I think of all the bands I ever saw live I've seen these guys more than any other, like over 100 times. I first saw them in like 1987 and loved them then just saw them at bars for the next few years. I was surprised they didn't get a big contract. I broke up with my girlfriend and she ended up dating and living with their guitar player. No animosity, he's a good dude. We're still friends.
Saw Nero"s Rome in Portland during the early 90's....gotta say I was bummed when they didn't hit it big. Band was tight and the lead singer really was unbelievable. Loved this band...played the cassette to death....still got it...hahah
IDK why they didn't make it. Even bands like Tad, anything with Shawn Smith, My Sisters Machine, Gruntruck, i don't understand. I even wonder if The Gits Mia Zapata didn't die would they have even made it? So weird back then that mainstream music only picked certain bands (pretty looking singers) to eventually be the big 4 or 5 ha idk fuck. Love Nero's Rome
Yeah still got it in the shop somewhere in a pile of cassetes. It was Labor if I remember right. Keep hangin onto it for sentimental reasons....still has a relevant sound...dig it.
All this album is on the top of my underground gems. Fuck, I felt in love instantly with Neros Rome when I heard We Play Girlfriends for the first time. It was love at first sight. This guys should have been bigger than a lot of shitty grunge bands from the 90s. I have Togetherly in cd, and Labor in cassette. James gave me one copy at the beggining of the year. Such a sweet dude.

These guys just ranomly popped into my head. Saw them in the 90's... I want to say opening for The Dandy Warhols at The Laluna in Portland... maybe around 1997 or 1998. Don't remember much about them except that they had a pretty kickass bass player.
Stuart Frichman was the bass player. Yes, great bass player. He played in a band with my roommate in high school. Coincidentally Courtney Taylor of the Dandy Warhols was the drummer for that band.

I had a band that played a show with these guys in Seattle around 1993. I thought they were going to hit it big.

Painted Tongues. We played with them at The Weathered Wall on 5th Ave. in Seattle. That place is long gone now.
