Simply put, for « basically » mirroring the TCL, and the existence of S1, plus the I don’t know how many number of airport buses there are, it’d be cheaper to go with either bus and / or conventional metro service. The most expensive airport service is around $80 HKD and that’s with the « overnight surcharge » of those NA routes. Even where I reside in Hong Kong for the shortest term that I’m there with family, it’s E37 and the new TMCLK tunnel that’s the proper way. How many people ride the train from central Hong Kong directly to the airport anyway?
S1 is $4.9 HKD flat. And going to Tung Chung from Hong Kong station is what… $46HKD? That’s half the price. No wonder why no one takes the AE. It’s literally overpriced. But I have to try it once when I return in the summer.
Every time we were in Hong Kong we would always take the AEL from Central since we are trying to maximize our last day. It's not the cheapest but it's our best option.
Time is money. TCL + S1 bus takes over 1hr. AEL is only 26 mins, and you can check in in the city, and have plenty of spaces to put your luggage. Of course, it's not for everyone. People in the north west HK (like myself) will take Airport buses as it is faster and much cheaper.
@@SFsRailDepot i can see how it's both a scam and a luxury at the same time. you have to be the perfect customer for the AEL to work on your favor. You have to live in either the island, or Kowloon, or Tsing Yi max, and you must be a Cathay Pacifc customer for the check in system to work for you (its only CX after the pandemic). You then have to take advantage of the check in system at the central stations. Only when you do all of the above is AEL worth it. The other method is using the morning express service and is really for business people who can use the 14 minutes to catch on some work and dont mind paying double the price for a better seat and comfort and more space.

nice
Is the train made in the UK? Why? Is its maximum speed 130km/h?
The line is designed for running up 135km/h, it has nothing to do with the origin of the train.
This train is made from Spain and Germany.
