I have a question concerning the mentioned here and in another video 48hour window where IT is safe to insert an IUD after delivery. Why is IT safe then and not after that? Could you mąkę a video a out it? You mentioned that it is a different conversation and I would be interested as to why?
Immediate post partum IUD insertion is a “different conversation” because there are many different physiologic processes and anatomic changes right after delivery (compared to 6-8 weeks) and do there are unique risks and considerations. I plan to do a future video on this topic but right now am focussing on my “Fast Fact” 1 minute video series for Instagram (and RUclips)- this would definitely require a more in depth video. In the meantime, if you have questions on this subject, I’d recommend that you discuss this further with your Obstetrician/Gynecologist. -Dr. Dervaitis

Hello Dr. is the Nexplanon safe while breastfeeding? I just got mine inserted. Felt so comfortable before getting it, now that I have it I’m a little concerned about how it works and may affect breastfeeding.

How is it going for you now? I got mine a week ago and my supply went from great to almost nonexistent I don’t see what else could have caused that drop
@@cairasnyder7438 ok here to give you a bit of hope after almost 10 days of only getting a few drops of milk after having the nexplanon inserted I did 3 days of power pumping (tried the best I can and didn’t do it exactly how it’s supposed to be done) and ate oatmeal 2x a day and got my supply back better than ever
Not sure if I would’ve came back alone without any efforts after my body gets used to the hormones but I’m pretty sure the nexplanon caused the initial drop
The patch is similar to the combined oral birth control pill in that it contains estrogen (and so it could decrease breast milk supply- so it is NOT recommended for those who are breastfeeding). -Dr. Dervaitis

The estrogen in the Nuvaring could decrease breast milk production, so it is generally not advisable.
