I'm a nurse practitioner that recently got accepted to a post-bacc pre-med program, interviewed and applied for med school already through this program, and I'll be starting med school in 2019! I love watching your videos, as I get an idea of what I'll be going through, lol.
America, I just wanted to say that you are such an inspiration to me. Growing up, I always wanted to go to law school. I graduated from undergrad without pursuing that dream because I never though I could do it. I've spent the past 6 months or so watching your videos, learning from you, admiring your beautiful spirit and perseverance. I started studying for the LSAT yesterday. Thank you.
Great Video America! Glad to see we have some things in common one of those being our global health work in Nicaragua. One of the best experiences of my life! Thank you for sharing :)
omg america.. you worked so hard for getting into medical school.. I belong from Nepal and we can join medical school directly after high school.. and you only need to pass the medical entrance exam to get into.. and I did it and my parents paid for the school.. that's how I got into.. but now I know that people around work so hard for it.. you've always inspired me and literally want to be your follower now. P.S I'm in my second year
Hey America! I am currently in the process to apply to medical school. I love watching your videos! I graduated with a public health degree and just finished my second degree in nursing. This whole process is a bit scary but exciting at the same time....and I truly appreciate seeing your videos because you seem genuine! You motivate people like myself to be more confident and just give your dreams a try!
Your videos make me so happy...I'm an aspiring med student. 💕 And your sleeping habits give me hope too! 😂I'm always so worried my terrible sleeping habits will be the death of me but seeing you survive gives me so much hope x
JoyfishXO oh that's so exciting! Good luck! 💕 I'm doing my A-levels at the moment- so I'm not sure if I can call myself premed, but if everything goes to plan I'll be going to medical school next year when I finish my A-levels.
Hey America. I'm going to UT right now, just want to say that I LOVE your videos and your attitude towards medicine. Seeing you excited about what you do and what you study makes me feel excited for you! You have such a great perspective, and I really appreciate how open you are about your premed journey. It's really awesome to see someone who went to the same university kicking-ass in med school. You rock!
I am so thankful for this video. I made Dean's List with a 3.566 which I was a little disappointed with. But, I recently joined a pediatric volunteer club and 40 people showed up...and only 12 volunteer positions were open. I felt like volunteering at a hospital was hopeless and I would never be able to build up my resume. This video inspires me to keep looking for opportunities and to stop beating myself up so hard!
You are the first person I'm subscribed to! I love your videos, you always bring so much positivity into being a med student, it makes me love medicine even more! I am also a first year med student, but in my country we enroll in med school right after high school. I aspire to be like you someday :) Much love
Hey America! We met today at the Latino Medical Student Association meeting, I'm an MS1. I love all these videos. I found this funny because I also dropped Bio 1 my first semester, and I also switched my major to nutrition during sophomore year and wasn't super involved at first but I found my way and here we are lol! Thanks for making these videos, I can imagine how much time it takes and it's awesome that you are so positive and enthusiastic. See you around!
Arnela so I basically made a resume with all my activities (research / volunteering) and just kept it updated :) For my application to med school, I just got a transcript to see my GPA and classes. And i was actually employed in my research so I had activity hours logged !:) other than that, you can kinda guestimate if you forget to log volunteer hours. But it's definitely helpful to start a resume or excel sheet early on!:)
Hi, America! I found your channel a few days ago and ended up watching all of your videos! I'm not a med student, I'm actually about to start a BSN Nursing program, but I thought your videos were very inspiring. I hope you continue to do them because I want to keep following your journey through med school. 👍🏼👍🏼
Hi! I liked listening to your advice! Im going to go into my senior of undergrad bio. My gpa was not good freshman year so I'm deciding if I should do a masters program to boost my academic record. But hearing your extracurriculars gave me hope because I do all of those that I have passion for. Thanks for the vid!
Thank you for this video!! One of the best videos I've watched on getting into med school. I really hope I can apply all this info and hopefully will get in 2 years. You've def got my sub :)
I love your videos. This is the second I have watched today. I cant help but wonder how med school works in your country. In my country (I live in Africa, Botswana), you graduate from Form 5 (your 12th grade equivalent) to go to university. In uni, you undergo one of year of undergraduate study where you take all the four sciences (math included) as well as a basic computer and communication class. From there, after that one year, you get to apply for med school or engineering. Your acceptance is based solely on your interview marks and GPA. Our GPA is also out of a 5. What i dont understand with your med school procedure is why do you have to do 3/4 years of college before you can get into med school. Thats a lot of time!😂
This was so interesting, America! Thank you, you have really inspired me to do more outside of my curriculum at medical school! I study Medicine in Germany, and here we don't have much variety of extracurricular activities, but I'm sure I can find something if I only want to :)
hyyy plz tell me hw u get into med schl after high schl i really need to know i m from india here we have to pass NEET [exam like MCAT to get into med schl ] but wt u really did after high schl i mean when ur of my age 17.....plz help me with ur reply i truly want to became a doctor plz @alua k
I am not into med stuff, but you worked hard and also have a lot of luck. A failure in one course destroys your GPA and your chances of getting into med school. That Q feature from your university is good.
hi america .. i love u so much. .. u are amazing ❤ please can u do a video about how to be more confident ? i love u so much u are my inspiration ❤ ( i'm a med student from algeria )
oh my gosh i know this video is old, but i've been watching a lot of yours lately, and i didn't realize you graduated from UT wow small world (even though it's only my first year)
Can you make a video on study tips from your undergraduate years? And also, does your science GPA matter, or does your overall GPA (to medical schools)? And did you get into an M.D or a D.O program? (Sorry idk which medical school you got into) Thanks, America! I apologize for all these questions, you have just been so inspirational to me! I started watching your videos today. Btw, I will start college this fall at UT! Hook 'Em!!
I just got a rejection email from a club on campus to be a hospital volunteer. I broke down crying. I'll be a sophomore this upcoming year and the only things I've amounted to were: Dean's List both semesters, a job at Starbucks, and club participation .... getting into a hospital just seems so far fetched..
Hey, America! I signed up to go to Costa Rica for spring break and do volunteer work...it got canceled though. I was freaking out because I work at Starbucks part-time and I feel like other premed students are getting "ahead" of me......does it matter if I dont start research/volunteering until summer ?
l.c.g. Getting into a master’s program and doing well will increase your GPA and make it clear to med schools that you have the potential to handle the rigor of med school. There are also post-bacc programs that fulfill the same purpose, but don’t end with another degree. This will take time, but how bad do you want to be a doctor?
Lulu Abou-Jabal there's not really a minimum or max, I would just get super involved in something you love! The hours will add up naturally :) There's endless ways of developing your application, don't feel pressure to be like mine :) ❤️❤️
You don’t NEED research, but it’s nice to have especially if you want to go to a top school. You do need some kind of clinical experience whether it’s paid, volunteer, or shadowing and you should have some non clinical volunteering. IMO premed students should do something like scribing as their clinical experience. A lot of what you learn from scribing is a lot more valuable than what you learn from hospital volunteering.
I'm a nurse practitioner that recently got accepted to a post-bacc pre-med program, interviewed and applied for med school already through this program, and I'll be starting med school in 2019! I love watching your videos, as I get an idea of what I'll be going through, lol.
Heather Reynolds congratulations! how come you took that route and didn't just go straight to med school?
Heather Reynolds how did you get in?
how old are you?
hey heather! how's medical school treating you now?
america you are honestly my pre med goals,
3. 9 gpa is excellent and it showed that you are very intelligent

