George Hackenschmidt "The Russian Lion" was one of the greatest ever catch wrestlers and athletes period. Way more so than some names mentioned here. Definitely look him up and his records as well as his elite physique and strength long before steroids existed . Much stronger than 99.9 % of human beings today even who are using PEDs. Another greatest ever is Farmer Burns. He developed his neck strength to such a high level that he could hang by a rope from the neck without being injured while whistling a song. Imagine trying to get him in a choke hold. near impossible. And we are talking about having over 3,000 matches. and the it's the catch wrestling would often go on for 2 hours + they had the best conditioning beyond what guys have in modern times.
Not to mention, him and Frank Gotch pretty much creating pro wrestling as a major single standing sport.

Gene Labelle talks a lot about old school Catch Wresters and how it was pretty much MMA. Karl Gotch gave Gene the title “Sadistic Bastard”. In which he regards that as his greatest achievement.
Gene is like 10th deg red belt in Judo, 9th deg black belt and 9th deg black belt Kyokushin_Budokai trained with and taught Bruce Lee, 100s of shows and movies, Pro wrestling guru, trained Ronda Rousey and her mom in Judo, etc. the list is huge. Think about that. His greatest achievement was getting that recognition from Kotch.
Genes mom owned the Grand Olympic in LA and promoted boxing and wrestling.
I think once a week he was a trainer at Gokor Chivichyan gym (or did they share the gym?). They produced karo parisyan, Ronda as you mentioned plus others.
He had a mixed fight in the 60's and refed the worst mixed fight in history, Inoki vs Ali.
