    Human as a species is intelligent. Intelligence is a very basic characteristic of every human. We often confuse intelligence with aptitude, skills, knowledge and expertise. All adult humans are equally intelligent. But aptitude, skills, knowledge, critical thinking, expertise and creativity may vary.

      I was thinking the same thing. Humans are objectively more intelligent than a rock. However, I do take Vimoh's point. Among humans, there is no universal parameter to judge or rate intelligence.

      Can you tell what you are going to think next day at 9:45 pm.
      Are we thinking or the thoughts are coming to us where is the Thinker located in body or brain.
      Subjectivity of the consciousness is the only thing which is constant in our experience which is not the state of mind.

    It's interesting that you reference Isaac Asimov to discuss 'intelligence' and 'character'. I say this because, now that I think about it, on the TV show "Foundation", which is a TV adaptation of his book by the same name, both the professor and the emperor are portrayed as more intelligent than most people. However, it's the other, relatively less intelligent characters in the story who tend to make the morally right decisions when faced with difficult situations. Even Hari Seldon, the professor, who establishes the Foundation in the interest of humanity, can't help but put himself before others.
    In any case, good topic of discussion. Much appreciated.

    • @prasoonjha1816
      @prasoonjha1816 5 дней назад +1

      Actually the TV show has nothing to do with the books except the names. For example, in the books there are only two Emperor Cleons and both live centuries apart and are from different dynasties. And the first Cleon who was a good but weak emperor got assassinated before the birth of Foundation. During the trial of Hari Seldon, the emperor was Klayus Chen (and not Cleon Entun as shown in the show).
      In the book, intelligence certainly plays a great role. It is always the intelligent characters like Salvor Hardin, Hober Mallow and Bayta Darell who are able to see what others around them are not able to and make the correct decisions. Asimov's protagonists are usually very intelligent people. In both Robot series and Foundation series (his two most famous works), problems are almost always solved using brain.
      Morality is perhaps the last thing Asimov was considering when he was writing Foundation. I felt that the way the Second Foundation solved the crisis in the last story of the Foundation trilogy was morally very wrong yet it worked. In fact one of the most famous quotes from the books is, "Never let your sense of morals prevent you from doing what is right."

      @@stevesmith4901 You should check on Asimov and Science Fiction subreddits how much Asimov's longtime readers hated this show. Not because they felt it is a bad show but because they feel cheated that they were promised an Asimov adaptation but instead got a completely different story with Asimov's characters' names scrapped on the show's characters.
      Edit: One guy on Science Fiction subreddit even accused the showrunner David Goyer of intentionally insulting Asimov. The video essayist channel "Just Write" who has been an Asimov fan since his adolescence made a 1 hour video stating his disappointments with the show. The video is literally titled, "Foundation: Crucifying a Masterwork".

    It was the only way to fit everything that I thought.
    Intelligence is a byproduct of a person's character and values which is influenced by the society's standard of treatment based on the family history, sex, facial attractiveness, and many more contributing factors coming from a personal bias of the person subjected to judging.

    "What is intelligence" and "What is the most valuable quality in a person" are two completely different questions. You started talking about the first question and then shifted to the second question.

    • @stevesmith4901
      @stevesmith4901 6 дней назад +1

      That's because intelligence is often regarded as the most valued trait or quality among people. Vimoh, I believe, took this as a given and argued against it by first analyzing intelligence and then presenting his own most valued quality, namely 'good character,' as an alternative to intelligence. That said, I understand where you're coming from because I'm like you in this respect. I also prefer speaker/authors to explicitly state what they're arguing for at the outset, rather than leaving it for the reader or listener to infer their intent. Unfortunately, however, this is how most people communicate. It's never straightforward.

    Thats a good point though, Code of conduct is indeed more important than intelligence.
    Additionally my thoughts are that intelligence is application of various forms of knowledge and social interactions very efficiently. Generally I perceive knowledge and intelligence independently. A highly knowledgeable person may not be very intelligent since its not merely how much you know but what you make of it and how do you apply it.