JoyfishXO I know I love her so much! She's so real and authentic 😊 are you premed?
I am! I'm actually working on med school applications today :) Are you working on them?
JoyfishXO oh that's so exciting! Good luck! 💕 I'm doing my A-levels at the moment- so I'm not sure if I can call myself premed, but if everything goes to plan I'll be going to medical school next year when I finish my A-levels.

It's so refreshing to see another nutrition major!!
It is great that you are giving good direction to younger people who are smart but don't have direction... Great Job Stephanie !!!

You're so pretty! I love your videos!! They inspire me to work hard just like you!
This was so motivational for me; although, the only difference is I want to go to dental school!
Good luck with your journey :)

What was the name of the program that you went on the trip to Nicaragua with?
Yesss fellow longhorn hook 'em!!! I'm a junior right now!
Can you make a video on study tips from your undergraduate years? And also, does your science GPA matter, or does your overall GPA (to medical schools)? And did you get into an M.D or a D.O program? Both matter so make sure to take care of both your science and overall GPA. I'm in an MD program :)
Thank you so much!
Here is how I got into med school:
I asked nicely
Can you do a video on mental health in undergrad or college in general? ♥ from Germany 🇩🇪
You've come a long way in your videos :P
I hate truck driving, its slot of physical work. And i want to go back to school
Hey, America! I signed up to go to Costa Rica for spring break and do volunteer work...it got canceled though. I was freaking out because I work at Starbucks part-time and I feel like other premed students are getting "ahead" of me......does it matter if I dont start research/volunteering until summer ?
Why'd you go to ut Austin instead of utsa? The reason I'm asking is because I plan on moving there. How often do they except out of state students?
Tracy Ragland UT Austin is much more vigorous on acceptance compared to UTSA .... I think UT only accepts top 5-10% of HS class
I wanna go to UT so bad!! I already visited such a nice school and city
When you went on your global health trip, what organization did you go with?
global medical training at UT Austin :)
You're so inspirational!!!
Hi,
I was wondering if UT had a great pre-med program? Im deciding between TCU and UT
I'm an Austinite too! Can you say where you go to medical school? Or at least where you got accepted and chose not to go?
In what departments did you volunteer at St. David's? I'm currently in the PACU
America what song is playing at @0:07 ?
Any tips for someone realizing slightly late that they're interested in medical school but definitely doesn't have the grades for it?
l.c.g. Getting into a master’s program and doing well will increase your GPA and make it clear to med schools that you have the potential to handle the rigor of med school. There are also post-bacc programs that fulfill the same purpose, but don’t end with another degree. This will take time, but how bad do you want to be a doctor?
You have so much volunteering, makes me fear if I'm doing enough. How much is enough? PS love your videos so much!!!
Lulu Abou-Jabal there's not really a minimum or max, I would just get super involved in something you love! The hours will add up naturally :) There's endless ways of developing your application, don't feel pressure to be like mine :) ❤️❤️
I am in middle school (6th grade) and I'm pretty sure like %100 sure I wanna go to med school and %50 of that is because of you thank sm america
Hi, so were you in a sorority?
Did you take a GAP year before medical school?
LOVE you America!! This was motivational:) How were you able to manage your time with doing extracurricular activities and maintain a 3.9 GPA? THX:)))
