonderful craft too.
The holes are to prevent “sink” That’s a term used in the molding industry. Sink happens in thick sections of material as the material cools it shrinks and leaves a depression in the finished material. And that can be unsightly.
15:20 You can install a big air duct right in front of the bench where you use the glue and hook it up to a big duct fan that blows the air out of the building. You also can get away with a smaller one if you do the work more closely in front of it. Maybe one of these aluminum ones hanging from the ceiling. Those can be bent to the right place. You also need to let the air in somewhere. For this you can just open a window. I guess a fume hood like in a chem lab would be overkill.
I actually remember when we had several cobblers in our side of town that re-soled our shoes as a kid. It was a 10-minute process that had normally double your shoe life, at least till you were ready for the next size up.
It's nice to you get out to Outback once and a while....It's good to other parts of the country other then Brooklyn....I really enjoy both channels....
I think the general consensus is that Nick was very much the "kid being shown how to do grown-up things by his dad" in this video and it was heartwarming
Nick starts out calling him “frustratingly handsome”. Sounds like Heath might not have liked some of the off camera attention he was getting. Us southern boys ain’t used to some of that big city stuff. 🤣🤣🤣
Fascinating, got my first paid og Red Wings yesterday for Christmas :D I sized down, they're hard to get on, but once on they fit, although a little narrow but I have a feeling once brokenb in they'll fit perfectly.
Think of all the sweet, comfortable miles you will get from a good pair of boots, already well worn in. Function like new, but comfort of old. Yes, the red thread was definitely a pop of color and not a bad idea at all.

You know some moc toes have shanks (eg Grant Stone's, Thursday) bc people find they add stability and arch support, but you're right I've learned that they're not always put in moc toes
Love this. I'm a subscriber of Trenton and Heath and this came up on my suggested. Heath is a proper silver fox, as a lady of a certain age I think he's damned fine. Loved watching this as Heath is explaining things and answering questions as he's going which adds a different dimension to the craft. I think the other chap in the video needs to adopt the 'assisting surgeon' stance, it's really good for getting in and engaged, also makes you look like you know what's happening even if and when you don't ;-) .
I'm definitely getting mine resoled when they need it, thank you for this, it really does add a lot more life in the boots! I also love that colour leather... Future purchase... I'm becoming totally obsessed with denim and leather XD
Nice video Nick. Your boots are looking way better then before after resole. And specially the red stitching on welt pops. I reckon if you put red laces on these boots that will take them to the next level. Cheers! Love from Australia
Watching these guys and Dan at Tring, I have decided to start buying nice leather boots. I have always kept it cheap because I thought cobblers were a dead breed. These guys however, these guys are good!
I always wondered if cobblers match the original stitch holes in the welt, otherwise the GY welt would have a limited lifespan. Interesting that they can dial in the spacing to match. I would have put lug soles on, but that’s so personal. I think these look way better than new. What a great pair of boots! Cool video, thanks guys!
I have those exact charcoal rough n tuff Moc Toes ... super premium leather that was a nightmare to break-in ... but now they fit like gloves. Will be sending most (if not all) my resoles to Potter and Sons.
You need to heat both parts in the same time, for instance under '' flah oven'', but also with the heater sitting on the bench, to free your both handsp
The layers of contact cement plus glue mixed with cork on a resole prove that it doesn't matter if your soles are rubber or leather, neither are going to breathe.
Hey Nick, so since Trenton replaced the cork filling did you have to break in the boots for a second time? What was it like? EDIT: seems like it's already addressed in the video 😛 just need to watch a bit more

Pretty much!

This is very true, I read your comment out loud to my buddy and we laughed
Heath really seemed like he wasnt having Nicks shit in this video. Everyone has off days. I love both channels.
Haha he's just more taciturn than Trent
I noticed the same. Was he having an off day? Maybe he had some shit to do that he had on his mind.
When Heath talks he is purposeful with his words.
The other guy talks so much, and quickly but isn’t saying anything truly meaningful or additive.

I was secretly hoping for a Ghost moment where Heath would guide your hands through the movement. Haha. Loving these collabs!
that's so funny. if only i could get the music rights
The hot cork segment is definitely the highlight of the video. It shows my one complaint about Red Wing Heritage Moc Toe Boots, no shank.
Great video!! Love the in depth! They do amazing work and really are meticulous about their craft!
Yeah they truly love the work, really inspiring guys
Because of the wedge sole it doesn’t need a shank. Where the iron Rangers because of the heal need the shank.

Yeah grey and red go great together!
Just started watching your channel and this video is so satisfying after watching the milage on those mocs . Great content

I like your choice of threads. Yes, the red really pops and let's face it, few if any will notice it. If you like it, go for it.

To answer the question "why are there holes in the vibram christy"... its to help relieve any air bubbles when you glue it to the mid sole.
What an awesome experience Nick! Consider me jealous lol.

Trent and Heath are guys that I want to hang with lol. It’d be awesome to have this opportunity to work on a pair of shoes, and see the process.
Kork is a filling, probably the best, between insole and intermediate sole,
Best is to use natural cork, and use natural glue, as wheat glue or rubber dissolution
You guys should offer a fan this opportunity... This is cool! @TrentonandHeath
Those guys are royalty when it comes to resoleing boots! 😁👌🏽
Very nice boot video, thank you both.

our local cobbler retired and I can't find another one within area without 2hr drive away
The layers of contact cement plus glue mixed with cork on a resole prove that it doesn't matter if your soles are rubber or leather, neither are going to breathe.
Exactly 🤣. And your uppers won't breather because of the Thermo plastic toe/heel puff and nylon reinforcements
@@jensrb50 Your uppers might breathe because of that big hole in the boot where you put your foot :-) . As long as you don't lace it really tightly

Wedge soles do not need a shank. A shank is there to keep a defined heel from collapsing.
unless you climb rungs.... or occasionally use a shovel.... or
@@oneformula Why wear a flat wedge sole if you are climbing rungs and on the shovel? A defined heel seems like it would be more useful for both.
